We have an Ikea mat velcro'd to top of washing machine - this works really well we always use it and DD keeps still on there but fidgets loads if need to use floor. A big plus is is right next to laundry sink.

we had one, but the first few weeks we didn't use it. It ended up hurting my back. Used it for a long time then! The tray underneath though just was a place to put useless stuff.
This time round I think we're only getting the change mat, and using one end of the kitchen table (obviously, the end we don't use.) :)
