city select, opinions please!

The rain cover issue........

Officially each seat needs a rain cover and bj make them, but they fit snug around the fram iykwim sooooooo you need a rain cover for the basket if you want to protect that which bj also make.

I have had my two rain covers on order for over 6 months now from the us ( was ordered when I originally ordered ) but I now plan on getting them here and getting refund.

The other option is SACHAS (have a search) do a rain cover that fits one seat or both specifically for the bjcs. I have the uncover from them as bj don't do or didn't when I ordered a suncover for the bjcs.

After a quick look the other day the ameythst colour has been released where I got mine from....looks nice!!!! The stroller(1 seat) for $499 (American $.... but we are more than $ for $ ) so that's a really good price.

Also the spare seat covers are available now.....tempted..... Yes :)

Subsribing ladies as my SIL is looking for a pram & car seat/capsule.

I'm a bit confused so can someone clarify? We've shopped around and loved the City Select (I have the city elite, love it, but I fell in love with the select :rolleyes:). Reading the posts I might tell her not to get the bassinete just yet, but does a baby capsule slip into it????? What kind of capsule? She's looking for a car seat now and can't decide which one. I have the safe and sound meridian which is OK for my 11 month old DS but I'm not too happy about the reclining of it (DS used to have quite a few chucks when he was smaller, now seems happier in it). It would suit her to get a capsule to click into the pram and into the car.

The safe n sound unity, the maxi cosi mico and another one (which I can't think of right now) all fit into the city select with the special adaptors. I've read the maxi cosi is the best fit and easiest to click in.

ETA the third is the peg perego viaggio capsule.

I just gave one a test run at a baby shop with DD in the seat attached at the very front - was trying to envisage it with a capsule. It handled pretty well and although it felt a bit long (I think I'm just used to my Elite), I could see it being an excellent purchase if you have a toddler and newborn.

With regards to the bassinet, I bought one for our Elite and used it for 9 weeks. I wish I'd just bought a capsule instead. DD didn't really like it and it was a pain to wake her to take her out of her car seat. A capsule would have been so much easier! The bassinet on the Select does seem to make it very long IMO too.

I got the sales assistant to measure the base for me too and I was surprised to find it's 3cm narrower than my Elite! I have few problems navigating my pram but a narrower base is a bonus. The seats a really spacious too, like the Elite (DD, 18 months this week, had loads of room). Another nice surprise.

It's far too long in front for my preference with a seat and a capsule, but that's just me.

In regards to the capsule, the Safe n Sound Unity looked like a major pain in the bottom to get on and off. Too many straps and fiddling. By comparison, the Maxi Cosi Mico was a piece of cake. Just clicked on and off. However the Maxi Cosi Mico is probably the most expensive capsule on the market so you might want to look at hiring it (that's what I'm doing!). You'll have to buy the adaptors for them but the basinette would have been an extra expense regardless.

Thanks ezymay, might go with my SIL this week and have a lookie at the capsules and I'll show her the bassinete as well, was hoping to give her mine but it doesn't fit the select model :(

Taurean, I agree with the bassinete for the elite. I only used mine for about 10 weeks and DS got really hot some days in it as it's quite high and it has no ventilation.

I've been using my BJCS for months now and it's a great pram to push, steer, fold etc.

Will be getting out my 2nd seat and safe and sound unity to have a play this week as bubs isn't far off now
And want to be a dab hand at using it (and dh) when he arrives.

I'll be using with a 12month old and newborn.

Will update when I've had a play :)

I have the BJ City Elite and Safe N Sound Unity - the adapter piece that you need for the BJ to snap the SNS capsule in works, but it's not great. Whoever said above that it is designed for the MaxiCosi is correct - and then they kind of did a "good enough" for the safe N sound, and it is good enough but it's not great. In fact, I had to return to Baby Bunting to ask them how to use it as it didn't seem right...and I didn't have it correct. The correct way is OK - baby is safe but it's not a "snap" to use.
I don't know the ins and outs of the other BJ prams, but I didn't know it had a bassinette option, and we just purchased the Valco thing that fits in the seat. I wish I had known abou tthe bassinette because it would have allowed me to see DS while in it as it faces the handlebar whereas the Valco thing is hidden by the big BJ hood - but I'm not buying yet another BJ add on. To be honest, had I known how much I would spend on add ons, I would have looked closer at the Bugaboo and other top end prams which I think come with all the accessories - I have a feeling the price difference would be small given what I've spent on the add ons.

My 3 year old was our testing boy and he is on the larger end of the scale in both weight and height and he had plenty of room... looked very comfy compared to most other prams he has been in. :) One day he will walk lol.

We picked up our City Select in Onyx today!!! :dance: Stoked with it.... we have wanted it for ages... So much room for both kids esp as they get bigger and longer legs on them.... lots of basket space underneath and I find it easy to fold down and up. Yeah it's heavy but all double prams are! We'll have a newborn and DD who will be 2yrs 3mths and only 12kgs.
Lady at the store said you can put newborns in it too and it's safe just recommended using head padding inserts and like lambskins etc to support them a bit and reclining their seat back more than the toddler seat would be reclined. ITMS.

I don't think it's very long, compared to some of those double prams where the seats are fixed and can't be moved, some of those prams are SUPER long!! LOL

Shoot, my SIL is exchanging here city select. She keeps comparing it to my city elite and says my pram is heaps bigger (by that she means the seat). She is now exchanging it for the elite. She said that when my DS went into it for trial, he looked all squashed up and his feet kept hitting the metal bar at the bottom and the bit where the baby sits is too soft. Oh well, I told her to get what she really wants. I think it was me who persuaded her to buy it..:redface:

She's also concerned that the seat/under the bum, is too soft. I asked her if she didn't notice this in the shop and she said it wasn't until she put my 11 kg DS in it that she saw how is sags. I think she likes the length of the elite.

Well the Elite is a fab pram ;)

They have fixed the sagging issue (tho i havent noticed this :) ) in the 2011 model with a stronger longer seat. I would choose the select over the elite so you can have bubs face you in the select. There have been lots of studies about how beneficial this is.
I'm excited I found the car seat adaptors cheap on gumtree and I'm getting a unity capsule cheap too!! Would love the maxi Cosy mico but it's too exxy new :(

Hmm, they must be doing a few improvements to the BJ range! When I bought my elite in early 2010 or late 2009 (can't remember!), I've only noticed later how the back of the pram/seat was quite saggy compared to other prams. Then in my gymbaroo class last week I made a comment to a lady which had the city elite too and asked her if she liked her pram and she said she loved it, and then I asked her if she thought the back of the seat was too soft. Well she checked hers and it was hard!! She said she bought her pram this year and the model was newer. So they have improved the back.

Now for the select model ezymay, are you saying that my SIL was sold an older model possibly? The guy did drop the price considerably. I think the model SIL has, has definitely got a saggy/soft seat, so if you're saying the the current model has a longer/harder seat, BJ must have improved it too.

PS There is a compartment in the back of the elite where you could slide something hard to make the back harder. What would you ladies recommend to put in there? Cardboard will be too soft I think. I had a peek in the back of the select and they have put a very thin piece of plastic.......

If you google model improvements im sure t will bring up the differences. A stronger backboard has been put in. I dont think 2011 models are in oz yet tho and I am not sure if there was a difference btwn 2009/2010. I just know about 2011 cause I want the purple :) and asked about replacement covers in that colour but was told they wouldn't fit 2010 seats.

Thanks ezymay, I looked at the BJ US website and they actually sell the plastic backboards for $8 but they don't ship overseas!! That's exactly what I need. Bummer!

Baby Jogger Australia are very active in responding to questions in their facebook page. Once the responded to mine in about 10 seconds!

I'd head over there and ask them about the back inserts for older models. I think they are available free from some shops.

With the city select, can you swap where the baby and the toddler go, or do they have to go in a particular position?

The bassinette can only go in the lower position when the toddler seat is being used. Once both toddler seats are in use, you can put the baby in whatever position you like.

Ive got the maxi cosi capsule that snaps straight on the adapters (properly might i add! After trying the SnS Unity that does not attach properly imo) and that can go any place with the seat unit.

I know this is a semi old thread but I put a Select on layby today :happydance: I LOVE it and cannot WAIT to bring it home! Even my Moo loved it, well he must've as he had a tantrum when I made him get out :lol:

I don't need it til December but hoping I'll get to bring it home sooner :D I got the two seats plus capsule too. DH loved how he's not kicking the tyres when he pushes it!

We love ours! Its a lot roomier than the others for our tall toddler! It was just like Christmas opening it up and assembling it :D

Still in love with mine nearly a year on.........just cant wait to get a second seat :p

My mum decided she wanted to help with the pram so looks like we'll be bringing it home earlier than anticipated! Has anyone got the nappy bag that goes with it?
