    Monitors

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to get everyone's opinions on baby monitors. There are sooo many its hard to figure out what one to get

I was thinking of getting one with video, so I could see if the bub was stirring. Does anyone know if these are any good, or overrated?

Tubbles - I have an Angelcare one at home (In Perth) which I plan on picking up and bringing back here for when bubs is born. It's not got video (which I think is a bit much personally) but it has the movement sensor thing for under the cot mattress to give you peace of mind. I got mine off ebay for a bargain They are quite expensive, but I think worth it.

We too have the angelcare sound and movement monitor. At night I don't use sound anymore but always use the movement. Certainly worth the peace of mind, especially when DD had a cold and her breathing was a bit harder. I don't think there is a need for video, but if it is what will work for you, go for it!

    Good luck

we also have the Angelcare sound and movement monitor here too, recommend it highly, it doesnt have video but has the sensor pad things and room tempreture etc, like the others have mentioned. i'm even thinking about getting a second one for bub number 2. totally worth the money.

Does anyone know if that monitor is on special at Target? I think I remember reading a post somewhere, where someone picked it up from Target on special. I have found it online for 289 with the two monitors, but if I can pick it up for a similar price from Target and actually walk away with it in my hand, that would be better!

i'm pretty sure i saw the angelcare one at target on special.. we just bought the lcd screen one though from target. My DH just HAD to have it. We have been given nearly all our baby stuff second hand and he really really is into gadgets. I loved the idea of the angel care one but he just could not go past the lcd screen he got so excited like a 5 year old...

I'm not getting a monitor (we have a small place) however I have a question, out of curiosity...

Re. the movement sensors, do they send an alarm if there is NO movement, or if the baby stirs? I have heard of a few mothers practically throwing them out the window in frustration, and I'm not sure what they are supposed to do?

We bought a monitor - nothing fancy though - & it has hardly been used. It worked when I was pregnant then after DS was born we got nothing but static. We have a small place & DSs room is right next to ours. I don't have a problem hearing him. He was also quite strong at birth - he was able to lift his head in the hospital - so we weren't too concerned about sids or anything. I thought the video & sensors were a bit of overkill personally, but maybe worth it if you have a premmie or sick bub. That's just my opinion though.

It sounds an alarm if there is no movement for a certain time (it is very sensitive and picks up breathing movements). There is also an awful 'click' noise that it sends off to hear that baby is moving, but you don't have to have that switched on. It drove me BALMY too!

I wasn't able to find the angel care monitor at Target (but I didn't look that hard either). I ended up getting it from Twinkel Tots in Northcote Melbourne (think that what it's called) for $240 saved about $40 off the advertised price on-line. They are pretty good there on giving discounts if you ask or buy a few things at once.

    Hope that helps Melbourne Mum's!!
