What Does Everyone Think About Baby Wipes??

I use Pigeon wipes. So far we've had no nappy rash issues (touch wood) despite having a bub who gets eczema. We also use disposable nappies & the combination works very well for us.

I tried the cotton wool & water thing at hossy & didn't like it. I would just get covered in poo if I did that these days.

Pigeon wipes are not sold in many places but they are available at Baby Bunting for around $10 for a 3 pack of 80 & some independent grocery stores & chemists sell them. They last me ages. I have tried others but believe that this brand is better than the others.

Krystie, I put some water in a tupperware container with my wipes, and put fresh ones in every day (I have about 5 in there at the beginning of the day) but for going out I take them dry, and use a foamy solution from one of the online nappy retailers. I have 1 folded in each nappy and 1 or 2 spare, so I know I have enough.

I only use J & J unscented ones. I dislike Huggies ones. They're so thick I find it hard to get into the tiny little gaps and creases. Would be even harder with a boy.The Wollworths brand ones aren't too bad either.

I used to use Huggies when mine were little and I would rip them in half, last double the time and save double the money. Easier to wipe too. J&J are the worst brand for nasties in their products.

Kelly, that sounds right..... trust me to choose the worst product on the market :-(
Might have to investigate some better alternatives.
Oh, I just remembered, I used and liked the Curash ones for a while when DD had a really nasty nappy rash. It was the only rash she ever had, but took forever to clear up. And that's although I was using cloth nappies and only water and cloth wipes at the time. I then used sposies for a while to keep her dry (still used cloth wipes, though) and a friend's chemist's miracle cream and it finally went away. But I think she was teething something shocking at the time, too and it would have most likely cleared up even if I had continued with cloth nappies.

They just have loads of money and effective marketing and for some reason land themselves in many maternity hospitals who should be more proactive about this stuff, but money talks.... they do loads of branding and own one of the big parenting sites too. Clever these people with money ;)

No to baby wipes. I used baby wipes up to when DD was 4 weeks. But within 4 weeks old she started having nappy rash. I stopped using it and cleaned her with water at all times, her nappy rash went away. I started using the wipes again, within a couple of days, nappy rash. After that, I have stayed away from baby wipes unless we are going out. I don't think its fair. Water is better. ;)

Oh, I will never use wipes again unless for emergency cases, for example, when away from home. Sometimes I still prefer to use water to clean her even if we go out.

Course they are bad, full of chemicals :) I know people who can only use water and cloth on their babies because it does irritate their poor little bums.

check out the chemicals in most of them - i bet you wouldnt wipe your own butt with them once you know, let alone a babies!

cloth wipes and water here - too easy, and when we go out I use seventh generation wipes (none of the nasty chemicals :D)

miessence make grat baby products too - I LOVE the baby barrier balm

and you dont need baby shampoo etc for quite some time, keep it simple, water is all they really need for the first year or so, unless you want to screw with their natural oils ;)

Havent read all the post so i am sorry if i am repeating.

i make my own soothing and calming solution with calandular flower and camomile tea... i mmake a batch, add some cold water and use that on cloth wipes...
the cloth wipes, i just bought a metre of fleece from spotlight, cut up lenghts for nappy liners so that i reuse them and then squares for bum wipes, i just check them in the wash and all done.

We have only once had nappy rash and that was when we were away camping and we used shop bought wipes and she had no nappy free time and not very many baths (it was freezing)
As soon as we were home, i switched back and also bathed her in this tea mixture too and it was gone really quickly

ETA - when going out i prewet the wipes so that they are soggy then pop them in a plastic bag... or you could use a tupperware (or similar) container or even stuff some in once of those commercial baby wipe containers...

Actually, now that you mentin it, I didn't use any babywash or shampoo for a long time. Every now and then I used colloidal oatmeal when she had a rash or such, but that wasn't really necessary either.

I buy Huggies ones on special and love them. Have tried others and found them quite thin so I used more.

Huggies are great and thick. I've NEVER had a problem with nappy rash at all with my DD! She has never had nappy rash!

there are nature I think that their name baby wipes available in most supermarkets - they also do the nappies, i havent really checked them out, but iu have a friend that uses them and she says that they were the best option for her as she didnt want to do cloth...

We use the nature babycare ( i think thats what it called) they are supposedly better for the environment. We have never had a problem with them, the unscented ones are good too! You just get them from the supermarket!

Aromababy do wipes but they are very expensive. I would go Nature Babycare as your cheapest option, they are about the same price as J&J etc and you can just grab them at the supermarket. You can buy other disposable wipes online for about $7-$8 per packet, one brand is Seventh Generation, there is another couple of options out there, the brand names escape me at the moment, organic something-or-other. Google!

well i dont really have a problem with baby wipes as everyone i know uses them and have never had an issue i bought unscented ones off the internet for really cheap to save money will have to see how they are for mine but i'll also be using disposable nappies 2

Well I can say that sposie wipes DO give my boy nappy rash, if used too often. We only use them occasionally as we use cloth nappies, and so it's easier (and cheaper) to also use cloth wipes. I just use a face washer with water. I don't think it's too rough at all, and they clean his bum so much better than sposie wipes. IMO some of the sposie wipes are pretty rough - I wouldn't put them near my bum!

Krystie, I have a little bag with a zip, and when going out I just pre-wet the cloths and pop them in the bag. Too easy! I have a friend who could not ever use sposie wipes cos her DS had such a bad reaction to them - she would take a packet of cotton pads out with her, and just wet them as she needed them. Whatever works for you I say. As for at home, I used to have a container of water on the change table, but then DS became mobile and found it lol. Now I have the wipes folded in a pile on the change table and a bottle of water (like a pop top drink bottle). I just wet the wipes as I need them. It really is just as easy!
