Thread: When to do a pregnancy test?

Default When to do a pregnancy test?

Now, normally I would just take two missed periods as a sign I was pregnant. I'm happy with not knowing early and just living life normally, just with some extra vitamin tablets.

But, a job has come up that I really want. My period is due on Wednesday, the deadline for applying is on Thursday. So I'll need to have applied by Weds night to post it through the letterbox.

Now, if I apply and can't take the job because I'm pregnant, I will have no job. Not good. If I don't apply but am not pregnant, I'll be upset. But then if I apply and have to not TTC for an extra couple of months I won't be thrilled either, but it will be worth it knowing that I don't have to stay where I am (but if I'm pregnant, I won't mind that as either way I'd be leaving in the summer, although going back after a long break, ideally 16 months).

I do have some HPTs in the house, so can test tomorrow morning - although one is near the use-by date as I got them for when I had a late period about 16 months ago. Then be in an even worse mood on Monday morning! So as I ovulated on the Tuesday 2 weeks ago, I'll be 13dpo on Monday, right? That's not too early, I think, but with a normal HPT (not the gazillion-pound "we might be able to tell you 3 days before your period, but don't count on it" test) will it give a decent result? Do I test with the older one or a newer one? Does it matter?

I've not done an HPT and got a positive before, so would like to know how best to get an accurate result. Any hints or tips? (Other than FMU and don't drink too much this evening, including no alcohol.)

Apply for the job. If its something you want go for it. You can always change that later.
Some people get bfp 13dpo. But that is up to you. Will a bfn really get you down?

I'd apply. No point being somewhere you're unhappy.

As long as still in the expiry, don't think old or new would matter. If purchased IC's in bulk when ttc DD and used the last couple a few months ago when I thought I was pg, they were still accurate.

Should add - the job start is in September. There's no way I could start a new job and be off on maty leave within 2 months!

I don't hate my current job, exactly, I just don't want to do it full time any more. The new job is 20 hours a week rather than 40, and catering to a different group of people. And the place I've wanted to work for about 3 years. If it weren't for this job, I wouldn't even be looking.

i would apply for the job, and i wouldn't stop ttc for a job or potential job beginning in 6 months. alot can happen in that time.

when i was looking for work after studying and my job becoming redundant, i became pregnant. I continued to apply for permanent or long term jobs until i was 12+ weeks pg. Past this time, i applied more for short term jobs.

You can always withdraw your application if you get a bfp!

You said it yourself. You like to keep living life normally so do that. Apply for the job and keep living like normal. Don't test on the basis of applying for a job or not. Like others said, so much can happen in that time and you wont be the first person to get a job and then find out you are pregnant and wont be the last.

Apply for the job. By applying you are not signing up to anything. Don't forget a job application process is also for you to check out and 'interview' your potential employer so you can still withdraw your application or turn down an interview or an offer at anytime. IMO an application isn't something you would change your plans for. Goodluck with the application and the HPT!!

I would still apply for the position too you can always withdraw from it if you are successful and get a positive hpt either in the next couple of days or soon in the future. You can put your life on hold for what ifs xx

Go for it! You don't know what the future holds either way so no point delaying a decision you want to make in the affirmative based on a whole lot of maybes and uncertainties.

I've applied. DH was worried about the employment situation, but as you lovely ladies pointed out, I can withdraw if I am preggers. Wish me luck either way!
