Default Routines & Programs Recommended by BellyBelly

**This is a work in progress, bear with me while I get this set up!**

    Newborn & Baby

    Pinky McKay IBCLC

    WHO?

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, Pinky McKay is a Melbourne based writer and editor specialising in health, education and family issues. She also works ?hands on? with parents, teaching infant massage and solving breastfeeding problems, with many clients being referred to her by health professionals such as GPs and MCH nurses. Unlike many other parenting 'experts', Pinky is a mother (of 5 children!) so she's not just practicing what she's read from a textbook - she's had real life experience and been through many of the situations we have as mothers, 5 times over!

    HOW?

Pinky provides workshops (sleep, breastfeeding, infant massage, toddler behaviour), seminars and home visits (home visits in VIC only) for families with new babies and young children. See Pinky's current workshops here.

Pinky has written several books which are published by Penguin and can be found in the BellyBelly online store here: Sleeping Like a Baby, 100 Ways to Calm the Crying, Toddler Tactics and the gorgeous Gentle Beginnings Baby Massage DVD.

Parenting (approx 3 years of age to teens)

Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) & ETIA (Australian Institute)

    WHO?

I'd never heard of this before so I was especially shocked when I found out that P.E.T. was created and founded by Dr. Thomas Gordon in 1962. He has since been a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997, 1998, 1999 and winner of the 1999 American Psychology Institute Award for Peace Studies in 2000.

    HOW?

Courses are done in person all over Australia (and overseas) via group sessions or individual counselling. They also have a book and other products, the PET book can be found in the BellyBelly online store here: Parent Effeciveness Training: The Proven Program for Raising Responsible Children by Thomas Gordon.

    WHAT?

How You and Your Family Will Benefit

    * Your children will feel free to discuss their problems and concerns with you instead of withdrawing.
    * They will learn self-discipline, self-control and an inner sense of personal responsibility.
    * You will learn how to work with each other instead of against each other.
    * You'll experience fewer angry outbursts and more problem-solving.
    * Everyone can participate in rule-setting so all will feel motivated to comply with the rules.
    * Fewer power struggles--less tension, less resentment, more fun, more peace, more love.

    What You Will Learn

    * How to talk to your children so that they will listen to you.
    * How to listen to your children so they feel genuinely understood.
    * How to resolve conflicts and problems in your family so that no one loses and problems stay solved.
    * A method for troubleshooting family problems and knowing which skills to use to solve them.

I have attended this course which is 8 weeks long, each session is 3 hours long, once a week and I can honestly say I haven't enjoyed being a parent this much in a long time! So much easier when you have tools that work and respect both parent and child.
