Does your dog sleep inside?

My girls sleep inside as well, we have two dog beds on the ground next to our bed and they sleep there. Sometimes they wiggle their way up onto our bed, but they are big dogs and have both been crate trained so most of the time they are well behaved and stay on their beds.

We take them out for a walk at around 10.30 or right before bed, and again first thing in the morning. Both my girls are older, 6yrs and 12 years and are well into the habit of bedtime. We know that if something happens, there is a reason for it. They spend most of the day outside, and come inside whenever we are home. Our old girl wears a coat at night in winter and comes with me to work when I go at night to the vet hospital, and our younger dog has been trained to sleep with our DD1 when we have a bad night with her. So she leans on my DD's legs to help her sleep.... its a sensory thing that we have used the dog to help.

Our dog sleeps inside, we have a doggie doors she uses to go in and out as she needs to. She has a bed in the lounge room.

We used to have two dogs and had them outside but we have lots of possums and the dogs would bark too much.

our dog sleeps inside. we got her as a young pup so went through the toilet training thang...outside on a lead after dinner (hers) and just before bed time and would go on repeat 'do a wee' and when we saw her squat down to wee/poo we would say: 'do wee/do poos'. that way she learnt the association. we also had a section of the kitchen area (which was gated off from the rest of house) that had newspapers down in case of 'accidents'.
it took a bit of time, but she got there and now can wait aaagggess before needing to be let out for a wee in the morning.

i guess with the dog only being new to your house it will take some time, and being *slightly* older it may take a bit more for him to twig what the deal is. in your situation i would cut down on the night wees to just the one after dinner, and then again at bedtime. use heaps of positive reinforcement when he wees outside and then back in. create a little area for accidents...they tend to understand it pretty well, give or take of course, and then wake up quite early and let him out for a wee in the morning. eventually you will find that he builds up his ability to 'hold on' as he has the structure and routine to go by.

We have two dogs and they're inside all night. They do a wee before bed and very rarely have an accident. Frankly when they do it's a lot easier than DD's accidents in her bed. :rolleyes:

yahtzee used to co-sleep with us until we got pg, now she sleeps in her basket in our room (much to her disgust).
shes 4 now and grew out of having to pee during the night at about 2.
she also pees when we say "do a wee" but 1/2 the time its too cold or wet or something 4 her 2 want to go out before bed and in the morning, i swear she has an iron bladder! she can go an entire trip from adelaide to melbourne with 1 toilet stop!
if u have a doggy door, can u leave the door open so they can go in and out of the doggy door during the night if they need?

our 2 dogs are outside all the time. I let them in for short stints during the day for a play, but dont like them being in for too long. We also have two cats who are kept inside only at night and out during the day. But since being pregnant i've been really fussy on where they sleep...not sure why because i used to be happy for them to sleep on the bed with us but now i cant stand it so if i wake up and find them on the bed i push them off.

Millie sleeps int he laundry which is out the back, weperate from our house. The door stays open all day and at night we lock her in there.

When she was younger she slept inside, but she likes to pee on the carpet during the night, however in the laundry she holds on til morning cause theres no carpet in there!

Mine sleep outside together...either on their trampoline bed, in their kennel or on their old lounge. lol...yes my furbabies are spoiled.

We have a Rottweiler & American Staffy and both sleep outside. They're too big and get into too much mischief to sleep inside!

We have three dogs, two huskies and a mastiff X dane. All three are inside dogs my boy either sleeps on the bed or on the floor next to me. My girl sleeps in the loungeroom in DH's recliner. DH's girl sleeps on the bed if my boy is on the floor, or outside on futon on the verandah if my boy is in bed. I had the two huskies before I met DH, took him a while to get use to the idea of dogs being in the house. He was a 'farm boy' and "dogs belong outside". I told him they are my dogs, I had them first, it's my house, he could deal with it. Now his "outside dog" became an inside during the day dog but not on the furniture to an inside during the day dog and on the couch but not on the bed dog to an inside when it was cold or rainning but not on the bed dog, to a bed dog :rofl:

Toilet training. Puppies need to pee as soon as they wake up. The older they get the longer they can go before they need to pee. Mine can hold out for up to 18 hours now (they don't like to get their paws wet if it's raining and will hold on for AGES :o ) I foud when puppies if I took them out right before bed time and gave them a command....generall "go do wees, c'mon go wee wee" in a sickly sweet baby talk sort of voice, and kept them ouside till they did, then they could go longer during the night. DH's dog was the hardest, but she was started at the oldest age. With her I found it helped if I took the water away a couple hours before bedtime, then took her out and got her to wee right before we closed up for the night. We've not had a mess from any of them in years, and now they only wake us up at night now if they are sick (have the runs or need to vomit or something like that)
