Didn't want to use real plants as Murray cod can be quite aggressive with digging them up.
He has some of the creek rocks in his tank now & seems ok, we are trying to keep his tank as 'natural looking' as possible. Will take some pics today.
Sounds great ZF. I would stick with plastic plants, I and various African chiclids and they like to 'personalise' their tanks and I got sick of replanting my live plants on a daily basis. Some rocks can leach minerals into tanks which can affect pH so keep an eye on it, I think there is a way to test stone using vinegar but can't remember, if you worried you could google it . If the rocks are from a creek already I would assume anything that would dissolve quickly in water may have already leached out?..

Will check the pH - he's had some bigger rocks in his tank for over a week now and seems ok... will be filtering out the new tank for over a week with the rocks in it so HOPEFULLY that would get rid of some of the nasties.
Photo's are HERE - not the greatest but they will do for now.
PLAN - clean up the rocks, the stand and the tank, work out how the hell the backdrop filter works, fill the bottom part at the back with the filter wool.
Wash off the creek rocks for the 100th time then fill then setup the creek rocks, a couple of the bigger rocks, get a few more fake plants.
Fill the tank and let it filter for over a week, do a partial water change, filter for a few days with some of Murray's water and plants in there.

Sounds like Murray will love his new home! I'm jealous and I'm not a fish. LOL. DH has told me off about how I feed his fish: apparently you're not supposed to see them beg for food and then pop food in the tank. You're supposed to gently add the flakes slowly over a few minutes, so the slower fish eat too. Yeah? I obviously give too much food as the "slow" fish get to eat when I feed the fish... didn't admit that to DH though!
For rocks changing the pH - it's usually carbonates that do this. Not coca-cola (which is a carbonated drink), more like calcium carbonate (which is chalk/marble).
If you put some vinegar on the rock, it will appear to fizz or bubble. This lets of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide in water forms an acid (carbonic acid).
If you want to see this on a grand scale (warning: can get messy), get about 10-20ml of vinegar in a cup, then add a spoon of sodium bicarbonate (ie the bicarb in your baking cupboard). That's how DS and I make play volcanoes outside.
Thanks hun, we hope he likes it and we can't wait to see him grow.. he doesn't have a lot of space in his new home so it's going to be HUGE for him.... we put a few little shrimp in from the creek to see if he eats them so we might treat him once a week with some fresh shrimp :)
Murray's new setup is being filtered, hopefully he's in it by the end of the week.
