i read a fantasy book where one of the main characters is a chicken (who's not really a chicken). Her name was Ethel. When i get my chickens, that's what i'm naming one of ours.

I always name my chooks after older women in my life who I have loved. i know it doesn't seem very respectful, but if they understood how much I love my chooks...!!
My chook's names:
Betty (maternal grandma)
Thelma (paternal grandma)
Molly (great aunt)
Beryl (kind neighbour when I was growing up)
Jeanie (lady I used to visit at our local nursing home)
I think chooks are a lot like old ladies! I watch them for a few days before I name them too, coz they've all got really diff personalities. Betty, for example, was quit aloof and liked to wander off by herself (independent like the grandma by the same name). Jeanie is a complete scatter-brain but is extremely sweet and loves company, much like the lady with Alzheimer's that I once visited.
GL with the naming process!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! Have had a talk with DP & we've come up with;
White chicken - Foofa
Black chicken - Cybil
Red chicken - Henny Penny (Really, what else could one call their first red hen?!)
and the last one....
....Mab! ;)
I love them already, clucking & scratching away... :D
Fabulous names QM! Well done and enjoy!
No Miss Moneypenny?
I hope you enjoy them - ther's something so relaxing about listening to the chooks of an afternoon :)
Toffee
Madam
Midnight
Snowflake
KFC (was black)
Blackie

We had two more white and another red.
All that I can remember of the 13 we had at one stage when I was younger.
What sort of chickens are they QM?? Ive been wanting to get some for a while but haven't looked into it properly yet. Might talk to DH about it again tonight.
My nieces have 2 chickens Terri and Perri (Teryaki and Perri Perri  gross, but pretty clever for a 10 and 5 year old!!)
cute names, I was thinking dixie LOL.
Willow - I don't know what they are!! DP 'wasn't listening...' when the lady told him...
I like the older names too, doesn't matter if all the names match as it will help set them apart from one another!
