Big hugs to you and your family. Don't know what I would do if it was my fur baby :(
Huge  for you guys. So cute that your kids are making a roster to be with him, I'm sure he knows he is very loved. xx

Hugs Hun,
I'm really sorry to hear about Scruffy xx
I'm so sorry Dianne. No words can describe the pain one feels when they know their pet is very ill and there is only limited time. He is a very lucky doggie to have a beautiful family who love him so much. Thinking of your beautiful Scruffy and sending him many many cuddles. Big hugs to all, your children sound so brave and so caring :grouphug:.
Millie had her pups last night, 3 and Scruffy had a peek but she wont let him get too close. He seems to have gotten his apetite back which is good and seems comfortable.
Regards,
Dianne
Oh wow bitter sweet for you all, I am glad he got to see his pups and is eating a bit.
That's great to hear!!
Scruffy is still doing ok, our Vet rang on Friday asking about him, I don't think he thought Scruffy would still be with us. We are taking him in tomorrow just for a check-up. How would you be able to tell if he was in pain? I don't think he is, he seems quite content but then again I don't want him suffering in silence. Thanks to those who have been checking up on him.
Regards,
Dianne
Glad to read he's still with you. Many animals seem to have a high pain threshold. I know when our last dog died, she was fading for a while, then one day her legs just went. Mum took her to the vet and the family said goodbye and she went to sleep. We always said we'd know it was time when she stopped eating, but she ate right to the end :)
Is he eating and drinking? Does he seem comfortable lying down or is he restless? Is he going to the toilet ok? The vet will be able to advise you but if he seems content, then he likely is. Has he been able to see his new puppies?
He is eating and drinking fine and yep, he's seen he's puppies. He sits outside the kennel with Millie and the pups and always did this when she's had pups, like he is protecting his wife and kids.
Regards,
Dianne
Congratulations on the puppies arriving. I am so happy that Scruffy got to see them.
You know your dog better then anyone so you will know when the time comes to make the choice. Like Tashybabe said dogs don't tend to show pain. Till then, everyday is just a little blessing for you all.
Oh that is so gorgeous! I'm so glad scruffy is doing ok. My InLaws dog had cancer, they removed one of his legs. He was still good for many years, but as he got older he couldn't walk properly any more. After a few days of him not being able to get up, we decided it was time.
When the time does come for scruffy you can get the vet to do an 'outcall' It is when the vet will come to your house. It's so much less traumatic for the animal and you get to be in the comfort of your home. But I hope that day doesn't come too soon :)
Love that he sits "guard" outside the kennel. Glad he got to see his babies
Nice to hear that Scruffy was around for his pups and that he is being a good Daddy and 'protecting' the babies. Are you keeping one of the pups?
