Poor Nake. I hope you'll find him soon. Have you checked all warm spots? Under/behind the fridge? Under the sofa/bed? Behind the TV? Under the DVD player?
Maybe put a hot water bottle in the corner of a room and pray that he is drawn to it... Otherwise I heard of another trick:
Get a plastic jar with a screw lid (like the one that you can buy peaches in), cut a hole of the size of your snake in it, add a few 'air holes', put some food (dead mice/ pinkies) in it and walk away! IF the snake makes its way into the jar and eats the food, it gets too big to get out through the same hole. Then just unscrew the lid and voila! You caught yourself a snake. This also works with plastic bottles, but I think you have to cut the bottle open to get the snake out... I think I'd prefer the jar option! Another method to catch a snake is to use sticky traps (that you would normally use for mice/ rats). Just keep checking the trap all the time so your poor Nake doesn't wear himself out trying to get off!! Then when he is caught, use a cotton bud dipped in vegetable oil to remove him from the sticky trap (the oil will 'un-stick' the snake without harming it).

I think in China it's terribly bad luck to kill a snake in the wild. Maybe because there's a tendency to get bitten in the process... I know I wouldn't brave it. :hide:

I hope you find him! I love pythons, but have only really been up close and personal once.
I wouldn't kill a snake. Firstly because it's illegal, as they are protected species, and secondly because they are fabulous creatures.
We have a resident copperhead. Venemous and very, very beautiful. It's non-confrontational and allows itself to be 'mustered' by DP via shovel back out to the other side of the paddock fence. We've cut the grass down so that it's less likely to wander back this way, and we've taken some photos cos he's really lovely to look at. Initially, before we ID'd it, DP said he would kill any snake in the yards because of the dogs and kids. I said I would rather he drive them out or call a wildlife officer. I've gone all Steve Irwin on him ;)
Yes, I love my kids, of course I do. It's a risk we take. Even if we don't kill snakes around here, the kids still run the risk of being bitten.
BTW, and I didn't know this till I was trying to ID our wild snake - Oz snakes don't climb trees, they are ground dwellers, so if you see one in a tree in your neighbourhood, it's an escaped pet.
Farm World in Warragul next week will have a snake handler with education sessions, for those interested :)

That might be it. Most aboreale snakes would be found in the sub tropics so from the Sydney mid north coast and upwards all the way to the top of QLD.
I was going to suggest that Nake would probably still be in the house, and he got found in the bath. He may still be in the house, I hope you find him again soon :hug:. My old Sensei used to have a python, and he used to let it out of its enclosure, it used to get into all sorts of peculiar places in the house. Hanging from the curtain rail (between curtain and glass) is the only one I can remember though. Oh, and under the couch. Good luck.:goodluck:
Hmm, thanks everyone for your suggestions.. We have checked everywhere and he hasn't been found again :( Raupe, we will try your suggestion with the bottle and mouse.. Will have to wait til tomorrow night though.. No one has been home much and DP has been at work all day today and will be tomorrow.. And I have to get a bottle.. The only thing is, when they eat aren't you supposed to leave them alone?
When they eat, like anything if you move it around to much or stress him out, he might regurge whatever he's eaten (thats happened to us once or twice)
You might still find him, we've had snakes get out here and there before (over the 5 years we've been doing it) and we've found them again, usually (as someone above mentioned) in a warm spot in the house, just be sure to look everywhere, even places you wouldnt think.
We had one of our olives get out and she had crawled into the dvd drawer under the telly (a warm spot) and then we had one of our other (much much bigger olives get out - so big that he actually lifted the top of the tank off, needless to say we moved him into someonething else lol) and he was actually in our bed!! Imagine my surpise when i went to crawl into bed that night haha!!
I really hope you guys find him, coz as sad as it is, most people would kill him :(

we had a diamond python for a few years... I wouldn't recommend trying to pick Nake up while or just as he's about to get into his tucker. DH did this once, our snake -Carmen - dropped her tucker, turned and gave DH a "pee off man'' little nip, then went back to her mousey meal. It was the only time she ever bit anyone... and quite frankly i understand her feelings towards food :)
no, you aren't supposed to handle them after eating but i'm sure in this circumstance, if you carefully put Nake back in his tank/cage, it'd be fine.

Hi, no we haven't.. Still haven't tried mouse trap yet though.. DP is moving house on Friday, so is hoping he'll find him somewhere.. I must remember to get some mice tomorrow.. I keep forgetting.. Poor Nake! This could be his last chance or he'll end up left behind, or if he is hiding he could end up in a storage shed!
Aaawww sorry to hear ur pet snakes missing! :( I reckon try putting a live mouse in the snake tank and just close it up so the mouse cant get out but the snake will be able to get back in thru the crack it got out of. If the snake does get attracted to the mouse and has a good feed it will most likely kick back in the tank for a while digesting its meal so u will have time to seal up the cracks. The reason i say use a live mouse is cos im pretty sure snakes are attracted to food by the heat so a live one might work a bit better and quicker then a dead one! Plus the dead one will start smelling a bit after a while if the snake doesnt find it quick enough..yucky! :)
