gees, this thread has me a little depressed!! i know they tell you that everyone is different, and not to worry about everyone else but... i can't help it!!
i'm 30 weeks PG and have already put on 14kgs!! i haven't been following a strict diet or anything, but i'm not eating any more than i did before i got pregnant... i don't understand why i'm putting on so much weight, and how the hell i'm going to lose it all!!
max, i put on 6kgs during my first trimester. and i started getting bigger STRAIGHT AWAY. i was all upset one sat night (was going out to a party) that i was looking so big even though i had been eating well and exercising lots, and then the next day i discovered that i was PG (and only 4 weeks and 1 day!).. i wasn't trying to get PG, so it's not as if i could have been "imagining" that i was bigger in the hope of being PG...

Ella - with my first I'd put on the same weight gain by 30 weeks. Don't be so hard on yoursellf. Maybe our bodies naturally store more with the first babies. I was very active with my first, more than I am now by far and put on heaps more weight.

Hello ladies :hello:
Thanks very much for the updates. It has been very useful.
I am trying to make an effort to eat healthy. Did any of you ladies exercise while being pregnant? I do go walking in the weekend with my other half and my two beautiful doggies for about an hour and half. I am not sure if that is enough. Should I be doing a bit more exercise? What did you ladies do?
Thnx

I did some excercise - but just light stuff. I did walking and yoga.
-
i swim and do pilates and yoga. i was 'power' walking but did get some pelvic pain so i have been giving that a miss lately. my ob never weighs me, she did at the start said i was good weight and would not do it again unless i was worried either way. dont stress about it, try to be healthy and a little active and you will be fine.and Ella DO NOT stress about it, you look fab!

hi there
i put on about 18 kilos with my first but only got to 35 weeks so would have been over 20 had i gone full term. lost the weight pretty quickly with breastfeeding and i think a lot was fluid anyway.
second time around i think it was about 16 kilos at full term. i was more careful with what i ate and did more exercise. i lost the weight very quickly with breastfeeding and got down to the lowest weight i had been in a few years (57 kgs).
this time around i have put on 7 kilos so far and i am now nearly 22 weeks. i have been careful with what i eat although very hungry all the time so eating more and i have been exercising - yoga, pilates and very low level gym exercise.
i think some people just have a tendency to put on more weight when pregnant. i try not to stress about it too much as i experience has shown it is not too hard to lose if breastfeeding and i figure my body must want me to put on the weight if i am eating well and exercising and still putting on weight.
im sure the tightness you are noticing is just bloating. its very common in those early weeks and it settles down - although by then you get the belly anyway!
best wishes

With DD I did exercise - yoga, pregnancy excercise classs, walking.
With this one - nada! And weight gain is still about the same. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I think that getting it off will be different though.

This is also my first pregnancy and at 33 weeks, so far I've gained around 8-8.5kg. I guess everyone's different coz some people said I'm small and some said I'm getting bigger now :p
Don't worry too much about the weight, something good is coming our way :)

I gained 6kg in total (was already 12-15kg overweight before i got PG). I'd lost it all by the time DD was 4 days old and i am now 20kg lighter than when i got PG. I breastfed, which helped me, but it doesn't help everyone.
I walked 4 miles 5 days a weeks, too and from work, and swam 1km every week (sometimes twice depending on my mood). I finished work at 34 weeks but i still walked 2 miles every day (i walked a mile IN labour). Keeping active helped me to feel human on those giant-like-a-gable-end days. LOL

Hi Max,
I don't generally exercise, but if i have to go somewhere nearby, i'll walk it instead of catching a bus or a cab, or just shop for hours walking around the shopping centre! But usually i'm just at home on my laptop! I think my girl just guzzles a lot of what i'm eating/drinking and then i'm passing it out fairly quickly! :D

All you ladies are just great inspirations. It is so lovley reading everyones experiences and thanks for all your answers. It has been great help. And like Aglinra said, something good is coming our way....

Hi Max.
Firstly, everyone's pregnancy is so different, so remember not to compare yourself to what anyone else says :) During pregnancy I gained 12kg (baby was 4.2kg at birth). I did regualr swimming and was on my feet everyday at work. I lost most of the weight in the first month after birth. I was surprised to find how amazing your body is-- it does so much slimming down on it's own-- I can assure you I was not out there madly exercising post-natally ;) but with the loss of the weight of the actual baby, placenta, excess blood volume, fluid, etc., (plus I found that my utereus contracted heaps on its own in the first week or so) it all adds up to losing those kgs.
Good luck for a healthy pregnancy!

I'm not exercising this pregnancy - I'm not allowed to swim which I normally do at least 3 times a week and I have quite bad pelvic pain, so walking aggrevates it. Saying that I'm seeing the physiotherapist next week and will hopefully get some exercises to do, if only stretching.
With my first I walked, walked, walked....

i weighed myself religiously during pg #1 and put on about 12 kgs all up. With pg #2 and this one it will prob be around 10kgs. Like Karina, i too was a freak and wearing my sz 8 jeans outta the hossi....BUT please dont be obssessed by the scales. It truly is a wonderful journey in life, your body knows what to do (it got pregnant didnt it !!) and with eating in moderation, you should be fine.
I do no exercise. Running after two toddlers is my exercise....

I was 54kg before prg, I weighed 84 kg the day before giving birth. The day after I weighed 76kg. Nine months to gain and 2 years to shift. So far this prg I have gained 18kgs. Will be interesting to see what happens this time.

I put on 13 kg last time. I was pretty happy with that, but it took me a whole year to lose! I lost about 5kg from the birth, but the rest was quite hard work (& I was bf too).
This time I have put on around 9kg, so should be approx 10kg by the end, but I am a lot more active, much fitter than last time. So I think that will help to shed the weight afterwards.....at least I hope....
Try not to worry too much, it really isn't long in the grand scheme of things. :)

Hi Max, congrats on your PG :bellyrubs:
I put on 12kg with my daughter who weighed 4kg at birth. Somehow I lost all of it over night & was walking around the hospital the following day in my normal clothes, I even got asked by one of the midwives if DD was mine when I went to the nursery & picked her up!! (As if I'd be in there picking up someone elses baby... honestly!)
I didnt do any excersise whatsoever during my PG or after so I think it has alot to do with your genes, but I do recommend excersise, I will be trying to with my next PG because it is of course good for you & your baby & can only do good hey :)
I have since put on 9kg in the past 8 months while TTC our second child so when I do get PG next (fingers crossed I can!) I will definately be watching what I eat etc as my body is obviously different now to what it was pre-baby when I could eat whatever I wanted & never put on weight.
As the girls have said, everyone is different & every pregnancy is different so I wish you luck with your pregnancy & also for after you've given birth. Of course the main thing is to have a healthy baby but we would all like to look our best at the same time... why not!
As I said, good luck... try not to be too hard on yourself, you have to try & enjoy your pregnancy too so you cant be too strict on yourself.
Take care,
Danielle
