we have a medium sized house. If I leave the doors open I can hear DS easily. I purchaced one but stopped using it as it was making him too loud. It would wake me when he turned over in his cot or made a few little noises. I was getting no sleep and it was horrible.
We have a sound and movement monitor. We too have a small house, so I only use the sound monitor if we are working in the yard, etc. I always turn the movement part on though cause then when she sleeps for 3 hours in the middle of the day I don't have to worry about checking on her, I know she is fine. It's AMAZING for piece of mind! If you get one second hand off ebay it will be a lot cheaper. I think mine was about $110 off ebay (angelcare sound and movement monitor with 2 movement pads).
