I wanted to share my bleeding story - hope it is encouraging to those who search on here because they start to bleed & are worrying about miscarrying!!

I had brown spotting at 11.5 weeks - rushed to hospital, who couldn't do anything (too late at night to get an ultrasound) & told me it was a 'threatened misscarriage' & to go home & rest for a week. Went for ultrasound the next day & baby was ok. Spotting lasted for 3 days, and then stopped.

At 13.5 weeks, had brown spotting again (only lasted for a day this time). Dr couldn't hear hb with doppler & sent me for series of blood tests to confirm hormone levels rising. They were - he said everything was ok.

At 14.5 weeks, I had bright red bleeding (like a light period) for 4-6 hours. It then changed to brown spotting & continued for the rest of the day & into the next day. I went for another ultrasound &, yet again, everything was fine - baby was fine & placenta was attached, with no obvious haemorrage.

So I guess my message is this - bleeding does not mean THE END - even red blood. It is scary to find out that your bleeding - but take heart, bubs may still be happy & healthy.

Here's my experience (thus far):

The first day of my last [normal] period was May 4th. On June 8th I started my period, but it seemed rather light and just kind of strange. I was "bleeding" lightly up until about the 18th when it changed to more of a brown mucus. On the 21st, I took 3 pregnancy tests: all which came back positive. On June 25th, I went to the hospital for cramps and bleeding. They did an ultrasound and saw nothing. They took blood at my HcG count was at 152 @ 10:00am - which they said was low. They also found I was blood type O-... which could have been partial cause for miscarriage. They gave me the Rh- shot. I was scheduled for blood work again on May 27th to test the HcG again. They said it was mostly likely that I had a miscarriage, but they had to follow the HcG count down to zero. Well, my HcG count was up to 201 at 8:00am. I am scheduled AGAIN for blood work this coming Tuesday (July 3rd)... the nurse told us that we can be "cautiously optimistic" about still being pregnant.

The first woman I saw basically said I would be 7 weeks pregnant and had a miscarriage. NOW they are saying that I could just be only 3 or 4 weeks along. Currently, there is no bleeding or cramps again and it's a light brown mucus inside my vagina... barely there.

It's been such a rollercoaster ride of emotions to go through being told I'd be 7 weeks along and enduring a miscarriage... to being told "Well, with the HcG count rising, you could just be not very far along in the pregnancy."

Hello all im new here..... well first off i am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant and on Tuesday I had a ultrasound to date the baby and they found the baby had a nice strong heartbeat the yolk sac was there and all seemed good when I got home i went and had a sleep and when I woke up there was slight brown pink blood on the tissue when I wiped... I had slight back pain that night but woke up today and feel fine no spotting no pain just the dreaded morning sickness or as I like to say all day morning sickness that I have had since week 5...... I have read that if you see the babies heartbeat at 9 weeks onwards that theres a 90% chance that the baby will be fine even when you spot but i am concerned the hospital told me to rest up and to come in if it gets worse but at the moment theres not much they can do....

I have had 3 pregnancys since 2004 my first miscarried at 16 weeks it had stopped growing and that was pretty horrific for me the second was 2005 at 6 weeks and I fell pregnant last year April and gave birth to my son Joel who is now 7 months old for me I was diagnosed since having Joel with PCOSS and was told I wouldnt fall pregnant again without help...... This baby is due Feb 17th 2008 so my children will be 1 year 1 month apart a little too soon but least they will grow up together but i am still rather worried.

i was wondering what type of scan did you have was it an internal one or a normal tummy one. some times the internal one can do that but its nothing to worry about.
the fact your still feeling sick and saw a healthy baby on the scan is all good but if it is playing on your mind pop back in to your hospital and see if they will do another scan i know how scary it is to see spotting
I had spotting on and off for about a month with my first baby i still had morning sickness really bad as well he is 6 now on my second baby i was feeling sick on till one morning it was a Thursday i woke up feeling fine and then i got spotting that turned in to heavy bleeding i was admitted in to hospital as they thought it was an ectopic but luckily for me it wasn't it took them ages to confirm i had lost the baby though they used blood tests on a positive note i found out i was pregnant about 8 weeks after i had some spotting with him also i went in for a scan and he was healthy and could see a heart beat too and i still felt so sick too he is 4 now
i think with all you have gone through its only natural you should be more than a little worried and i would really recommend getting them to do another scan it will reassure you to see the heart beating and the little baby growing.also with your past history they should be better at reassuring you.

my first two boys have the exact same age difference and i love it they are the best of friends and yes there were moments its so worth it i have a 15 month old now and i would love another baby but i have to wait on till i stop breastfeeding as i cant seem to get pregnant while i am

any way i think you will be fine spotting is so common and so scary think positive youll be fine

I thought I would add my story as well. I had my first bleed at around 5 weeks. It was pink and kind of clumpy so I panicked and rushed to see my doctor. She was a total hosebag and without even looking a me said I was probably miscarrying but booked me in for an U/s the following week and put me on bed rest jsut in case. The bleeding stoped in a few days and the scan showed a little blob with a heartbeat. We breathed a huge sigh of relief.

2-3 weeks later we were staying with friends in a new city we had just move to, while we looked for a house, and one afternoon I started bleeding again. It was dark red and clumpy so I got worried again. It was a Sunday so my husand took me to emergency. The doctor on call was fantastic! He said it was probably nothing but he did an internal exam and said that my cervix was closed up tight and that he didn't see any more blood so it was likely nothing to be worried about. He scheduled and U/S for a few days later just to be sure. Again the U/s showed the baby was fine. The tech said she could see a spot where a small bleed had occured and that I may bleed again, but not to worry, it was from where the planecta was attached.

Sure enough 3 weeks later I started spotting again. This time it was brown. I called my new doctor for reassurance (the nice one from emergency became my regular doctor) and he said as long as it stayed dark, and I had no cramps top just monitor it and call him if it becae red or if I was cramping. It stopped the next day and I am happy to say I have seen no more blood since.

It really is scary seeing blood though, I cried every time with worry, but luckily it turned out to be nothing ot worry about. I'm now at 23 weeks and baby is doing great.

thanks for answering I had a normal one they did press hard though but so far all seems fine the only time i get pain is when I need to go to the toilet as I am constipated had that with joel and so far no more bleeding just the sickness wont give up its horrid hehe so fingers crossed i think all should be ok if i start again i will go have another scan i think.

It's comforting to know that many of you have gone through what I am experiencing now. It has been a rough week, but I recieved some pretty good news today.

I started cramping, and bleeding a week ago, and went to the ER. It was too early in my pregnancy for them to see anything during the U/S. My HCG count was at 153, and 201 not quite 48 hrs later . I just got the call from my last blood test, and I am at 543. My U/S is scheduled for next Thursday (Aug 2). I am still bleeding a little every day, but have never passed any clots. My bleeding has never been very heavy, and have been able to wear just a pantyliner everyday.

I'm so glad that I found this forum, as it has givin me Hope!

I just want to see if anyone has any thoughts about what has happened to me. On June 29th I took a pregnancy test and it was very very faintly pink. My husband swears that he never saw the line, but I know that I saw it. It really was almost not there. But that was the day I was suppose to get my period and I did about 2 hours later. So I was a little disappointed but it was ok. I still hadn't stopped bleeding by the 10th so I went to the doctor that day because I and she had me take the pee test, she did an u/s, and they also took my blood. Which I'm surprised that they got any out at the rate I was losing blood. I had also been passing a lot of clots (I know that is pretty gross). So my hcg levels were in the 50s so two days later I went in and they took more blood and I was still bleeding. Oh yeah, and they didn't see anything but blood in the u/s. Well those levels came back in the 70s but I was sure that it was probably because there was still something in there. Well a couple days later on Sunday I had a gush of blood and a two inch long clot come out of me (I really am sorry this is so gross). I stopped bleeding soon after that, which was good because 19 days was enough for me. So I called and told the dr's office that i was feeling fine and the bleeding had stopped so I probably didn't need to come in again, but they wanted me to any way. I went in that Thursday and my hormone levels were in the 200s. That was very weird to me. I went the following monday and they were in the 400s, so I'm pregnant. I have no idea why I was bleeding so much though because I didn't even bleed that much after I had my daughter 4 years ago. I'm totally confused and a little worried. I hope that it is a normal pregnancy. I go on Wed the 1st to get an u/s. Does anyone think that I could have lost a twin? We had only been trying for less than a month to get pregnant because I had my IUD taken out on the 30th of May and had only had it for 15 months.

Hi every one.
I am now 11.5 weeks pregnant. Yesterday after work i went to the toilet and noticed like a nude color discharge in my undies. I went to GP and was told that it is normal and if continued (got worse and if i got any pain go to hospital) So at dinner time went to loo and wiped a small bright red clot about 1/2 cm So straight to hospital. Dr there said he was not too worried as is common. I have a U/S today at 11 but i am so worried - the sight of that blood was just the worst thing. I had absolutely no sleep at all last night. We saw the little heart beat at 7.5 weeks and all was good it was a really strong beat - fingers are crossed that its still the same...

Just to update - i lost the baby... I had u/s and showed fetus but no heart beat - stopped growing at 9 weeks - absolutely shatered. I had d/c tonight and just dont know what to do next... Anyway just thought id update.

With the blood tests did they have you take one two days after the first and did show a rise in your hcg level? Quick explanation to why I ask....I took a home EPT last week then took two more between that and last monday. All Pos..anyway the doctor said the office test was neg and I prob lost it a few days before. But no clumps have shown themselves with the spotting. Most importantly this is our third baby and I know what I feel. Anyway after what seemed like forever I made my Hub call him and the blood says yes. I have bleed with all my kids... in fact I didn't even realize it with my first till I was 3 MO. had reg period no clot all way thru. I am trying to put my self at ease. If the doc is now saying it could be early prego then I am wondering if the hcg level will show any activity. I have never done the HCG tests before and am really exausted from this roller coaster ride they sent me on.:(:pray:

It sound like we are going thru similar situations. Please keep me posted. I am going in to the hospital tom to get another HCg test to check the levels. Won't be till noon Montana time.:pray: Will pray for you as well.

Hey Everyone, It turns out that I had an ectopic pregnancy. The doctor had to take my left tube out and he also took my appendix. It was 3 weeks ago today for the surgery. I had no idea that I had the baby in my tubes because everyone that i talk to said that it would hurt really bad. It didn't hurt at all. Anyway, I just thought I would let you guys know that.

I had posted on this forum when my bleeding first started, but have not been back. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. :cry:

I ended up having sugery on 7/31 for a tubal pregnancy. I have been reading non stop about Ectopic pregnancies looking for answers. It's very frustrating to be told that there appears to have been no known cause. Have you had your follow-up visit yet? I would love to talk to you via email when you have time.

I found out that I lost the baby.. blood work confirmed the loss today.

Just a quick question. How soon after bleeding is it ok to DTD again?. I had some bleeding Wed arvo, Dr thought I was miscarrying, but the scan the next day showed everything was ok and was probably just an implantation bleed. Should I wait a week, or does it not matter. Forgot to ask about this when I was at the hospital.

I am so glad I have found this thread, it has given me hope.

I will give you a brief update on what has been occuring for me lately.

We discovered that I was pregnant last week, even though my period wasn't due until yesterday. So excited, as this is our first baby together.

TMI alert:

Yesterday am ~ Brown, 'dirty' coloured mucous discharge. Only noticeable when wiping.
Yesterday pm ~ Bright blood, only noticeable when wiping.
Today ~ Still bright red blood, with very very small clots being passed, noticeable when wiping and on pad in very small amounts.

I am scared that this is the start of a m/c but DF is positive in that it is the type of bleeding that happens for many women during their first few weeks of pregnancy. I called the hospital but there is nothing they can do anyway, so have been asked to wait it out.

I have had no pg symptoms, but a little bit of nausea the past few days.

I hope all is ok, I guess I was just looking for reassurance, as I have been bleeding for over 24hrs now.

I wanted to share my experience over the last week, and I will update on the progress later in case it will help anyone else - sorry it's a bit long, but I know I wanted as much info as I could get - not just I started bleeding. Warning: TMI ahead (no way to talk about this stuff without it)

I ovulated on 8 September (I get pain for about an hour when I ovulate so I always know when it happens) - both sides this month, so possibility of twins. For about a week I started getting pregnancy symptoms - sore nipples (2dpo), extreme fatigue, nausea (9dpo), strange sensations in my lower tummy. My breasts also felt fuller. On Friday (13dpo) I did a hpt and got a positive (faint but there). I was so happy.

That night I woke up with bad cramps, low down in my tummy. I normally get cramps with my period, they seemed worse than normal but that could be because I usually take something for them and this time I didn't. They were enough to keep me awake, but not unbearable. I got up to check and I was bleeding. It wasn't heavier than a normal period, but it was not just spotting. Bright red and dark red blood - not old blood. If I hadn't had a positive I would have thought I'd got my period. The cramps stopped that night, but the bleeding has continued. Again, if it wasn't for the positive I would think it was a normal period. I usually use tampons, but haven't in case I'm still pregnant - so it's difficult to judge how different this is to what I normally experience in a period. There hasn't been that much blood on the pads - maybe enough to soak 1 or 2 pads per day. But when I go to the bathroom there is enough to need to wipe 3 or 4 times, and there is enough drippage (excuse the graphics, but there is no other way to describe it) to make the water in the toilet pinkish red. That carried on for 2 full days, and today it's much lighter. No blood on the pad, but still spotting fresh blood when I go to bathroom. I haven't passed any big clots. My period usually lasts 6 days, with the first 4 days being quite heavy (soaking 5 super plus tampons per day) the 5th day being lighter (soaking 4 regular tampons) and the last day just spotting (no tampon needed, just a pad). Today (day 3) is more like somewhere in between days 5 and 6 for me, so this is definately not a normal period. If it wasn't for that I would think that I got a false positive.

So I'm now wondering if I'm still pregnant. I have to wait till next Tuesday to see a doctor, they don't see me as a priority since I'm not bleeding heavily and nothing they do will make a difference to the outcome for the baby. The nausea and sore nipples stopped on that Friday. But my breast have gotten bigger - my bra doesn't fit, and it fit just fine last week. Other than that and the tiredness I have no symptoms of being pregnant (except of couse that I'm weepy - but I think that's more the dissapointment of the bleeding and getting over a broken heart but that's another story )

Anyone have a similar experience (having an almost normal period a couple of day late in the beginning) that turned out good? I would appreciate any advice, and I'll keep you posted on how things turn out for me.
