I would tell your friend, I'm sure she will be very understanding. I kind of went through the same thing when I miscarried as my sister in law is pregnant. I was so worried she would rub things in my face and she can be that type of person, but she actually said something to my husband (her brother) and was worried about upsetting me when she talked about her pregnancy. I told her it was ok, even though I kind of avoided her for a couple of days. I'm sure your friend will be sad for you, but I'm sure she's not going to make you feel bad.

i went through exactly the same as u b4 christmas,my best friend who is pregnant came with me to my scan and was very upset, she didnt show it infront of me, she did avoid me for a few days tho, cos she thought her being pregnant would upset me,bless her! its best to tell ur friend, she will want to be there for you.

Good to hear all your stories, some happy and some sad.
I have been bleeding for my whole pregnancy...now 6 weeks. At the start it was light and I thought it was a light period which I often get. However for the week it has been real bleeding that drips out when I go to the loo etc. I rang my OB and they tlold me to come in for 48 blood tests. I was expecting the worst but was 3500 for the first and over 7000 for the second which I did yesterday (Thursday). So now a little confused as my blood tests were good, but I have bleeding! I dont have any preg symptoms this time around and also no pain...hmmmm. wish I at least felt pregnant.
So after preparing myself for the worst yesterday where I expected my hcg levels to have decreased, I now feel a 'little' ray of hope. I have a scan at 8am on Monday morning, so will know by then I guess! NERVOUS. Def dont want a second miscarriage in 3 months!

Hi! Just thought I would share my stories - hope you don't mind!!

1st preg - slight bleeding weeks 6-8, all OK, healthy baby girl @ 42wks!
2nd Preg - heavy bleeding 5 wks, was at work (in hosp) went down to ED, told that since I was very early preg, was prob miscarrying and to come back for U'S in morning. When i went back for u/s, they could see a sac, no heartbeat, but lots of blood around baby. Was told I had a 30% chance of carrying baby any further. Continued to bleed off and on, went back for u/s 2 weeks later and all was good!!!! Healthy baby girl @41 wks!
3rd preg - had bleeding, thought was AF, but felt preg, so went for blood test. Came back neg, was really sick and was on ab's for severe chest infection. ALso had chest x-ray. Still felt preg, so did home preg test, came pack positive! Was an emotional wreck cause I had had the chest x-ray and heavy duty antibiotiucs, started bleeding quite heavy, went to Dr who said I was prob miscarrying from having the x-ray/radiation. Was devastated, went to anothe Dr who sent me for emergency U/S. According to my dates I should have been 5-6wks. Had u/s, was told during examination that I had had a compete miscarriage cause there was nothing in my uterus. Also had bloods to check my hcg. I was so devastated cause had been ttc for 6mths, I cried for days and we went away camping to get away from it all. Anyways, I kept bleeding and had to have more blood tests to make sure my hcg was dropping. Well it didn't, it was rising, so was told I most likely had an ectopic preg and rushed away for another emergency u/s. Well low and behold they found a baby!! In the right spot, hiding!! I was so amazed., along with the dr's and sonographer, I cried some mre!!!! But I was also angry at all I had been through, cause at my first u/s when they said I had had a complete loss, I felt rushed and she was quite rude cause they had to fit me in. But anyway, I had a beautiful baby boy at 38wks!!!

So, just goes to show, sometimes it ends good!

I am really sorry to read about all the losses in here though, my heart breaks for you, and I wish you all the luck in getting those bubbas to stick.

hi im not sure where to put this but i figured here is the best place,

my gf had just had her normal pill period about 15 days ago, and only now, eg last nite, she had noticed a bit of brownish blood discharge? i was wondering what that was, and thinking about the whole implantation bleeding and pregnancy it has got me concerned. any idea on what that represents. should b noted that she takes her pill everyday, always around the same time, However, lately she had been taking it 15 mins later for a week and on saturday about an hour earlier? would that make her have a slight breakthrough bleed?

we use condoms during sex, however every now and then, prob only a handful of times we dont start out using a condom, but end up putting one on during climax. She has continued her bleeding today, and it is again very light and faint, last nite it was a brown colour and was very light. She isnt in pain from what im aware and she has not skipped a pill since and always takes it within and around her regular time. She has been on the pill since june of 2007, and even before then she has been on it for the last 3 years with a 1 or 2 month break per year.

its just really worrying as its been 15 days since her period, or sugar pill withdrawal, and this has come out of nowhere. i heard implantation bleeding is very light, and either brownish or pinkish, this is light and brown, however from my understanding if you get your withdrawal period on the pill and you bleed it is highly unlikely , very unlikely to be pregnant as that is a sign of not being pregnant? is that correct.

You sound really worried, so I thought I'd let you know that I used to have breakthrough bleeding, or spotting, whilst on the pill. At first, I was worried, so contactd my GP. They tested me for chlamydia (negative), so I never really had an explaination for it. I was pregnant recently, and also had what could be described as implantation bleeding, but it was just normal spotting for me and I didnt worry too much. My best advice would be to ask your gf to see her GP just to check that everything is OK.

Hi Everyone. I am five weeks and five days pregnant. Last weekend I started having streaky mucous. Monday morning I woke up at about 5.30am in the morning with cramps (not severe but enough to make me uncomfortable) and I had light bleeding enough to stain a pad. The bleeding stopped Tuesday afternoon. I had a little bleeding around midday on Wednesday and since then the occasional bit of blood when I wipe. I have no idea if I am still pregnant. I haven't had a blood test yet, as when I went to the doctor last week I got a negative in his test ( drank too much water) and he said to wait a week before having my blood test. I have tested several times since then and got strong positives each time. I have no idea if I am still pregnant as I didn't have tender breasts and only slight nauseua. Though I can't seem to handle perfume any more. What do you think?

Go and have a blood test honey, waiting a week sounds absurd to me. They are more accurate then POS and will show you results now, doesn't make sense to me to wait a week. GL honey.

I meant to say that when I first went to the doctor (this is before the bleeding) he said to wait a week before having a blood test. However things have now changed since I had the bleeding. I am going to make an appointment to see the doctor tomorrow morning and go and get a blood test regardless I think.

Sorry the only reason I was saying that, was because my urine tests always came back at negative and the only way of confirming for accurately was a blood test.

The doctor said I should wait so I could allow the hormone to increase. He said to test mid week but I have been away on holiday so it wasn't possible.

You should be getting your hcg level rise evaluated. But you need a starting point, so a blood test to confirm pregnancy, see the level and do them every so many days after to see the levels rising. Hope I am making sense. That is why I don't understand the doctor saying to wait, cause atleast the first test would have shown you were pregnant and given you a starting point.

I know. I felt the same way but decided to wait. I wish I hadn't waited now.

Well I got my first test back today and it was a positive. I go back on Wednesday for another. My doctor said that it sounds like I am still pregnant because my bleeding was light and there was no clots. So fingers crossed.

GL Miss lightning. I feel for you. I have experienced bleeding in all of my pregnancies so far. I have regularly had HCG levels tested. They are a gr8 indication but you should not always accept because they re rising everything is ok. Lots of people have told me that and that scans are more accurate. But in my experience the HCG levels were always a good indication.

This is my history to date:

1st pregnancy - brown discharge - pregnancy ended in M/C (twins)
2nd pregnancy - brown and red discharge from 5-8 weeks, then started again at 11 weeks. At 11 1/2 weeks I woke in a pool of red blood and passed a clot the size of my palm and as thick as my thumb and I was cramping. I was in hospital for a couple of nights. This was my successful pregnancy. I stopped discharging at 15 weeks.
3rd pregnancy - no discharge until 8.5 weeks when I had a stab in my guts that took my breathe away and lasted for only a few seconds and I instantly started discharging brown (only slight) - pregnancy ended in M/C (twins)
4th pregnancy - I discharged brown and slight red from 5 to 9ish weeks and have been fine ever since and now I am 17 weeks pregnant.

So bascially all can be just fine, but it is very worrying all the same. GL with your next lot of levels. You are just looking for a nice rise, preferrably doubling every 48 hours.

Well I woke up this morning with a dull ache in my left side which has persisted all day. Then this afternoon I started light bleeding again. I mentioned the ache to my doctor he said to monitor it. I have another blood test tomorrow and then a doctors appointment on Thursday afternoon.

I had bright red bleeding (quite heavy too) for one night when I was 9 weeks PG with DD. I thought it was all over as I had a m/c the year before at 10 weeks so I thought it was all happening again!

Needless to say all turned out well & I have a healthy 2 1/2 yr old now.

I pray this will be the same for you.... all turning out well.

Hi everyone - I suffered from bleeding early on in my pregnancy. I was 8 weeks at the time, a quiet saturday afternoon, I started to get a little cramping which I ignored unitl it became more frequent and more severe in an hour or so. I felt a little uncomfortable and went to the bathroom notcing a large amount of blood, dark in colour. I alerted my fiance and he called for an ambulance. I was observed and checked over and monitored for a period of 9hours, they scanned me twice, the first time they could not see a heart beat...devastating!! The second scan, they found a heart beat and the baby finnnnnaaallllllllyyyyyyy appeared fine. The bleeding was left unexplained and I was given the all clear and continued with a healthy pregnancy. This incident was a huge wake up call to me though, from that day foward, I took extra care of myself and limited myself at work (i work in childcare so alot of lifting is involved...and alot of stress). I think I was trying to do too much. So to all of you preggy mummys...take it easy, accept help and do half of what you think you can do!!!!

Well, after more bleeding and then heavy bleeding and passing a large clot on Sunday, I am now at home on bed rest for the week. The scan showed the baby is doing great, though I have a clot, so just need to take it easy. 8 weeks on Saturday and cant wait for these next few weeks to fly past so that the baby is at less risk of the clot causing trouble. Argghhh.

Hi everyone, I am 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant I have had discolouration that has turned from dark to bright back to dark again, it is only when I wipe after the loo.
I have 3 children and 6MC's.

With DD 15 I had enough bleeding to believe that I had had a strange light period so had no idea until I was 3months that I was BFP, I continued to have spooting right through the pregnancy.

Next pregnancy no bleeding that I can recall, went for my 12 week US to find the baby had died and went on to have a D&C.

Next pregnancy blighted ovum, had spotting strecky discharge dark brown old, had a D&C at 8weeks.

Next pregnancy had light spotting various colours, went to my 12 weeks US to find the baby had died at 10 weeks went and had a D&C next day.

Pregnancy DS3 had spotting light bleeding all first trimester, OB gave us an equal chance of pregnancy continueing, as you can see he did. When he was born his placenta had extra lobes where it had torn away and reattatched itself. It is amazing how the body can repair itself.

Pregnancy DD2 I fell pregnant with DD when DS was 5 months old, not the plan!!! I had spotting/bleeding from the word go, but there was something inside me that knew the baby would make it. I had a US at 6.4 weeks showed bleeding, 8weeks showed the placenta had blood underneath it I was told to rest, difficult with a young baby. I went for my next US at 12 weeks a limited morf test was completed due to the large area of sub choronic hem. When I read the US report now they believed there was no way this baby was going to make it. I left the room so afraid, I was back at hospital ED at 14 weeks with severe cramping and blood loss, scan showed a baby who had a good HB and was active, I was told to go home and rest and come back at 17 weeks for another scan. Next scan showed that this massive tear had completely healed and I went on to have a hassle free pregnancy. Placenta had a huge extra lobe where it had regrown.

So in preparation for this pregnancy we went to see FS to determine if the same thing would happen again. In theroy there is no reason why it should although they did discover that my cycle was 21 days instead of 28 days, he felt sure that this was my problem and if we corrected that I would be OK!!!

Since then I have had 3 early MC's which have been put down to my age and the eggs being doodgey, which I accept is the case.
Now I find myself problem corrected pregnant with signs of bleeding. But feel that is a healthy one because I think I would have lost it by now, but vey uneasy about the signs of bleeding that I was sure I would'nt have this time. I have requested heaps of BT which have been increasing at a great rate, have had an early US which showed a sac and a baby measuring the correct size and I am on progesterone pessaries which are working well. I am a success story, but unable to relax because it is so easy for it all to go wrong. I feel I can't excerise, lift, DTD and it is a bit depressing I hope things go well but it is touture this waiting game. If things don't go well I definately will not be going back, it is way to hard emotionally and phyiscally. Sorry about th eessay but if someone finds something in this for them I will be very happy. I too have had a subchoronic haemaragghe (sub H) and he is my only surviving baby so far. From what I have read their are more good success stories out of Sub H then bad, amazingly. I woke in a pool of red blood at 11ish weeks and passed a clot the size of my palm and as thick as my thumb. All scans that I had prior to 11 weeks (4 I think) showed the sub H.

I understand you still being anxious, as really blood can and can't be good, but you can never 2nd guess your body unfortunately. I really hope this pregnancy for you is successful, I will be keeping you in my thoughts.

I had bleeding when i was 12 weeks. It happened after my partner and i had intercourse. I went to the bathroom and had 2 big gushes of blood and pain. I thought for sure i was having a m/c. My partner called an ambo he felt so bad he was blaming himself.We waited all night at the hospital holding hands hoping our baby was still alive.. til the morning we had an ultrasound and there was a heartbeat!!! : )

The pregnancy wasnt planned, and i still believe to this day, i had a decision wether i wanted the baby or not.... and i chose to... i wanted it so much...

My DS is now 6 months old. He makes me so so happy!!

Please be positive anyone who is bleeding...

Just a quick update. I had a scan today. They said I was four weeks and four days along instead of 6 weeks and 3 days as previously thought. My bleeding has got heavier. I went to the doctors who told me to go to hospital. They did another blood test and then checked my cervix, which is still closed. So I have to have another test on Wednesday unless the bleeding gets worse or cramping is bad. So still no answers at this stage.

Oh, hun. It sounds so stressful, not knowing what is going on. I hope that you have someone close to talk to and to look after you.

I hope everything turns out great for you. I had the same thing happen to me in two scans when I was pregnant back in december. I didn't think that much of it at the time, well deep down I did but I think I just chose to ignore it. Unfortunately I did end up having a miscarriage. I didn't want to tell you about my experience to scare you or anything. I have read so many situations that were similair to mine on this forum and alot of them have been quite encouraging, thats why I I keep up to date on how everyone is going. Its very comforting to read everyones situations even if they haven't turned out the for best cause then I realised I wasn't alone.

The bleeding you describe is frightning and no woman would be able to help stressing about it. I am also pregnant at 13 wks. with bleeding. However, Imagine the fright of bleeding so much that you fill up a toilet and a bath passing clots the size of your hand with 2 inch thickness, thinking you just had to of miscarried. Disbelief, an ultra sound shows the baby just fine, heartbeat and all..but....the placenta looks "funny". I lost a baby late Sept 07. He was 23wks old. They never could explain my bleeding then either. He was born alive and lived for 3 hrs on his own. They refused to transfer me or him, saying it would be useless. Had no neonatal unit. He died not because there was some defect in him, but because his lungs failed. I am amazed everyday of the technology and astounding scientific research but yet have wishy washy answers as to why a woman is bleeding. It is much more common that it used to be. Makes you wonder why, maybe the environment, smoking, diseases..who knows. but you would think you could get a good diagnosis or atleast a cause of death. Back to my current pregnancy, my bleeding episodes all the same, happened 3 times. Then suddenly when I turned 12 wks, it stopped. Havent had any so far, but I do have constant period like cramping. Ultra sound comes this coming wednesday. Since Drs know nothing, I have been forced to educate myself and do a bunch of researching as to why I bled so bad and why other women do to. My findings seem to be that most likely there are placenta problems and uterus issues. Heres the thing. I believe that is why it is so hit and miss with bleeding in women, and it varies. ALot of women bleed and go on successfully, I think that is probably because the placenta can heal itself given oppurtunity. Rest is important. NO lifting,)not even groceries. no walking for long periods of time. This is crucial in order to allow the healing to take place. I do realize that bleeding also happens for other reasons too. But from my findings placenta previa and abruption are the most likely ,which makes sense since blood vessels are involved. I am praying on this baby, because I would not be able to handle holding another baby dying in my arms. I thought sharing my story would help some women. Also, forgot to mention. My bleeding would only onset after sex, but I do not believe sex is what caused it because it was like my uterus was already full of blood and clots and the motion of sex just "released" it out. flushing me , if you will. Then after the blood and clots passed, I actually felt alot better , great really. My dr has me refrained from sexual activity and she too stated that she does not believe that sex is causing the problem but I must refrain to not jiggle or cause any movement that could be harmful, which also points the finger at "tearing away " the placenta. For some reason they dont want to tell you that. LIabilty on Drs has become so absurd they cannot even speak to us anymore. However, sexual activity may be the cause of bleeding in some women and usually causes no threat BUT can put you at higher risk for an incompetent cervix where when the baby would get heavy enough and the cervix just cannot handle it causing a premature birth. Abortions are also another cause for an incompetent cervix, and being that statistics show that on average every woman has had 3 abortions in her lifetime, I would say that this subject needs to be discussed and the light shined on knowledge needed for prevention. I have had 2 in my life , 1 I am happy about the other I hate myself for. But none the less, the damage they cause is real and may be another reason that women are having so many more complications and no one brings up this taboo subject.And or are ashamed , embarrassed to tell the Doc that they have had prior abortions. Abortion effects the uterus and the cervix. I am not posting this information to point fingers or scare anyone. I just am a big believer in getting it "out there" because I know somebody somewhere needs this information.

Haleyboper - wow everything you said is so so right. I too have had an abortion and really it is no different to a curette and I have had 2 of those also. I had bleeding like you described with your current pregnancy and the clotting you were talking about. I woke in a pool of red blood and passed a clot the size of my palm and as thick as my thumb. That was at 11ish weeks and the size of it you would have sworn was the size of the baby, but nope a scan showed all was well and now I have a very active 20mth old. Truely amazing. But that is what the gyno said to me at the time, is that I had an early placental abruption was put on bed rest. I am truely believe that is the only reason my son is here today. You are right the placenta tore away and healed itself but only with rest and lots of it. I also think I had a subchoronic haemorraghe inside my uterus, which showed on most scans (but small). Have they ever suggested anything like that to you. I sooo hope this pregnancy is successful for you and I am sorry to hear about your child who died at 23 weeks. What a terrible thing to go through.

I have had bleeding in all of my pregnancies so far but nothing to the extent of my surviving child.

Haleybooper, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your son. I can't believe they would'nt give him the chance, the youngest baby to make it recently was 21 weeks!!!!! Thanks so much for your words of wisdom, you are right it is all such a taboo subject and a baby although real to us as mothers is only another number to those in the medical field or so it seems. I too have done a lot of homework and agree with you entirely, there is bleeding that is related to other things but the bleeding asscoiated with sub H is completely unrelated to the health and viability of the baby but at the same time effects it completely given it is it's lifeline. I have spent half a day at emergency today, I have a healthy baby with a HB of 150BPM but may well lose this little one due to the large bleed currently showing on the US, I find it so devestating that an otherwise healthy baby could be lost to a problem with me???? I have had 3 D&C and as mentioned there is no difference between the effects of that and abortion, I wonder how much that has contibuted to my problems. Anyway DH and I are no faced with what to do next does he stop work for the time being to give me the break and the rest that I need, can we afford to take the risk that he loses his job, does it even mean if we do that we will be able to save this precious little one? Who knows we need to talk more about it, in the meantime thanks for the thoughts /advice.

Thank you for your warm embraces and kind words. Yes I am still getting over losing my son. He was due now. I think the worse part of it is that I feel I must diagnose myself because I cannot trust a Dr to do it for me. Its almost like, well is my cervix incompetent and signaling the placenta to fall apart or is it the other way around. I forgot to mention that my son was delivered full sac in tac and the entire placenta was attached to it, but still no one could say what happened first, cervix vs placenta.

No, they have never mentioned the subchronic H to me, the words were only that the placenta looked funny as if the blood vessels were kinda hanging down and around. Its so weird because everytime I had a bleeding episode like that, I didnt feel pregnant anymore or swore my stomach changed , or couldnt feel the baby there. I feel that way now, I will find out tomorrow. Ive been wrong every time before. I think I trick myself. Congrats on 20wks. Just stay resting, I wouldnt take any chances. I believe I lost my son because I was over worked and doing to much. Plus ,I was being very stupid and I smoked while pregnant as well. It was so hard to quit , I tried and tried but couldn't , it seemed worse while pregnant! Everyone kept saying the smoking didnt matter , that it was unrelated. That may be true because after my son died it was easy to quit with this pregnancy and I mean I quit totally. But yet, still having the same problems. But the warning on the label isnt on there for nothing. I blame myself. I am 34 by the way , my husband and I do not have any of our own children. I did have one successful pregnancy with my ex when I was 28. I did not bleed at all with her. My husband and I want so badly to have our own child together.

BlackDuckies~~you as well I thank for talking with me and sharing your story. The ER room is a nightmare and I feel sorry that you had to even go there. SLOOOOW. Im not going to tell you not to worry about the bleeding, because you should but not to the point where you are sure the baby will pass. What you seriously need to do is bed rest, it is the only thing and best thing available. There are no cures, no medications that help our issue. I know bed rest has helped me feel alot better, my problem was refraining from sexual activity. Its very hard for my husband and I. First ,just because of all the horrible things we have had happen to us #2 we are very attracted to each other & its a stress reliever and helps us stay close to each other. But now hes so scared he doesnt even want to touch me , and then since the bleeding and cramping always followed sex and or orgasim ,I woke up too. I think all couples are like that and when you feel fat and moody some women may feel like they must have sex with their partner to avoid him straying from them. Not worth the risk though and there are other ways to help him out LOL. You said you were thinking of having your husband stay home with you to help you. I do understand that , and it would be great if people could afford to do that. Mine cant, we totally depend on his income 100%. However, if you are able to stay home while he works, do you have some friends or relatives that can stop by every now and then to help pick up the house and cook some meals? Reach out for help dont feel bad asking people to help you.I mean really, just let the house go, who cares. Do minimum to get by. lay and sleep alot. Beef up the folic acid and vitamins that heal tissue, drink lots of water and lay down. If you can get this to heal, the bed rest may not have to last the entire time. If you do have a job maybe you can get disability with it, because I am here to tell you that if any one here has a Dr that tells you the bleeding isnt enough reason to be put up on bed rest...GET ANOTHER DR.

haley, thanks I spent the day thinking about how to rest. I don't work, I nearly wish I did it may be easier. I have booked the kids in for 2 half days of care and I will see if mum and dad will pick them up and have the rest of one day. Dh is going to take a day off work a week and I am trying to think of activities for the kids that involve me just watching!!! Unfortunately relatives and friends are out of the ? this decision of ours is not widely supported and people think we are nuts and maybe this is supposed to happen. I have a friend who said she would have the kids sometimes but she has 2 little ones of her own it may just be too hard. We don't have sex, just because of the risk, warned of it with DS 3, mainly the first trimeseter, but I think with this one it will carry on through for longer. Meals are going to be quick 5 minute jobs as easy as possible. I am seeing a homeopath today to see if she can get me onto something that might help.

I am currently undergoing my first IVF cycle and am not due for my pregnancy test until mon 11th feb but today experienced bright red 'wipes' and mild cramps. Just wondering if anyone has had this and if it sounds like an inplantation bleed?:cry::(:(
