I'll have 1/2 a glass of red wine on a special occasion - like at Xmas & our wedding anniversary (and it takes me all night to drink it, lol). But no more than that - well except the other day when it was really hot and DH cracked a beer and I really felt like some... weird as I don't like beer! I had about 4 mouthfuls and was done.
Yes I did! I occasionally had a glass of champagne if out at a dinner party; I just drank it super slowly and had lots of water with it. And I always chose a fancy one - after all it was my one cherished glass! I also occasionally had half a glass of beer with hubby at home.
Thanks again everyone.
Its so good to see so many mixed answers and we all have our reasons for drinking or not. I would never judge unless it was a bottle a day kind of thing! ;)
I'm not going to get in to the whys and what fors but I drank heavily during my 3rd pregnancy.
Yes, I did. Not until after bub was at about 26wks gestation and only 1-2 standard drinks at a time. Never usually more than once or twice a week, if at all. I'm not much of a drinker normally anyway, but when I am pg, I seem to crave the taste of alcohol, particularly a nice cold beer!
Mmmm, I might have to have a beer tonight, it's been a while!
i did with DS i had tequila 2 days before my wedding and vodka on my wedding and a jack daniels slushie at summernats around 18-20 weeks preg
with DD i had margharitas at my mums birthday party
and its pretty much all i drank in the last 3 yrs i drink on special occasions anyway
I didn't drink throughout my pg, I am not much of a drinker anyway do it didn't phase me. Only had one drink while BFing and that was Xmas eve last year as IL opened a really expensive french champagne and poured me a glass and I felt really guilty to waste it do had about half a glass. It was also the first time if had French champagne !

I had about a glass a week ...
Ummmm how about a picollo of bubbles! I had a couple of those.
Tinks, as you said there were reasons and your baby was fine and has grown up lovely
What an honest thread :)
I got blotto with pregnancy #1 and #3 before I knew I was pregnant, both were unplanned. I didn't find out until around week 6-7 with this one so I had a few drinks again before I knew. Ever since, and in this pregnancy only, I have had a little just once. I know they all say that no level is safe as they just don't know, but my midwife said an occasional glass of bubbly is okay (dont like it though lol) and a friend of mine who also got pregnant after a big night out said she was so paranoid that she did loads of research, and found out that particularly in the early weeks when the baby is in it's little 'bubble' and more supporting itself, its not so bad because its more protected being more of a separate entity. The placenta takes over around week 10 so I guess where they are getting this from? But I guess it makes sense and it is VERY common for this to happen.
I had quite a few 2 days before I found out I was pregnant (surprise) and I had 1 glass of wine at a family do the whole pregnancy and even then I felt bad.
Since developing and recovering from panic disorder I don't drink. I'll have one very occasionally even at my wedding I had only a single sip of wine. So next time I won't. I'm another who is working so hard to fall pregnant that I feel guilty about my every day meds let alone something I can control.

Actually the interesting thing in the article that was posted is that no FAS was found in any babies where the mother drank less than 8.5 standard drinks a week and that FAS was only found in the babies of alcoholics - plus babies born to mothers who drank moderately performed better than those who didn't on cognitive and behavioural measures later in life. Maybe that Guinness did do some good and the cravings were there for a reason :dunno:
None while pregnant. The odd one when bf'ing
No haven't had any alcohol at all during the pregnancy, only a couple weeks left now so should make it to the end :P Am looking forward to the occasional cider once bubs is out!
Dont want any flack, but yes I drank during my pregnancies. a glass of wine here and there or a glass of beer. 1 of my friends, said her mum was ok to drink cause its got vitamin B in it lol I didnt drink alot but sometimes u need it. I know a couple who did everything by the book and had a child that is challenged and I know a drug addict whos child is fine. Im not saying do drugs or get ****ed, but I think some of it is left to fate alittle. Each women will do what she does and she knows if its harm or not for her.
I was super paranoid about that kind of thing, I didn't drink in the 5 months we were TTC, all through the pregnancy and then BF as well! Lol. In hindsight, maybe not necessary. This time I had the occasional drink when TTC, but now that I'm pg, I won't. But like others have said, I'm not a big drinker anyway, so it's not a big deal and I don't miss it.
I guess nobody knows what harm it might do, but I don't want to take any chances.
