    Default Exercise during pregnancy

Hi ladies, I just came back from a bike ride, and it got me thinking, what other forms of exercise can I do and until what stage? I do walk, but I hate it, I like bike riding, and I also like swimming. I'm 23 weeks now, but I think safety will be an issue shortly with the bike riding.

So, what did you/do you do, and when did you stop or when are you planning to stop exercising?

    Thanks xox

I've been told no bike riding, in case you fall. (And promptly ignored that "advice".) Riding is out too, as horses are a little more tempremental than bikes.

Walking, swimming and gentle antenatal yoga are it. Unless you were very active before, in which case you can do your old exercise, but modified and toned down.

I won't give my opinion or say what I do lest I get others into trouble for copying me!

    Thanks Ca Plane and Astrolady.

I just read the article, and interestingly enough, bike riding is one of the suggested exercises! Before I was pregnant, I did bike ride a lot, and a lot harder, so now I'm not going as far or as fast. I also walked/ran, but only walk now. I was swimming initially, but then picked up a few more days at work, so that fell by the way side. I still have some visits left on my pass card, so will hit the pool again at some stage. I'm not really one for pliates and yoga etc, lol!

I'm surprised there wasn't more replies to this thread, is no one else exercising?!? I must admit with my first pregnancy, I didn't exercise after 8 weeks, and I put on a ridiculous amount of weight, so doing my best to avoid that this time!

I think I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing, and as the article suggests, listen to my body. I'll stop riding when it's no longer comfortable, and when I stop feeling safe. Then I'll just have to concentrate on walking, blergh!

Would still love to hear what anyone else is getting up to?

    Xo

I haven't been able to exercise since 7 weeks to extreme all day sickness for the first 22 weeks than meant I could barely stand up, let alone exercise
I walk a fair bit now, and am on my feet a lot for work.
I would have kept playing netball until about 12-14 weeks if I hadn't been so sick. I played in our grand final at 7 weeks and almost passed out cause of the nausea so figured it was time to stop.
I'm not one to go swimming, so I'll stick to my walking.
I've put on 5kg this pregnancy and am almost 37 weeks so I'm not too fussed about it.
I have massive food aversions when pregnant, especially to anything sweet or rich so I don't have to worry too much about extra weight from over eating.
I've always been told if you were doing it before you were pregnant it's okay to continue when you get pregnant.
With my last DD I was still horse riding for the first few months too, but obviously it's a matter of safety in the end.

I don't exercise at any time hahaha, but my step sister did play netball for the state well into her 7mth of pregnancy. She was comfortable doing it so continued to do so.

Bike riding later on is only recommended on a stationary bike (like in the gym), so you get the exercise without the risk of falling!

Can't really help with other suggestions. I personally walked and did yoga, as those are my faves! ;-)

I exercised as morning sickness allowed throughout my pregnancies. With my first, that was only walking. But after that I'd joined a gym, so with pregnancies 2 and 3, I just kept doing what I'd do at the gym. Low impact aerobics classes, body pump classes, using weights machines. I kept going until about 37 weeks, when I felt I needed to rest more.

I stopped doing step classes as I'm a bit unco at the best of times and I didn't want to fall off the step.

FYI, I am not very fit at all, I am actually obese and I gained pregnancy weight (and didn't lose it! LOL). But it felt good and I enjoyed it.

I'm swimming now, plus walking and running, I also cycle, dance, some belly dancing and climb a lot of stairs several times a day with work.

But I don't "exercise". I just live life and enjoy activities. As and when I want. Apart from the stairs at work.

Ive stopped running, after 2 MCs in a row, but will keep doing pump and zumba and swimming, plus I work in a physical job, until I feel I need to rest.
This will be my third earthside child and Im only 1/4 of the way there, and really feeling it already!

Hi, I'm so glad I found this thread. I'm pg with my first and have been wondering what I can do. I have to go back to the doc tomorrow and have another BT as I'm only just 5 weeks and the first BT was just confirm my pos HPT. I was going to talk to him about what I could do. I have been lifting big weights, and doing lots of cardio, so will see what he recommends
