Im a -ve blood group and had 2x blood transfusions AFTER the birth of DD#1.....

Ali, I got sent one of those cards during or after my last pg, even though I have always known what blood type I was. It was something Mum made sure that my Bro and I knew.

i know O-neg is meant to be the least common blood type, but my whole family is O-neg! (me, my brother, my late sister, Mum, Dad, Dad's new wife even, and Steph!) Still don't know what the Man is though :doh:

We should all make sure that when we are not pregnant that we donate some blood. I have never doen it before but after all this it makes me think what if I needed to get a blood transfusion?? Anybody can take O neg blood as it is universal but we can only take O neg blood if we need a transfusion and nothing else. Makes you think hey..

One thing that a lot of people have said to me (and I dont know if it is true or not - it may just be the ppl I have spoken to) but I have heard that a lot of babies of Rh neg mums have babies with jaundice. Is this true of anyone on here??

Netix- Could you asked your mans mum what he is. She might know. That is how I found out what DP was.

Netix - would DH consider donating blood? If he does red cross will send him a donor card with his blood type. if he is negative then you dont need to have anti d

I asked the Man's Mum and Dad what type he is, but neither of them were able to tell me (Mum couldn't remember, Dad didnt know). Not sure I understand how you can forget what blood type your own child is? All the Man knows is that he was what was called then a "blue baby".

I would love to donate blood, and I think that would be my ultimate goal of getting past my fear of needles. If I could sit with a needle in me for more than just a few seconds, I will do it. When I was pg with Steph, my Dad actually volunteered to me that if I needed a transfusion that he would gladly give it up for me. I asked the nurse at pathology, and they said it would just go about the way it usually happens, donate, screen or whatever then donation to whoever. My Dad said that O-neg ppl make up only about 5% (I am sure that was the figure, but I could be wrong, so don't quote me on it!) of the population, and our family seems to be it!

I have no idea how the Man feels about it.

Steph wasn't jaundiced, but I don't know of any others to speak of.

O neg here and had a Jaundice baby - under the lights for 48-72 hours - he is a + blood type so we don't mix - but he was also born early so that may have contributed to the jaundice also....who knows thank God it's all gone now though

I am A- and bubs was A+. All went well but he was a little jaundice for a week or so. No transfusions needed! Donating blood for yourself would be a great idea tho if you are concerned!

I am A-, don't know what DP or Noah is. Never had transfusion but have had anti-d after miscarriages and with my pregnancies. Noah had a little jaundice but only for a week and never got below his belly button. I did keep him in the window to get sunlight for 30 mins a day though so that might have helped.

Actually, you don't NEED this injection just because you're -ve and baby is +ve. HUGE misconception. I had NO antibodies against rhesus factor in my blood, the tests showed that. But I got an injection I said I didn't want anyway.

And other babies? I'm not having another baby. So REALLY pointless injection for me. If all it does is mean I may have another baby then why give it to someone who isn't having another baby?

Hi there, I am O- and had anti d heaps of times, after 6 miscarriages, during 2 pregnancies and after the birth of my 2 children and will for this pregnancy and birth too.
I guess anything you put into your body we should be really aware about but I just trusted the doctors and had the needles. I will again too, might aswell seeing as Ive done it that many times before.
Never had a transfusion though, and neither of my children were jaundice.
