I tried to do it myself, but couldn't tell which way the ring was swinging because it was kind of moving towards me (if you get what I mean).
I'm ok with it though as I wasn't taking it very seriously and I don't think fate wants me to know what I'm having before the birth!
Guess I'll just have to wait and see!
-
I have tried this earlier in my pregnancy and it neither circled or swinged (is that a word?) It just rocked a little bit then stopped. Maybe I didn't do it right. I'm going to try it again.
-
Nettie - Try with a needle and thread to maybe see the direction a bit more clearly.
Danniellabella - Give it a bit of time hovering above your tummy even if its not completely still, until it slowly starts moving like a magnet is controlling it in a definite direction...its strange and fun.
-
Did the ring test a couple of weeks ago and just found out the sex yesterday via U/S.
The ring's movements were very clear but as it turns out it was wrong.
-
Do you put the ring through the string or do you tie the string to the ring?
-
Danni - String through the ring or the eye of the needle, no tying....you can use a strand of your hair(if long enough) with the ring to really go traditional. I have done it every which way and the results are always the same.
Principessa76 - Shame it didn't work this time....all just good fun anyway. Congratulations either way!! BTW sometimes even U/S are wrong too. I know some one who was told girl (had all pink stuff ready) and had a lovely boy HEHE. I've heard of the opposite too where someone is told boy and a pink princess comes out ;)

wow i did this with my partner and it came up doin circles... so does that mean im havin a girl???

Hi ladies,
my mum always used to do the ring test when we were young, she has 7 girls and 1 boy and also a loss and the ring shows every one in order....
I always done it with a result of boy, boy, girl...we had the boys then I had my tubes tied. I had a reversal in June 06 and fell pregnant in Sept 07 but unfortunately miscarried in Nov.. a few days later done the test and it now indicates boy, boy, girl, girl. You can imagine how much it freaked me out !!!!
I dont know if it is just superstition and I dont rely on it but it makes me feel a little better and gives me hope for the future. And its a bit of fun.
I always let it do its thing for a bit then hold it in my fist then let it go again and so forth untill it stops. Ive heard if it does both directions (undecided) its twins !!

hi there! i am really interested in doing this test and we are very curious as to what we might be having this time, even tho i am only 4-5 weeks pregnant, do i have to be a certain amount of weeks along or can i test now? also do i have to use a wedding ring (as i am yet to have one!!) or can i just use one of my other rings? and also do i just use string or cotton? please all the specifics if anyone can just so i can do it as accurately as possible!!
Thanks a lot xo

Hi... This is an interesting thread. I couldn't wait to try it.
I used my wedding band with a peice of my hair. Firstly I placed the ring on my wrist, lifted it, and it went in a straight line, for ages too, then it slowed down & started circling then it slowed down & finally stopped. It did this numerous times & got the same response. I also did what Cheryl said & placed it back onto my wrist between each swing & still got the same response. Boy then girl then nothing. I also placed it over my belly (I am 4-5weeks pregnant), the first time in showed both a straight line, then a circle, then a straight then circle and so forth. I took time out to teach it yes & no, then asked if I was having twins. It said yes at first, then the following 4 times it said no. I then put it over my tummy again, and it showed Boy (straight line). I repeated this numberous times & it continued to show boy. So it looks like i'm having a boy then girl. Yay... Perfect.

I used to watch my mum and her friends do this test all the time. I am one of nine kids and it was so amazing to watch my mum do this on herself. It would go through all of us kids then stop dead! When my older sisters started having babies, there we were, back around the kitchen table. All came true too. One day we tried it on my neice and it did nothing, she was mortified but then we realised she hadn't even had AF yet! She did it years later and has come true so far. It has been correct for me too. It is amazing how it doesn't work over your tummy if you aren't currently preg.
mumisabella - I have used all sorts of rings and I can even remember my mum using a sewing needle once! You can use hair or cotton.

Hi ladies,
my mum always used to do this test when we were small also, as I mentioned in an earlier post I lost my little one at 9 weeks in Nov and a few days later I done the test and it showed an extra girl...
AF is due today for me and Ive been doing the test over the last couple of days over my tummy and its saying boy girl back and forth very quickly (my DH is gonna read this and think I`m nuts!)
does this mean twins? and does it really not work if you are not pg ? dont want to get my hopes up on a wives tale. I try not to take it to seriously but Im a bit obsessed.
-
onemore - I did notice that when I was trying to fall pg with my DS it would sometimes move when I was close to being due for AF, then a week later, obviously not being pg it would be still again. This was over my tummy by the way. It should always work on your palm. But you are right, it is an old wives tale. You might be better of doing a proper test if AF is due today. Good luck!!!

I just tried this with my hair and wedding ring, i got circles, then up and down then circles again.
Does this mean girl, boy ,girl.?
I have my scan on wednesday and am hoping to find out the sex then.
-
Hi tan, yea thats meant to be the way it goes. So you have the girl boy so far it will be interesting to see if your scan is the same..
Olimoo- yea Ive been doing it over my tummy and it goes both ways, when I do it over my palm/wrist it goes through the whole process boy, boy, girl, then sort of confused circle then straight without stopping. Maybe its telling me what will be eventually...
I just feel like everytime AF comes its a reminder of what could have been if I had`nt miscarried.
makes it all real again.. sorry for rambling
-
Ooh, this is interesting that it seems to actually work!!
I did it over my hand and it says girl, boy, boy, girl. Yay! Perfect!
Then I did it over my tummy and it said girl (I'm 7DPO today). Jeez, I hope it's right!!
-
i have been testing this theory out this morning and have used a piece of my hair and just one of my rings. well over my wrist it says girl, girl, boy and then another girl i think. i got tired so i stopped so not sure if nemore are coming after- i hope so, the more the betta!! i gather that the 1st girl was my Isabella that i lost last year, so i tested it over my belly and it starts off back and forth (boy) for a short time and then goes into circular movements (girl) for a long time. so maybe twins?? but the boy doesnt swing for long so maybe its just getting warmed up! neways, it has been the same each time i test so who knows!! i will be happy as long as my bub is healthy and my pregnancy goes well with no complications. i guess its just good fun isnt it!!
