    Zumba while pregnant

Any pregnant ladies doing Zumba? I have started back at Zumba now that I am in the 2nd trimester, and I mainly do the low impact options. However its so easy to get carried away and forget that you are pregnant...oops. I'm just worried about the affect it could have on the baby, if any?

I have not done Zumba but did intend to exercise all through my last pregnancy (the tiredness put a stop to that) and the advice I was given was:

keep an eye on your heartrate, don't let it get too fast. Check with your GP the safe level and wear an arm heartrate monitor if you need to so you rest if it gets too high.
    no situps
no aggressive classes like boxing, as this will flood your baby with adrenaline which will apparently give you an angry child

other than that, Zumba sounds great so have heaps of fun!

I am still exercising while pregnant and this is the advice I have:

    - don't do anything extra that you weren't doing before pregnancy
    - make sure your body temperature doesn't get too high
    - make sure your heart rate doesn't get too high
    - no ab exercises
    - no lifting weights above your head
    - no twisting motions across the abdominal area
    - don't do anything else that makes you sore or uncomfortable

I also have a preference for the low impact options as all the bouncing around is uncomfortable and makes me need to go to the toilet! (once before, once during and once after yesterday's class!!!)

I haven't much idea what Zumba involves, so maybe think about the above and see whether it applies. Also make sure you tell your instructor (is there one??) that you are pregnant - preferably go in early and get them to explain to you alternatives, where some exercises aren't appropriate.

Would my body let me know if it wasnt right? Would I have bleeding etc? I sound so paranoid haha!!

I have spoken to the instructor who said no worries its fine to do zumba, but just do the low impact options, no jumping, just step it out sort of thing. So I keep that in mind, but get so carried away next thing I notice I'm probably putting in too much effort iykwim. I drink plenty of water throughout as well. As for the heart rate, I try to keep it down (almost impossible!) but I did read somewhere online the other day that the getting your heart rate above 140 thing hasnt been proven????

I love zumba I am just such a worry wort, & we have wanted this baby for ages so I would hate to do anything that could be affecting it.

    !
Seriously??? That's insane!!! I've never heard anything like that before...who told you that pmsl. Crap my kids are going to be seriously angry adults then...wonder why they never warned us in Body Combat training!!!

Hun, first step...Dr, just to make sure you have no contraindications to anything. Then tell your instructor (every instructor if it changes). Make sure you don't get breathless or overheat, keep a sugary snack nearby incase you get lightheaded and drink plenty of water.

Generally if you've been doing something before you were pregnant then you can carry on as long as you modify it. If you are having a healthy pregnancy then there is no reason to cut out exercise you love

it was my personal trainer, but it made sense to me so I was happy to stop body attack. It was irrelevant anyway, the exhaustion kicked in week 6 and I barely left the couch from then until I gave birth

Haha, Body Attack isn't even agressive it's 80's style aerobics! Too funny, it amazes me what PTs will say to keep their clients from realising the results they can get from Group X!! I was like that with Cycle though..."Oh really i'm pregnant...bye bye cycle!!!"
