Parenting after LT TTC #3

Neptune: We have a high chair that reclines slightly but haven't used that, I have been using her bouncer so she is not quite sitting upright but still sitting up enough to eat.

Back from Mothers Group and weigh in, Tara is now 6.455kg's and 62 cm long. She is now more than double her birth weight (by .055grams) and is above average in weight & height and way above average in head size... I keep telling DH I am not going to put headbands on or ribbons in her hair as it will just make her head look even bigger and I was right she has lots of brains in there :lol:

Yay, go Tara, grow grow grow! Adam was 7.8kg last week :redface::redface:

E got weighed yesterday on mum and dad's scales - she is around 9.2kg now - not bad at 8.5 months!

God BG, Adam will probably be that weight at 5 months!!!!

No-body has been more shocked than me Marcellus :lol: However, in Adam's defence, he was huge at birth 4.47kg and was off the percentile charts, but now he is in the 90th percentile, so believe it or not, I think he is slowing down!!

That's a good birth weight! A was only 4.29kg, but dropped like a stone on those charts after birth. I just had a really awesome placenta :D

E was a dainty poppet til she started solids at 6 months - actually, until the reflux started to settle around 7 months - now she is putting weight on at a great rate - i'm happy - she is a lovely littlle chubba bubba, ave height, 75th percentile weight - and massive head (just like mummy and daddy!)

she loves her solids - but refuses mush! will have yogurt but refuses mashed veg at all. i think i'd get shot down in flames if i tried rice cereal or food from a jar! love that she is little miss independent though - today we all had toasted sandwiches for lunch - makes it so easy that we all eat the same...

is hot here today - migth put her chubby little butt in the pool later i think

That's good BG - mashing and pureeing is a pain anyway.

Geez Neptune, Adam is one huge bubba... You must have the strongest biceps carrying him around.

I was just wrapped that Tara has put on some more weight as the MCHN has been a bit critical of me as she was only having 3 bottles a day, but what I could I do I can't force her to have more than she wants. Although she seemed happier today when I told her that Tara is now having a small bottle after she has her solids (although she then won't have a full bottle later on, so she still has the same quantity).

BG: I've been trying Tara on the pre made stuff to see how she went with all the new flavours. I didn't want to purchase a whole heap of stuff to find out she wasn't ready, although I gave her Rafferty's Garden Pear, Banana and Mango today (first time) and she scoffed about 50mls in no time so obviously she likes that one. I'm going to give it a couple more weeks then start trying with the potato, pumpkin and sweet potato. How cool though that E will eat what you have, it must be so much easier to plan meals when you don't have to do seperate meals for her and then you and DH.

Now working out the percentiles, Weight: 75th, Height: 75th, Head: 90th, yep that's one big scone...

don't worry Kelly - E is 50th for height, 75th for weight, 97th (or above) for her boof head! but she is just perfect anyway!

the eating thing is so much easier on us - except when people assume, becuase she is a baby, that she needs mush (even when you say no) and then they mash her veg and take it personally that she won't eat it! the only thing we've had that she didn't like much was mum's shepherds pie - i don't think she liked the consistency of the meat (it was ground up leftovers, but not much gravy on it) - so she ditche that and had curried pasta instead! i may try her on something like egg custard in a tin eventually, just so i can have something in her bag in case we're out and she eats all of the other food (can't exactly keep yogurt in there!) - but i'm not phased if she never has tin stuff. it is working for us... i know my sil used a mix of fresh and tinned stuff. i guess the only thing i'd suggest is, if you have bubba that likes tin stuff, try to intruduce stuff with more texture (roughly mashed rather than pureed) sooner rather than later - from what she said, her first took a lot more to eat other stuff as she just wanted puree cos it was easy...


sigh - i love my girl! i went to bed with a migraine earlier - she slept for me - the whole time - through a mammoth thunderstorm and everything!

BG: Thanks for the advice re: introducing the textures. I might try that when I start with the veggies as I can puree them down to a consitency that I think will work. I have already started making her rice cereal thicker as she is having thickened formula she assumed the more runnier cereal was a bottle.

she is very in touch with my emotions - which is mostly good - except at times when i'm not in a good headspace - she seems to want to be velcro at those times. at the moment, it's pretty full on after a death in the family - but it will get better. she is fine while DH is home to share the attention, but i think i'm not feeling as patient and she is more needing me and the reassurance

I lost my entire post today. I was so ripped off because Jasmine was having the best after breaky sleep that went from 9.00 til 1.00pm. I don't know where that came from, she wasn't sick or anything just slept (like a baby). So there I was writing a record holding long leisurely post and I was banging on to KellyD about how the hearing aids are a waste of time and how no one from the therapy programs has been back in touch and it's all a bit frustrating as the cochlears have to be done before she turns 12 months, and you wouldn't believe it, the phone rang and I was put on a conference call with 4 people who are coordinating all the interviews and arranging meetings with all the relevant people to get the ball rolling on cochlear implants and therapy.. Half an hour later, I get back to my almost finished BB novel and wouldn't you know...the Gremlins ate it:wall:.

So the news onthe cochlears is that we are now looking at having them done before 7 months old if all the pre tests and screens show she is compatible, so it's action stations now. we have to have all our appointments in Brisbane so that's going to be a bit of air and car travel and we have to have all the ground work done, like CT scans, MRI scans (under general anaesthetic) before the implants, which all is done in Brisbane:o:o Wow! I feel like the White Rabbit now.

Greenslw: yep, he's deadly serious about the job on Kangaroo Island . this is a real springboard inthe beginning of his new career as a wildlife biologist if he gets it. Of course, if I said, lets not do this because it's going to break my heart to be so far from my family, he would think that's perfectly reasonable and would pull out, but we have always worked as a team and this is one of those things that is too great an opportunity to miss out on. He is so nervous, I had to pull out a few flippin swear words to get him to settle down this morning. He put my flippin butter and bread away 3 times in the space it took me to toast my bread. Anyone would think he was pregnant...haha, didn't you put your mail in the toaster??? Well i called DH a feckin eedgit and I think that cleared things up. It's those loving supportive words that get us through:lol:

BG: Sorry to hear that you are dealing with a loss in the family and it's impacting on Emerald. I hope that everything is back in balance for you all soon.

I can't do my long ramble that I wanted to cos I gotta take DH to the airport tomorrow and gotta catch some zzzzzs. He is taking the internet connection with him...booo! So for those of you who know me, that's no man, no internet and no T.V!!!!!!! Is this the Armagedon???

P.S just to add to your brag file on baby weights...oh dear, mine is a wee bit :redface: I sometimes feel that I should be in the premmie thread when you girls do your comparisons...Jazzy is now on the chart for weight and is in the bottom 3rd percentile:o :dance: She is perfectly happy and never loses weight and she is now measuring 59cm so she is getting to be long and lean. Her head has always been in the 50th and length as well, and weight was so far off teh chart it didn't rate, so big sheers for 3rd percentile and 4.47kilos (last week).

Neptune, it's never lost on me that that was Adam's weight born and now Jazz is 14 weeks. she was only 2 weeks early so my placenta wasn't in great shape like yours.

I said heaps more before but have to say it another time and will miss you for three whole days...

oh BG you are so very lucky that Miss E enjoys food. As Lyla goes to childcare during the day, I have no idea how the carer go about in feeding her. From what I gathered the carer tries very hard to make sure Lyla eats at least 2/3 of what I prepared her even though I stress that I am not concern if she doesn't eat as long as she gets to experience the food.

I am currently very torn between giving her full on non-mushed food vs semi-mushed food. Non-mushed means she would have to feed herself but I don't think the carer would cope very well with this as it is very messy and time consuming which the carer does not have time to clean as well as monitor her eating.

Oh, how do you increase the "chunkiness" of the food. I waited for Lyla to show me signs that she prefers chunkier food and so far she likes avocado mashed or whole. I gave her whole pieces of fruits, paw paw, mango, peach, figs( fresh and she doesn't like cos it has seeds) and she would bite and chew but most of the food would be spilling out of her mouth. Does that mean she is not ready for chunky food?

Kelly, Lyla's poo were runny prior to solid but once she went on solid she swings the other way - got constipated. Just so if Tara is the same, give her plenty of peach and pear (this means introduce these food early) as they do relieve constipation. I now give Lyla prune juice and she is doing well in the poo department. I feel rather guilty as I have no idea how to make prune juice so bought it pre-made in the shops. Do you think that's o.k.? I diluted it as well.

Kahlan, we just gave A chunks from the start. He didn't eat much at first, but that's ok, they eat it when they need it, know what I mean? Practice makes perfect, as they say ;)

As for the carers - they should be doing things as you wish. That includes the way she feeds your DD. It's less time consuming if you give them pieces to feed themselves anyway - though, yes, it does still leave the messy cleanup.

Have been having a shocking time with sleep in this house. A combination of things I think - teething, separation anxiety, lots of new things happening and it's just thrown everything out of whack. I hope things calm down soon once we change the sleeping arrangements because we all need some decent sleep in this house!

We have decided to put DS into daycare for one day each week as I am going to start looking for part time work. This way if I find something and need to start straight away, he's already going. I've taken him a couple of times this week just to have a play and some morning tea and he's been happy to play and let someone else carry him and he had no trouble yelling at the carer when his banana ran out!! lol To be honest, I am also looking forward to a few hours to myself and have someone else get him to sleep for a change. I can do the shopping, get the housework done etc. It's all been impossible the last couple of months with a velcro baby, and I feel myself slipping into a place I don't want to be.

:hug: Megan. We all need our space and ability to wind down from the stresses of being a mother, especially when dealing with a velcro baby. I hope that the day of DC works really well for you and DS and gives you the space you need, and that some decent sleep comes your way soon. Make sure that you speak to people - here on BB is great place to start! - about what's going on for you - it's important to have the right support around you when you're not feeling great when you can feel your headspace changing to one that's not great. I know it's hard to find the time in the circumstances but it's important that you're not isolated with how you are feeling and what you're dealing with as a mother. Use that day of DC to look after you too, including talking about what you're going through. Thinking of you.

Murph - I really admire all your determination and drive to get everything organised for Jasmine's implants now, and just your attitude to dealing with it overall. You're one strong mummy! :hug: I hope that everything goes smoothly with appointments and procedures leading up and that you're feeling okay as the time draws nearer.

We're back from a week "holiday" to Norway (it wasn't really a holiday IMO, but that's a whole other story) and I've got a toddler just getting over a stomach bug the day after we arrived home now straight into more awesome teething (premolars this time) so she won't eat but at least she's still BFing. I'm not in a particularly good place right now (PND flaring up) so I'm sorry for no other personals - I'm following you all and really enjoy hearing about the wonderful milestones and achievements (and GROWING!) all the littler bubs are doing.
