Smithy  oh hun that is just awful, Linc has the opposite and is screaming too. But that's the antibiotics. When did you last see your GP maybe it's time  so glad things are better this morning.
Thanks for your thoughts Lenny
Grub I agrea re before they cry and at this age it's not going to "spoil" them. I've been doing that with Linc I think that's why the sling works for him, I'm right there to comfort before he looses it. Just frustraighting when you get them back to sleep then they have a pain and they're wide awake again. :wall:
Happy 4 months Adam :D
Well I was silly last night and ate some spicy sasages. Linc has wind ++++++ again. Also he's really fighting sleep at the moment, this was before the wind, he likes to be awake. But gets over tired. Mum says I was like that so I've been forcing the SLEEP issue. Oh and he slept for 3 hours! two nights in a row, Not holding my breath but very excited.
Back to the GP tomorrow, I hope his UTI is on the mend, besides the wind he seams alot better, more alert and happier to feed. OMG he drained my boobs three times last night. How early can babies have their 6 week growth? He's already rolling over and holding his head up I wonder if he's running a little early.
-
Smithy - how's things? Still better I hope.
If she's still having trouble, I'd seriously consider changing formula back - did it start with the thickened stuff? I know you're having a hard time with lack of sleep, but is there anyone that can help you out? Hard poos are really not good, poor little thing.
A deep, warm bath might help. Also I've heard wiping their anus with a cold wipe might help. Or just plain water. Sugar I've heard is an old wives' tale :hide: though I know lots of people recommend it.
Did you get a sling?
Green - wow, rolling already? That's amazing  Glad to hear he's doing a little bit better.
 neptune
-
I'm pretty impressed with Green's bub rolling too!!! Adam's just too darned fat to get a leg over!
-
-
wow! rolling bubba so young! e was a bit on the late side with rolling and crawling - but i'm not too worried - the longer she is only semi-mobile, the longer my house is safe!
-
So true BG!
Hey Smithy, I just got a hot tip from someone I know who had the same problems - Brauers teething and colic relief. Worth a try
-
smithy - i haven't wanted to really comment about the constipation and formula issue as i'm not FF BUT, i have read a couple of times where you've said about making the formula more watery. now, as i said, i'm not FF so i'm not sure, but is watering it down a good idea? i'm pretty sure some of the reason that the formula companies were copping so much flack overseas was because people were unable to afford formula once their milk dried up, so were watering it down to make it go further... i would be worried about DD getting as much nutrient as she needs if you water it down
i know you switched to the thickened formula to try and stretch out her feeds and get her sleeping longer - but if it's going to give her so much grief, i would be going back to the other formula and copping the 2 hourly feeding! we went through 2 + months of DD only dirtying once every week or 10 days, and she would SCREAM in pain when it happened - so i understand why you're trying everything you can to get C past this - just make sure that watering down the formula is not going to be detrimental to her.
-
Oh my goodness formula sounds scary. :( hope I can keep bf My gut is saying little Linc is lactos intolarant though BUGGA.
The rolling freaked me out, I can't leave him on the change table which make washing hands interesting. Although I have wedged him in there a couple of times. shhhh He's pretty strong holding his head up for ages. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, and I agrea the longer they aren't mobile the better.
ATM sling on baby sleeping  I think this time it's the antibiotics though. Oh who knows I'm getting a little peed off with not knowing what is upsetting his belly. :wall: back to GP for answers I hope.
I bit the bullet and put bubs in the pram, shhhh still asleep. maybe I can now too.

Awww smithy, I had tears in my eyes reading your posts and feeling your pain. Then I had tears in my eyes when "Neptune to the rescue" (you'd never know she was a trained counsellor;)) made all those posts. Then...I had tears in my eyes from  LMAO about Neptune looking up Smithy in the reference...so cute.
We've had a big day and are catching up on sleep. Just wanted to say though that Green, I'm so happy you are talking about being off work for longer. when you were pg and talking about going back so soon, I really hoped that you would change your mind when the baby came along. I have broken just about every rule I ever had and changed my mind on so many things. Theory is a wonderful thing, but reality is a whole lot messier hey..all these feelings;) Oh and you said the other day that Linc rolled WOW! Thats quite bizarre. another early starter. It's so cool that they are all so different.
P.S am I the only one whose baby poos every single time she eats (gets rid of the last meal while having the next meal). she actually can't settle or feed until she has evacuated her bowels so I love waking up to farts and squirts coming from her basinette, DH and I get big silly grins "that's our girl"! I'd be a mess if she missed one poo. It's bad enough when they are green but BG a week or 10 days and Smithy, hard poo, you poor buggers. I can't imagine. I'm not even sure that it's right for Jasmine to go this often but it doesn't seem to hurt her. She has never been a big wieght gainer though and I have started her on some solid baby food in the times that my milk is low. OMG, did you see the photos, she went nuts for it,grabbed the spoon and tried to get it in herself.
Ni Night all. Feeling quite delerious now. xoxo

smithy - what a relief... actually that is what poor little charlie is probably thinking lol.
murph -yep Ash is a big crapper. and he farts like an old man. Stretch, fart, Stretch, fart, stretch, fart-fart-fart, smile at mummy :) he occassionally has a green one tho but i think that's due to my fast let down.
got up to ash this morning and he'd managed to manouvre his leg through the side of his cot! he's trying to roll but not as accomoplished as Linc yet lol. But I don't think I have much of this immobile time left. I have to watch him like a hawk on the change table and he uses his legs to frog-jump himself along it... and it's an open-ended folding one! so one hand on child at all times now where as before i could walk aroudn in the nursery, turn my back briefly etc
yawn... debatig on whether to go back to bed or not????
hi to all
-
Smithy, hope you've had a much better day today and a good night's rest last night. How is Charlie doing now, hun?
Greenslw  wow, Lincoln's been having such a rough time :( It's so hard to feel okay when you're doing the best you can do and still can't seem to fix what is going on. I hope that the GP can have some advice. I think that ABs can really play havoc with bubs digestion - I know they did with my DD, and that was even when she was 10 months old the first time - hopefully you'll see a really big improvement once the AB course is over. Hope you're getting some better rest in the next few days.
Wow, all these beautiful little bubs are doing amazing things already! Trying to get mobile already, and being so curious about the world around them already! How wonderful!
Hi to Murph, Grub, Neptune, marcellus, BG, BW, Kelly, Lenny and anyone else I might have missed.
I'm much better now thanks for all the thoughts and wishes everyone - just quite tired as I recover, but being up with DD between 1am-4am last night hasn't helped... really really tired of these blasted molars, they're just hanging around at the last hurdle and won't finally cut through after all this work and bad nights for months to be ready to cut. Oh well, hopefully we'll have a better night tonight. I'm currently studying for the test I need to take to apply for permanent residency here in the UK (basically the citizenship test) so my brain is very quickly turning to mush tonight. Wish me luck - the test is on Friday and I have no idea how I'm going to retain all the ridiculous amounts of information I need to know whilst being sleep deprived. LOL any tips?

Murph - E used to go four or five times a day - it's normal at that age to go that often. as she got older, it became less frequent. it's "normal" for BF babies to go that long - but E's were both the long time AND very very solid. we tried everything to help her - prune juice or prunes, pears, more yogurt, water - nothing seemed to help. then a few weeks ago, it all stopped - she had one really yukky hard nappy after 12 days, then the next day she went again and it was the right consistency - and now she is generally a once a day mega pooper. am actually sitting here watching her now waiting for the explosion! yay for cloth nappies that contain it all though lol
-
When Sam was on stage one formula he would only poo every four days. He wasn't constipated and nothing we did made him go more often... That's just the way he was. I have heard it said of BF babies that once every 10 days or 10 times every day is normal and so is everything in between!
Smithy, when it comes to your little one's constipation problem, I'd seriously consider ditching the thickened formula. I have been told that S26 is notorious for causing constipation, so I'd try a completely different brand of formula before doing things like watering it down and so on. It is completely normal for babies to feed frequently at that age, too.
Now... I'm a little afraid of what I'm about to say next and how it could be taken, but I feel like I need to just say it anyway. For those who are starting their babies on solid foods very early, please, please PLEASE make sure that you are aware of what you are doing! It's something I was extremely paranoid about with Sam as he is high risk of developing food allergies, but we waited and he seems fine so far, thankfully. But I do know of a couple of babies that were started early (as in before 4 months old) and both now have severe food allergies and intolerances that will be with them for life. My nephew who was started on solid food at 4 months old also has issues with allergies. PLEASE look into what you could be doing to your babies and be sure that you are making the right decision for your family, not just doing it because it seems like fun.
I honestly do hope that I haven't offended anyone, it's just something I feel VERY strongly about because of the research we did when looking at Sam starting solid food and knowing what has happened to other babies who were started on solids early.
I shall now go :hide: and get back to work.

BW - Good advice and point taken. Especially helpful knowing that you have done a lot of research and reading. ;)
For what it's worth and because we are all talking about poo habits :p, Adam is FF and does one good size soft poo once per day, sometimes every 2nd day and does not seem to have any trouble evacuating the evil spirits! We also tried the thickened s26 and I just didn't like the really yellow color that it stains everything, so we have given up on thickening his formula, didn't really help us anyway with his reflux. Didn't give it enough of a try to see whether it constipated him.
Acacia = hope your little one finishes cutting teeth soon!
Grub - go back to bed!!!!
Murph - Jazzy likes to fill her nappy, but listening to everyone here, that sounds normal!
Hello to BG, Marcellus, Lenny, Poppy, Green, Smithy, KellyD and anyone I"ve missed. Hope you are well, kisses to all bubbies.
AFM: All well, Adam giggling away madly all day and I just love it, although it means far less study than I'm supposed to be doing, even when DH helping out. Too cute to ignore. No problems here.

Hehe might as well throw in my DD's bowel habits for reference for everyone too :D
DD was exclusively BF for almost 6 months and she would poo multiple (i.e. many!) times in a day, right through until she started solids. I was waiting (as told many BF babies do) for her to stop soiling every nappy she went into and start to go a big stretch between poos, but it never happened lol. After she started solids she would still poo every feed, but then slowly dropped to pooing 3 or 4 times a day, and now she's anywhere between 1-4 times a day still. Very occasionally she will go more than a day between bowel motions, but that is rare, and is usually a sign she hasn't drunk enough fluids (BM or water, usually water) and often results in her getting generally backed up for a while (i.e. harder poos until she catches up).
DD was much like Jazz, Murph - she would use her bowels during or directly after a BF. In fact, she would often be really unsettled trying to poo (often in her sleep, waking her up) until she had a feed, which was hard, as she'd be thrashing about really uncomfortable, sucking to try to get a feed, but sucking also to try to do a poo ITMS.
As mentioned, this all happened especially whilst she was having a lot of trouble learning to be able to use her bowels properly, so sucking and feeding helped her as a baby's tummy filling up triggers what's called the gastro-colic reflex, giving them the urge to poo. My DD still works this way - all her bowel motions now happen (usually) within 5-10 minutes of eating a meal, and occasionally after having a BF still.
Hehe and so ends the poo talk from Acacia :D

hehehe gotta love the chatter that happens in these threads. you become a mummy, and you actively discuss your bubba's toileting habits!
BW - i read your post and i know we discussed the allergy thing at length when you were contemplating starting Sam on solids. i have also done a lot of reading to go with it, and i agree that holding off solids til 6 months (or as close to as possible) and then introducing foods helps to reduce the risk od allergies developing. there is also a lot out there that now says that foods such as peanuts that may cause allergic reaction are best introduced (just a little) before the 12 month mark (unless there is a known allergy in the family) - the only thing that seems to say to hold off until 12 months is honey, which makes sense (botulism risk).
we started introducing low risk foods, and have gradually introduced pretty much everything now. as i've probably mentioned, we live at least 15k's from a pharmacy, 30k's from the hospital - doesn't sound like much, but it can be a long trip if something is happening (like allergic reaction!) so the "high risk" foods have been introduced at mum's place when we've had a couple of hours to hang around and check on DD. she hasn't had much in the way of peanuts (just a scraping of peanut butter on a slice of bread) - but she had no reaction - means i'm not so worried about introducing satay back into our diet now!

Hi all - just wanted to say that we are back! Haven't had time to read through all the posts, but a big HI to all you lovely mummies and your gorgeous bubs.
We had an awesome time in LA and Hawaii. Jasmine was so funny at Disneyland - she really didn't know what to make of all the characters, so consequently all our photos with the characters have her with her face towards them trying to figure out what is going on! Spent all our time swimming in Hawaii. She was fantastic on the flights - basically slept for 90% of the time - wish I had been able to!
Will have to come back later to catch up properly as Jazzy is stirring.
Hope you are all well.
Janie and Jasmine xxx

oh janie you sound really happy and upbeat... maybe we should all go on an overseas holiday! glad you had a great time. those pics are going to be like gold in a few year's time lol.
thanks neptune, i did got back to bed for a small nap. We are now hiding out in the lounge with the a/c as it's supposed to get to 35+ with hight humidity here today... ugh. so i got in early with the a/c.
lol i agree BG ... we talk about great stuff on these threads. i believe there was a very funny discussion on the pregnancy folder about sex and who is doing what and when lol. I still remember what Smithy said Coop's comment about sex with a pregy wife was: Like riding a camel. lol :)
Acacia - glad you are feeling better. that exam study sounds like the last thing you need atm. Just tell em grub said you can stay and should just go back to bed! :)
thanks for your advice BW
gotta run. getting paged..
oh does it count as rolling if he rolls off the towel put under his chest during tummy time?? he's done it twice this morning! oxo
