Parenting after LT TTC #3

Hi all - just a quick one today so sorry for not a lot or persies. Just wanted to respond about the loss of hair issue. Mine started falling out by the bucket load at about 3-4 months and only slowed down recently at about 8 months! I am happy to say though that I now have lots of new regrowth filling in all the slightly bare patches! As someone with not very thick hair it was terrible to see it all going down the drain, but it does stop and it does grow back eventually.

hey murph, don't count your chickens yet love. the really nasty ones tend to like the Gulf water to intesify in and then BHAM hit you from behind... i saw on the news they think it might reintensify but you are in for a shuteload of rain! that's all you need a nice soggy ground and then a bit of a blow.

kellyd - nope no hair loss ... YET! I have been expecting it, hadn't heard the 3 mnth rule. But my hair is pretty thick before hand. It's drier now than ever but nothing really abnormal in the hair loss. But i'll keep you posted.

bw- thanks for the info about your little one's scan. i'm really not looking forward to it.. and the next day i take him to get needled! poor little darlin.

Can anyone tell me about their weight? i put on a STACK on weight in pregnancy and now have 20kgs to lose. Been doing 5-6km walks nearly every day for close to 2 weeks and not one ounce has budged! i'm soooo cranky about that. i've been eating really well ( DH is a health conscious, anti-junk food nazi) so don't know what more i can do! I'm planning on going back to my running as soon as teh doc gives the okay so that might help. But it's getting me down, i hardly fit any of my clothes and had to return all the maternity clothes i was loaned as the lady needed them herself. so don't want to buy anything new (can't really afford it on one income) but just feel sooo fat.

hey, and this whole 'breastfeeding pulls the weight off thing' - you just KNOW that won't be my luck!

Thanks Janie! Not great news, but nice to have a realistic expectation. happy for you that yours is growing babck. Thanks for that info.

Grub - yup, have to sympathise with you. Maybe its a survival mechanism, making sure you keep your fat stores up whilst the baby is tiny so that you are safe to look after him???? But I have been struggling, although luckily didn't put on toooo much. But enough trouble that I can hardly where any of my clothes and can't afford shopping. But just to reassure you; the moment I started running again a few weeks ago, I can feel my body shape changing back and I am just starting to be able to get buttons/zippers done up. Not much weight coming off on the scales, but hopefully because I have gined muscle - well that's what I tell myself anyway hehe). So I think if your body was used to running pre-pregnancy, then once you start again everything will get back to normal.

Hang in there and don't despair. I have had several people tell me that it takes a good 12 months to get back to normal, so even though feels ages away, we need to focus on long-term goals.

Grub, from what I've heard the BF and weight loss thing is a bit of a myth. I have three friends who BF - one lost, one gained and the other remained stable and couldn't lose anything until she stopped. There's a few girls in the weight loss thread who are doing weight watchers while BF - perhaps you could stop over there for some tips?

Soooo tired. We've had a few rough nights lately - then last night I just crashed hard and fast... woke up this morning and looked at the clock to see 7:45 and DH and I got up in a panic only to get out and see that every other clock in the house was saying 6:45. No idea what happened to the clock in the bedroom. But Sam went down for his nap early and easily and I figure I've just got to get used to it as it's back to work on Wednesday... Meanwhile, chocolate is my friend (in the absence of caffeinated drinks in the house!).

BW - Can DS play with alarm clocks yet? Our little terror is always playing with the clocks beside our beds - it's a nightly ritual now to check them for 'tampering'.

Grub - I found breastfeeding always made me hungry - I had to have loads of quick healthy snacks around the house, or I lived on peanut butter sandwiches!

Murph - It is a good thing that the cyclone came to nothing, but it must have been very frustrating.

I wouldn't think so, Lenny. I think it's more likely that DH hit the wrong buttons when hitting snooze this morning.

Grub: Sorry but can't help with the weight loss as I only put on 6kg's in total as I lost about 5kg's up to 20 weeks. I've been back to my pre pregnancy weight since about week 4, but I have however noticed a change in my body shape though. My bum seems to have shrunk but I think it has just relocated some to my tummy as I'm struggling to get the tone back. I've also noticed that my skin still feels loose on my stomach, not saggy loose but not taut IYKWIM. So I'm still trying to come to terms with the change to my shape and am hoping that once Tara and I start swim school things will be sort of back to normal or else I'm going to scare all the people at the swimming pool ;)

Murph: So happy that your cyclone was only a little zephyr but be careful that it doesn't come back and bite you on the bum (literally).

Miss M: :lol: sorry to be the bearer of bad news re the hair loss issue, just wait until you start to leave a trail of hair behind you wherever you go.

Thanks girls awith your advise about the hair loss. With both me and the cat malting at the moment our vacuum is in overdrive.

I didn't seem to lose hair. Waited for it and it never happened.

But yeah, the cat has it bad (lol Kelly)

Weight-wise, well I gained 20kg when pregnant. I lost 13 or so within the first few weeks (obviously including DS' weight ;)). Then plateaued for ages. Note - did NO excercise and started eating chocolate etc again... Then after I stopped working full time at around 11 months and started getting out for walks I started losing again. Lost another 6-7. since then have yo-yod a bit, up and down 1-2 kg. You know how it goes. Good girl loses weight, bad girl gains... sigh.
But, my shape is different. Definiately carrying more on the waist. yuck. but (and this is an important note) have done roughly 20 sit ups since giving birth, so this is surely a factor.:rolleyes:

My mum reckons she never lost her baby weight (which in her case woulda been, like 2kg or something:rolleyes:) until she stopped breastfeeding. Hormones are in flux in the early months too, remember, so might just take a bit to settle down.

How's things BW? Hope you've had a bit more time to process thiings now.

Lenny, you have to tell us all about your new boy:D. And yes, you are the wise woman who's done this more than once now!

Some days I feel so fat and frumpy I just put my maternity clothes back on and dare anyone to ask when I'm due ;)

Kelly - Im not looking forward to malting! My DP already says that my hair is everywhere, lol Because it is long, I just naturally had strands clog up the shower already so hope I dont lose CLUMPS!

Grub - sorry cant shed any light on the weight loss issue. My tummy is all flabby and I have that nice "over hang" thing happening :wall: Ive lost most of what I gained while pregnant, I had lots of fluid so have dropped nearly 20kgs but I was already overweight before I got pregnant so have LOTS more to lose. My OB has said if I want to try for another baby, that he "ideally" would like me to lose 20kgs :wall: Good luck and let us know if you find the secret!!!

BW - hope things are better for you today although I dont envy you going to work today! I cant imagine having to work and take care of a baby. Not sure how I will cope once I do have to go back to work. What a mystery about your clock?!?!?

Murph - glad all is ok with you and your house. Id imagine it would be pretty scary to have to evacuate and wonder if your house would still be standing afterwards.

AFU - Has been a hectic week or so. Have had my nephew staying with us on and off. I am picking him up shortly and he is staying until Sunday. His mum has bi-polar and is in hospital at the moment. She has been in and out of hospital all the time which leaves my nephew in the care of his grandfather whom personally I dont think takes very good care of him. He often comes to us with worn and dirty clothes, they havent had a washing machine for MONTHS.The other day he told me he had a lettuce sandwich for lunch I was like WTF??? :wall: I asked his grandfather if my nephew is ready for school next week and his response was "he'll be right" I was so angry. I ended up calling his mum in hospital who told me she hadnt organised things so I told her Id do it this week. He is 12 this year and is off to high school next year so he is approaching a critical time in his life. He doesnt shower everyday at home and most of the time he takes care of himself. He makes his own lunch for school, wakes himself up and takes himself to school. Its just not right. It is a very hard situation cause if me and my family rock the boat, his mother may turn around and say to us we cant have access to him. My brother whose child he is, passed away when my nephew was 2.

On top of that, my DP whom found out last year after a DNA test that he has a 16 year old daughter, finally made contact with her on Monday after tracking her down through a solicitor so we have that to contend with too. His daughter is keen to meet him which is good.

Also my DP is having major foot reconstruction surgery on 11 Feb in which he will be off work anywhere from 6 - 8 weeks and basically totally reliant on me and he will be off his feet completely for at least 2 full weeks and after that we are hoping he can get around on crutches. However this wont help me much with taking care of Trent.

As for Trent, well he is just more and more adorable every day. He is 12 weeks today :D As of Monday night, we have tried to wake him around 11pm to feed him in HOPE that he will sleep for the night. He only slept 4 hrs the first night, 5 hrs last night so HOPING it will be 6 hrs tonight. Since he is nearly 3 months old, I thought we'd better try to not demand feed him at night so he can hopefully sleep through. Tania - the line i bolded - please don't take this the wrong way, but night weaning can cause more issues than feeding on demand overnight. there have been a few threads on BB lately about people who have tried and it has caused more issues for them. and three months is very young for a bubba to be trying to store enough in their tummy to sustain them overnight

my DD got to the point of sleeping through very young - she was doing 6 hour stints by 5 weeks, 8+ hours by about 10 weeks. at 6months (ish) that all fell in a heap. we hit hotter weather, she was teething, started solids - and sleeping through went out the window and feeding on demand overnight started again. i can't deny her the drink she needs though. i wake and drink water overnight, so i can understand her wanting to have a drink. i believe in letting her guide us as to what she needs and when. it would be nice to be sleeping through but she is only young once, and it can work better to work with your bubba rather than against what they naturally need. hope that makes sense!

AFU - DD is only a couple of days off 8 months. she has a healthy appetitie and eats just about everything. mashed vegies got the big frown though - she spat them out - much to my embarrassment seeing it was prepared for her by friends of ours! oops! tomorrow we are getting the first of her eye tests done. not looking forward to it, but i know it has to happen and at least if we get on top of any issues early. friday she has her weigh in - she's doing well though - been weighing her at mum's - think she is a bit over 8.5kilos now

Wow Tania, you really have a lot on your plate! How lucky for your nephew that he has you guys looking out for him.

Have you tried dreamfeeding? It works well for some people. I have to say, a 5-hour stretch is really good for a 12-week old! Most 3-months old wont' be able to go much longer than that between feeds; most 6-month olds still feed through the night! Good luck with the sleep.

I'm hoping i can jump in - was in the LTTTC-Preg thread but haven't had much time to get on and join this one since the birth of my twin boys!!

Jack and Samuel are 9 weeks old today!! Boy it's been hard!! I struggled for the past few weeks but have turned the corner in the last 5 days or so after having a professional come to my home to help me with sleep and settling and routine development. Since then Jack (my big boy - 6.1kg at 8weeks!) is now sleeping through - after a dreamfeed at 11pm - sleeps till 6-7am therefore i only have to feed Samuel (4.5kg at 8weeks) at around 3am - so i am finally getting some sleep!.
The sleep deprivation has been the hardest and the fact that everything takes twice as long with twins! We are now getting more interaction, smiles etc i can't believe how quickly they grow and change!

Anyway most of you i remember from the preg forum can't wait to read and catch up on all your stories!

Bella: Welcome aboard, I thought we lost some of our twin mummies from the pg thread but it is so understandable that things have been challenging for you with 2. But so nice to see you made it here now.

Miss M: I really don't know what to recommend regarding Trent's sleep for you. I had my first Mother Group today and there was a baby older than Tara who still has 5 feeds a day and wakes during the night. The MCHN has told me I'm very lucky and have a very unique baby who sleeps for 11-12 hours every night and only has 3 feeds a day. I suppose it just shows how every baby is so different in their needs.

AFU: As I mentioned first Mothers Group today (finally) Tara is the second oldest baby in the group with the oldest being 4 1/2 months and the youngest is 2 weeks. So a big gap in ages although the MCHN has said that us "experienced" mum's will probably be very helpful to the mum's of the younger bubs, and what do you know I had a mum tell me her 5 weeks old has become very clingy and won't sleep unless held etc... Mmm, I then mentioned the Wonder Weeks, she had never heard of them so next week I'm taking my book in for her to have a look at. Tara was such an adorable angel the whole time, looking and smiling at everyone and when I popped her on the floor to play she started her non stop chatting and then promptly fell asleep for about 45 minutes. Everyone was amazed by how cruisy she was, lets hope she keeps it up.

Anyway better get moving, DH has had to do an emergency rush to Bunnings to get some plumbing parts as he puncture an external underground hose but unfortunately it is connected via the mains... So no water until he gets back and can fix it.

It has been a while since I last spoke on this thread. Can't log on at work and finding it very hard to find time at home.

Anyway, it is great to see everyone moving nicely along and bubs are growing.

About the weight loss thing... well I loss all of the weight within 4 months and am not bf. Freaked me out, went to dr and the dr said it is because I am under nourished... with all of the stress and being back to work full time I guess it explains it. Yup, loss the weight but haven't gain back the body shape.. gone big in places where it hadn't been that big before.

I got a question for those who have gone before. Lyla is now 6 1/2 months and growing strongly. She has always been a self-settler and sleeps very well at night. She started rolling by 3 months. This didn't pose much problem but by 5 months she started crawling and since then I have had problems putting her to bed. She would be crawling all over the bed until she falls asleep on her face! Now it is worse, she is pulling to stand and I can't keep her down. She is obviously tired but every time I put her down she would be dragging herself up and attempts to move across along the rail of the cot which resulted in her falling. I put pillows all over the cot to cushion her but this still does not solve the problem of her sleeping. Currently I have to cuddle her until she falls asleep in my arms.. which is killing my arm. My sister thinks I should let her sleep on the ground in the play pen but I could see her standing there, licking the bloody pen walls and looking out.

That's her sleep her, play is worse. She now wants mum to sit there and watch her play. If I just nick off somewhere near by to do some house work she would scream murder! What should I do???

Sorry shouldn't go on a rant like this but am at a loss of what to do.

Smithy, if you do go onto this thread, see if you could change the formula. S26 creates a lot of constipation. Try Nan Pro. I found it much better and Lyla has never had constipation with it.

Thanks for all your well wishes, I certainly didn't want the house blown away and doubt I cold have sat on the steps like you Grub, this house is slightly less rigid and wouldn't hold its own in a Category 2 blow, let alone a Larry 5. There is not a room without a lovely view but also not a room with solid walls. I know what you mean about your mango tree, my friends parents have one of the only massive old curtain fig trees that we know of other than the protected ones and they got married under it just months earlier. It was the most spectacular tree, then Larry did his work and stripped the poor bugger. It had been there for generations on their family property. They are still trying to save it 4 years on.

Sorry about the tree talk girls. Now for a few comments on parenting. First to KellyD, I haven't noticed the hair coming out in clumps or any more than usual. I have lots of hair and probably nothing a comb-over wouldn't fix;)

Grub, about the weight loss, sorry but I'm in the same boat as KellyD (tho I can't believe with that tummy that you didn't gain 20 all in front Kel). I think I did the same lose a couple, gain about 6 and when she was out, I was my pre-preg weight. Just different bodies I suppose like our different babies. The best comment I heard about losing the baby weight though is that it took 9 months to put it on, so you should expect it to take 9 months to take it off and not be too alarmed if it doesn't come off overnight. You will get back you shape with time and until then, you look gorgeous in the mummy afterglow. go and buy a few new things for yourself just for this phase and you'll feel better.

Kahlan, hello and welcome back. Lyla sounds like a feisty little one. Wow, rolling over by 3 months! She does sound like she keeps you on your toes. I don't really have advice but I have heard that's about the time when babies start to trust only you and are suspicious of other people. This is when they say to introduce security blankets and special attachment toys I think. Does she have anything like this to feel safe with or is this something you want to do? Just a thought. I hope you get answers on here about the crawling, standing and falling. I can't imagine it but sorry, it does sound gorgeous. I think when they start out this advanced, they dont slow down, that's just their innate nature. My brother's daughter was literally climbing up the internal door frames (to the top) like a monkey when she was 8 months old! She has had buckets of natural sporting ability all her life and has never slowed down - hopes to be an Olympic hockey player. You may have a little star on your hands.
