Just separation anxiety. It comes and goes and tends to peak at certain times in their development. All you can do is offer the reassurance they need. They also get very interested in the world around them at that age, which can also mean they're too busy to rest properly.
I'm amazed at your litle E! She's a real firecracker (with the hair to match)! We were the same, poo pooed suggestions to go on BCP. I mean, what for? In my case af didn't come back till A was over 16 months old...
A was always trying to stand up (not quite that well, I should add). He wasn't an early mover or anything, just overly optimistic I think. Your girl is super cute Murph. I need to get round to checking out all the links you ladies have posted. I do like baby pics ;)
Kahlan - that sounds so gorgeous! A likes sleeping as though he's prostrating himself before god, kneeds tucked right up underneath, arms out to the sides and head to the ground.
-
definitely a firecracker! temper matches her hair too - we just try and distract her... she's generally a really happy girl but sometimes she loses it!
with all the nasty lead up to teething, her first two teeth have come through overnight on nights she has essentially slept through - with no issues! go figure!
-
marcellus - DS1 sometimes sleeps like that too - it's such a cute postion. But then sometimes he is flat on his back, sometimes curled up on his side, sometimes he is squished up against the cot bars!
BG - Sounds like miss E is an absolute delight. Don't you just pinch yourself sometimes. I guess we all do. It's tough somedays - but we wouldn't swap it for the world.
Neptune - I'm sure that your DS is just going through a phase of needing reassurance. The distressed crying is hard to hear though - it's designed to break a mother's heart, I'm sure!
-
100% agree Lenny - so often I just stop and gaze in wonder at my boy. How on earth...?

I need some advice/reassurance etc...
I think Tara is starting teething already...
We have had the unsettled nights and only having minimal cat naps during the day. She is normally a very happy chatty baby, but now all the chatting seems to be cranky and whingy and she is having random bursts of crying. She is chewing her hands and fingers lots and is becoming very reliant on the dummy for sleep and the amount of drool leaves puddles as well. Now for the yucky part... Her nappies are horrendous, they were always quite bad but now they are enough to get the gag reflex happening and they are going all the way up her back. I've noticed that her lower gums are very white but no blisters as yet and also she has developed this unpleasant aroma about her which smells like strong urine (even with a clean nappy on). Does it seem like teething?? If so, what do you recommend to help?? I've purchased an Amber teething necklace and tried it on her but she complains even more with it on which is doing my head in?? Some ideas would be great.
-
KellyD - I don't have any advice for you, but maybe knowing that Adam is doing the same things - except the smelly nappy, but maybe that will be tomorrow's joy - makes you feel as though you have company!!!
It sure sounds like teething, but the MCHN also told me that weeks 15 through to 20 (or something like that) is referred to as a stormy period where they are a bit more clingy, whingy and upset, but I think with drooling and chewing surely something is happening.
Also, if she has a strong smell of urine, could her urine be concentrated and/ or have a UTI????? If so, she may be feeling unwell. Have you checked her temperature?
By the time you do all of this, you'll probably go back and find a tiny white tooth!
Big hugs to you.
-
Teething is a possibility Kelly, they do start that early sometimes.
A was like this at that age - drooling heaps and chewing his hands (the clinginess and bad sleeping....well....that's more constant for us, but it might have been worse then). Anyway, he didn't get his first tooth till 8 months, so he wasn't teething.
As for the urine smell - is she doing plenty of wet nappies? How many per day? I'm not sure about poos because she's on forumula, isn't she? I guess it would be different. They do do huge poos sometimes, though... Could you give your CHN a call and see what she thinks? Just for some reassurance.

Top comment goes to Lenny. You hit the nail on the head there. I just see this look on DH's face and I know he is having one of those "is this really happening" moments. He thinks I get bored of hearing him just say how unbelievable it is but I feel exactly the same. We are all so lucky to be where we are with our history of bad luck behind us.
Now who recommended gripe water to me? Well, you are not very popular with Jazz and neither am I . Oh dear, she hated it with a passion. I couldn't get any of it into her and stopped trying. I had always thought gripe water was some harmless watery liquid but this is like an antacid with a very strong taste. it did say on the bottle that it was a new formula, so may have changed.
Hooray for cute first giggles hey grub. i often get them in her sleep as she drops off the boob..too cute.
i still can't do the big catch up as i gotta give dh the internet (anyone would think finishing a phd thesis with 2 weeks to go is more important than my social life:o)
i found teeny weeny dummy (sister browne) cute and there was no gagging (so tiny) but she launched it as she prefers to chew. I'm going to try a NUK funny shaped one next and that's it. Yay, she has now discovered her hands and as per kahlans suggestion (i think), yes i am thinking that she will be a hand sucker and it's taking no persuading. i don't wrap her, she has just found her mouth in the past two days and its great. i am strapping teething toys to her wrist and she loves biting...so i get my fingers back. Too bad i don't get my boobies back, as it's only going to comfort her but not fix the wind. that's okay, im getting better with burping her.
thanks for sharing all the great stories abouut your gorgeous babies. It's funny to look into the future, but good to enjoy my little jellyfish just as she is. she will have enough obstacles to overcome without needing to be an over achiever and I'm beginning to think she is just a little bit cute to people other than myself..so there's a talent;) kidding. i am dying to see everyones babies. briggsysgirl, you are teasing us.
p.s...yes i am feeding:shakehead:
-
LOL Murph.
btw, rather than gripe water, try Brauers stomach calm. A loved it and it seemed to help a little at that age. It's all natural so she might like the taste better....
oh, well actually I have a picture blog for A if anyone's interested

Hi Girls
Tara is doing lots of wee's as I have very heavy nappies everytime I change her and no obvious signs of a UTI ie: fever, rash etc (I have a bladder condition so I know all about UTI's) at Mothers Group the MCHN made comment that she can tell when a baby is teething as she can smell them... she did describe it a an amonia smell... Tara has her next weigh in on Tuesday so I'll ask more questions then.
It is just so hard on her as she goes from being a happy laughing baby to a cranky miserable baby in the blink of an eye.
Murph: I was using "Infants Friend" wind drops for Tara, they are all natural and supposedly is pleasant to taste. It smells a bit like aniseed but whatever it is Tara loved it and I had no problem with her taking them.

Hi Smithy,
Great to hear from you. I sometimes scan through Lyla's photo from birth and marvel at how grown she is. I do miss those days and nights where I just wished she would be awake long enough for me to talk to and cuddle... fast forward and now I sometimes look forward to her nap so I could get some house work done.
Kelly, not sure about the smelly bit but Lyla has cranky times without teething. Her two bottom teeth just came through 1 week ago and she had no symptoms. I just accidently felt her gum and discovered them! She drool a lot and a lot since 3 months, had red cheeks on and off, poo change and had a couple of explosive green ones that went everywhere but no teeth until now.
Murph, I really want to share photos but I don't have facebook or anything of the kind... not to brag but I have been told on a number occasions that if I sent Lyla's photos to advertising agency she would soon be in some baby product ads. I am sure people are being overly kind but I will take it as gospel.
Goodnight everyone, got to go and feed Lyla now.

marcellus, you have a very handsome little man there!
-
A real quickie for Kelly, sorry, I nust have been posting at the same time as you today, so didn't realise you had made that plea for help. I went and looked at one of those development bibles and your symptoms described teething to a tee. It's very early, but not unheard of but sounds very likely doesn't it?
As for your wind drops, I went to get them and then thought of the more natural gripe water (it even has "natural" on the label and then lists the chemical breakdown on the back..what the? I think I got a dodgy brand cashing in on the old gripe water that my mum used to use.
-
okay i should be doing the vacuuming but... :shakehead:
murph, i also give Ash infant's friend and he likes it. It certainly helped with his burpy wind and a bit with the bowel wind but the ABs have really interfered with the fart/poo thing. But it does smell lovely (i think) ingredients are: Cassia Oil 0.041ml ; Magnesium Carbonate 2.22g; Ammonium Bicarbonate 0.10ml; Dill Oil 0.012ml; Anise Oil 0.026ml .
If you have no luck with the non crap gripe might be worth a shot.
marcellus - what a cutie! I love him in his snazzy little car lol.
oh Smithy - i know exactly what you mean about the time flying! hope Charlie's feeding starts to settle down a bit for you :) ox
kahlan -lol. i was like that this morn "ash, go to sleep so i can wash nappies, vacuum, tidy up, get dinner sorted, rah, rah rah". Instead he went to sleep and i got on belly belly (in my defence i did wash his nappies!).
neptune - yayay I did my first 2 runs this week. Ouchy on my belly! Been a bit slack with my core and pelvic exercises so this rainy day that is my work out. But nowhere near my 10km runs i was doing! I jogged on the way home from the post office with Ash and our lovely 'running' pram. Very surprised i didn't tip the child onto the road - those 3-wheelers can be tricky for uncoordinated people. lol. And then DH played with ash yesterday and i did about 2.5km. I was pretty happy with that considering it's been sooo long since i've run. But could feel my floppy bum trailing about 200m behind me heeheee. Are you back in the swing of things? how do you manage with bubba?
kellyD- sorry can't help you love but hope Tara starts to feel better soon love. and i'd love to hear if it is teething - so i can note it down lol. Our MCHN said Ash might teeth very early as his teeth buds are "very prominent already" eek! you can see his little teeth already, they are right there! oh deary deary deary me.
BG - boo hiss to AF! what a cow! i was NOT happy to read your post. But we are the same. we'll leave it to fate... although are using condoms til probably August as we are probably getting posted in December (i'd be my luck i'd fall and be due right on the moving date lol).
Hi Lenny! and Poppy - good on you gurlfriend!
I'd love to hear about everyone's thoughts about subsequent children. Going back for full cycles? Using frosties? Calling it quits (well, you have got perfection there already)? Living on an au natural prayer?
Personally, we'll leave it to fate for awhile and then in a couple of years go and use our 2 frosties. If nothing comes of all that, I seriously doubt we'll pursue IVF further. We got our dream already, so can't be greedy about these things lol.
Oh and flat head discussion a little while ago... spoke to MCHN about Ash's very lopsided head and i''ve been told to get more tummy time in and try to force him to turn his head the other way in the cot. So we've turned his bassinette around and put a little toy on the side for him to look at. Also at play time i make him turn his head the other way. He had such a lovely round head when he was born :( hopefully we can correct it...
SEVEN WEEKS TODAY! it's flying.
-
kelly - the teething thing can start very early - doesn't mean you'll get teeth that early! E had teethin symptoms from 3 months - really badly off and on. it started in august and she got her first tooth 10 days ago (with no sign it was coming til she bit my hand!) and her second this week! the little suckers can start moving and threaten to come through but never make an appearance. my poor niece had it from 5-13months!
Grub - i'm ALMOST ok with AF being here. in a way it's actually a little comforting to have AF visit and have a short gap (only 6 weeks) - given, before we started AC, i had between 4 and nine months between her visits, i think it's a good thing for me that she is visiting more regularly. unexpected so soon after E's arrival, but i'm actually kinda happy she is behaving for now. it means if we do decide to actively TTC at any point, i may actually have more of an idea what my body is doing...
-
Hi all
Grub - Well done girl on the running! I hear you about the bum flapping thing, I've solved that by investing in a running skirt! It has tight lycra type shorts underneath and it just holds everything in and covers the lumps. Makes me feel heaps more confident and motivated to get out there. I haven't run with Adam as yet, but will be trying that this week. My DH works a set shift roster for the month so it works really well; I just look ahead for the week and run when he's home and not sleeping. I figured it was better to try and get some semblance of fitness before running with Adam, but I'm keen to see how he likes it.
Update re flat head! Saw the MCHN yesterday and she reassured me greatly. She said that his head was not too bad and will sort itself out once he's moving/rolling/crawling. She checked for any muscle shortening on the affected side but that was fine. Basically tummy time tummy time tummy time! She said if he gets upset (which he does) pick him up and distract him, then do some more. I put a mirror in front of him so now he does seem to be enjoying it more. Also to encourage him to roll back to front as once he is able to do this, tummy time takes on a whole new level. Also, she suggested that if holding him sitting on your lap, get DH to talk to him from the side he doesn't like to turn, so that he turns his head that way. Just little things I guess that may help.
Re the 'more babies' issue; after all the trouble we have had, we are just going to leave it to fate. WE do have one frostie so we will use that at some stage but I am quite adamant that I won't be doing IVF again. We feel very very blessed with our little cherub and I am just happy.
-
Well my red cheeked girl seemed to sleep much better last night, but it seems like we are in for the long haul with this teething thing. I suppose it doesn't help that she is also going through a clingy stage as well... Can't even go shopping and put her in the pram as she cracks it because she can't see me..
As for us and having a second, we are just going to see what happens at the moment. If we get a natural miracle then that would be a bonus, if not we are planning on doing our next FET in Jan 2011. We are probably fortunate that we still have 3 day 3 and 5 day 5's in the freezer (although this guarantees nothing) but if non of these work then I doubt I could/would go through IVF again, mainly due to the cost as I am planning on being a SAHM at least until Tara starts school. To afford to do the cycles to get Tara we actaully sold our house in Melb and moved to the country where housing was cheaper and IVF was cheaper and had some money to put towards the costs. So many things to consider and I know DH would love 2 children but sometimes you just need to look at what we have and feel blessed.
