I've been absent for a long time... Had a lot to deal with and my teaching career is now dead and over... Don't know if I'll go back, but it certainly won't be for a long time. Back to being a stay at home mum now.
My rheumy is pushing for a return to IVF pretty much NOW, and not sure how I feel about that either.
Anyway, have been reading... will try to get back into posting a bit more now.
BW
We are still here as well.
Tara got 2 more teeth yesterday, so that's 5 in total and is still too lazy to want to crawl she still prefers to roll everywhere.
Things are on the move for me as well and with any luck by the end of next week I'll have 2 little blasty's on board.
Hope all your little ones are growing and keeping you all smiling.

Hi girls - like BW I have been reading but not posting. We are rather busy at the moment with trying to find a house - we have a lovely 2 bed, 2 storey apartment in a beautiful central suburb in Melbourne, but we are fast running out of space with Miss Jazzy getting bigger and more active by the day. So the time has come to upgrade. We are so fortunate to be in the position where we are going to keep our apartment and turn it into an investment property - we figure if it doesn't work out we can always sell it down the track and make a nice profit on it. You gotta just bite the bullet and try sometimes! So very anxious about it all at the moment and we are freaking out about how much debt we will be in, but then we will also have a lot of assets. Going to an auction this weekend in the suburb next 2 us for a beautiful 3 bed, 2.5 bathroom, 2 storey townhouse with courtyard. Way bigger than what we have at present and to have a little outside area will be just heaven! The whole back of the ground floor of the house opens up with lovely bi-folds so would be wonderful in the summer. We have set a really strict budget, so really not sure how we will go. Trying hard not to get too emotionally invested in this property. I know if this one doesn't work out another one will just be around the corner.
Next to freaking out about the above, Jazzy has now gone on to have a total of 4 febrile convulsions. It is happening pretty much everytime she spikes a fever at the moment. We have had discussions with the Paed and he says that unfortunately it looks like she is just one of the unlucky few that this happens to. He said that we should expect numerous convulsions up until she is 2, tapering off to occassional from 2-3 and then hopefully none after the age of 3. The only way to stop them is to put Jazzy on full time epilepsy medication, which obviously comes with its own set of problems. Paed said that because the convulsions are not harmful and cause no long term damage that he does not like putting a child as young as her on daily medication. So looks like we are just going to have to ride it out. As scary as it is, I have to say that I am getting a little calmer with them - sounds terrible to say, but it is amazing what you can cope with when you have to get used to it!
Jazzy is going from strength to strength - she is a talking/walking/running machine! Just the cheekiest, cutest little button I have ever seen (not that I'm biased!) She is LOVING nursery now. She NEVER cries at drop off anymore and actually really looks forward to getting in there. It is making being back at work 3 days a week so much easier. They do so much stuff there that I just can't do with her at home - mainly because we don't have an outdoor area (which may change soon fingers crossed!)
I will try and get back later to catch up properly with you all - sorry about the ME post girls, there just never seems to be enough time at the moment.
Janie and Jasmine xxx
Hi ladies,
thanks for the welcome, I still can't really believe that I actually have a little baby to write about after everything we went through. I guess the surreal feeling dies away at some stage but for now we're still enjoying just gazing at Finn in wonder.
So far he's been pretty good with sleeping at night although we're finding it somewhat difficult to settle him during the day at times after feeding. Yesterday he decided that two hourly feeds was the way to go form 9-5 so I didn't really get a lot done though thank goodness he then went 4 and then 5 hours at night. Feeding wise, well we had a few issues at hospital with lack of colostrum and attachment so had to use nipple shields and now he won't feed without them. My boobs are relatively big and apparently my nipples are flat so it seems the nipple shield helps. I was a little concerned but the maternal and child health nurse said not to worry about it at all so i'm feeling a little better though still worried about all the things i've read...
Another question for all you wise mums - how long does it take to get into something vaguely resembling a routine? Or is that just completely wishful thinking at this stage?!
Hope everyone is going well - I promise to start doing persies next time ;)
Sounds like you're doing pretty well Lise! 2-hourly feeds during the day (or even mor eoften) is totally normal. It'll get easier as your baby gets bigger and is able to feed more quickly. As for routine - don't expect anything before 12 weeks . Sometimes babies fall into patterns before then, but generally not. It's easiest to just go with the flow, especially early on. And, of course, as soon as you think you've got a nice routine going, they'll up and change on you anyway!
Do you have a sling or carrier of some sort for during the day? Anyway, hope you're taking advantage of feed times to get some rest.
You might want to call the ABA or get on to a lactaction consultant about the shields. No harm in using them, but they're a real nuisance!
Janie - sorry about the convulsions. That must be so scary  But it sounds like Jazzy is doing wonderfully anyway!
Get well soon Smithy
Have my fingers crosssed for you Kelly
Hiya BW. Any more clarity on the IVF decision? It's a tough spot to be pushed into.
:hello: to everyone else
We're good. Just cruising along. I'm working, but actually getting paid to sit around at the moment as work's gone quiet. what a shame.
A continues to blather on non-stop. Oh, he came up with a cool name for the new baby the other day: Kicker.
Hi all MIA due to work, life and a very active little man :D
MissMagpie you are so so so great to be so good about DP's daughter in your home   it's funny how little children love big children so lovely to see. Glad you're doing well and so is Trent
Happy Birthday Lyla time flies Kahlan

Saph glad X loves his solids :D hay did you brave Target Sale? NUTS
Marcellus how's pg life treating you?
Hi Murph hope you haven't been freezing in KI. I was there a fortnight ago, all snuggled up by the fire it was so cold but nice to have lots of cuddles with Linc and DH ;)
Happy 9months to Tara and KellyD hope you're energy has retuned
BW wow what a change I hope it's much better for you teaching is HARD work
Hi to everyone else, been a slacker but will try better.
What's new with me! well DH did it he's quit his job and will be at home with Linc full time as of next Friday. Leaving me to enjoy work again and not do the 7-8am dash which isn't good for me or Linc.
Linc is rolling and rolling and rolling and rolling :D it is so cute, one minute he's in the lunge room then he's rolling into the kitchen to say "hi mum" He's still so hyper and has just recently decided he doesn't like his jolly jumper, so not sure what to do with his energy THOUGHTS PLEASE!
Work is crap but I"m looking for something back in the government and full time as money is Tight Tight. I've been delighting in Lincoln delighting in other children which has made me think maybe I should work on DH to try for another bub with out frosties. He was pretty sure he didn't want any more I was half half but don't know so may things to consider but is it fair for linc not to have a sibling close to his age DSS and DSD are 15 and 19 years older than Linc?
Hope all are having a great day.
oh Lincoln is 6 months Saturday time really does fly.
Lise - I didn't see anything resembling a routine before 5 months!! Everything the books said didn't happen with my DS. I agonised for ages wondering why I didn't understand his cries (like the books said I would) He didn't show sleepy signs until about 4 months. So in the early days I eventually learnt to go with the flow. If he cried I always assumed he was hungry even if he had just fed five minutes beforehand. My motto became 'if you see an open mouth, stick a boob in it!' (Though I think my DH was disppointed that he didn't seem to be included in that rule!!!) Gradually the feeds spaced out themselves after 12 weeks. I stopped trying to put him down for a sleep as it was causing too much stress for both of us. If he slept for five minutes on my lap or an hour in his sling it really didn't matter. Eventually I noticed he started showing a pattern. It was only after the third day when he fell asleep on the boob when I was watching Neighbours at 1pm that I twigged he might be sleepy at 1pm!!!! LOL
In all I really don't know who these people are who write the books and say babies feed every three hours or whatever. Out of all my friends at the babycentre I have only met one mum who in the early days had a baby who fed every three hours and she had to wake them up for a feed as they were jaundiced. Everyone else was feeding constantly or every hour. I think I remember hearing that the advice about three-four hourly feeding has somehow spilled over from advice for a formula fed baby??
Ahem. Yes, I didn't want to tell Lise that DS didn't have a routine that I could sort of count on till he was like... 18 months or something.
"Those books" should be burned. That is my opinion anyway
All the best on the job front Green!
Opposite side of the coin - Sam came home in a routine from day dot and has never really thrown too many curve balls at us unless he's sick. I'm not sure still whether it was because he was premmie and spent 10 days in special care being "trained" into a routine or whether he's just that kind of kid. I try not to talk about it too much as I know that most kids aren't like him!
No closer to a decision on more IVF or not. I'm kind of leaning toward not for now - but will probably consult with a few specialists before I finalise that decision - not that I'm doing anything to get that underway!
I have just one more thing to say. Tonsilitis sucks.
BW
Marcellus - BTW DS's little miracle of falling asleep by himself lasted about two nights!! Then teething mucked it all up again. We are now doing half an hour of feed, whinge, feed, whinge, roll over, feed, roll over, whinge, feed, shake toy lamb vigorously, feed, whinge, feed, sleep. And not always in that order!!! The big lesson I am learning is you get over one obstacle and the next one is looming quickly! Routine schmoutine!!! Burn those books!!!!
Lise - just reread your post and noticed you mentioned shields. I used them for a couple of weeks because of bad attachment due to a tongue tie. I started them at about 5 weeks though I think. I found it hard to believe that he would attach without them but eventually he did after a couple of days of weaning him off them. Also their attachment improves as time goes on and they get bigger (even with flat nipple) so you may not have to use them forever if you are unhappy with them.
Psst Poppy, DS did it at around 5 months, then not again till nearly 2....
 BW. Good luck with your decision.
Oh and nipple shields, I used them from 4-11 weeks.
What a refreshing and funny convo you are having atm Poppy and Marcellus. As I write, I have just fed my two hourly feeding terror and she has sprawled out upside down over my lap, arching her back, because that's what she likes to do after a feed now apparently:rolleyes:
Yep, I was doing feed upon feed and I still get the look like "well what took you so bloody long?" when you just offered her a feed 5 minutes earlier and she refused point blank, but now it's like you have been starving her. It's hard to read the signs sometimes still as I said to DH lastnight, it looks like I'm forcing her but I'm trying to work out if that's the "don't want it" cry or "give it to me now" cry. It was the latter as she practically inhaled before my top was even open! I think wind still plays a part too, either from what I eat, or just her system, so I still have to go back and remember the basics of burping and working her legs, or just get her up and moving. It makes sense but it doesn't always come into your mind when you think it should just be a smooth feed.
routine schmoutine..I agree, although I do recall 12 weeks being a time where the really bad wind started to settle as her system got stronger and she could pass it through herself. NOw there's nothing funnier to her than feeling those little bottom burps rumbling under her (like right now OMG!) and she feels really proud of what she can do. For a kid who can't hear, she still enjoys alot of tactile sensations like the vibrations of a good fart and oh dear, I've never seen a kid blow more big wet raspberries.
i was addressing a Lion's Club meeting this week and I'm standing at the mike explaining our situation, and her Dad has her on his lap and she is blowing raspberries at me non-stop:redface: she's actually quite useless in the cutest possible way. she gets tangled up in things and just can't get out, like I put her on the ground to work out her wind a minute ago (it worked!) and she is now completely stuck untder the clothes airing rack. If she can get under it with her legs, she will, but she can't get out. I digress...good news....the Lions Club rang us back after the meeting and want to support us by paying our travel costs for Jazzy's therapy. I was so happy I cried from sheer relief. I knew it would come from local community and not government agencies and I didn't waiver in my belief that somewhere, somehow, a window would open for us. We don't need much, I mean it's not like we can ask for the $100,000 plus for the surgery, but the therapy costs are a huge deal and are setting us further behind than ever before. We have a few more trips to Melb before the surgery now too, so that's going to be a great help. I'm feeling much better now and all on track for November.
Janie, it's a me post too, but it's hard to find time to speak to eve3ryoneand again I have a squirmy wormy on my lap eating her foot. I know what you mean about the fear getting less. I guess it's like a lot of things and now it's more of a contained fear for you, not hysterical and terrifying I imagine.
Gotta go resume feeding and hopefully get a nap out of jazzy.
xox
Oh and by the way, I think I 'll be in the same boat with the baby that never goes down for a sleep on her own. It's boob and me for now. Don't know what I'll do when she weans but we do what works for now hey?
Hehehe I have a little monkey who is totally routine-less too! He sets his own routine, and every day is different! And BW he was in special care too for a week! I guess he's just contrary & stubborn just like Mummy  I guess it goes to show every baby is different. One more on the "Burn the Books" bandwagon! Of course they're not gonna follow the textbook, Don't they know that babies can't read? LOL
Hope you're all well. Been lurking but not posting. I very rarely get the laptop open these days, generally just read posts on my phone while feeding, and posting via iPhone is rather annoying LOL.
We're all good here, although still dealing with the teething monster :( Hoping something will cut through soon. DS is madly trying to sit up. He can pull himself up from a recline position but can't hold it just yet. Also when you lay him on his belly his arms & legs go like the clappers, but when he realises he's not going anywhere he gets rather cranky!
I just have to say, once again, how totally in love I am with my boy! This is just the best job ever! And all the hard times & sleepless nights are totally worth it! Waking up & looking over the side of the cot to see that grinning little face just makes our day, even if it's at 4am!
Anywway here's some more pics of our cheeky little monkey: Kelly Wijnans#039;s Photos - Jagger 3-6 Months | Facebook
Hope you all have a great weekend! We are very excited, Daddy has his first full weekend at home in months! We can't wait to spend it with him, and we're having family portraits done tomorrow to boot!
I guess that proves it - Sam is just that kind of kid that loves routine. I remember Sam doing all those things too, BOC - but when he was MUCH older than Jagger is now! Looks like you'll have an early mover on your hands!
And tonsilitis still sucks - both me and Sam for the third time in the last two months. I never got it before this - it's horrible!
