Hi to all those in the same position. I too had this decision to make a couple of weeks ago. My TN results came back with a 1:59 result and although I originally thought i wouldn't have the amnio I was then in a position to seriously consider it. After much agonising, talking to friends, obstetrician, genetic councellor at the ultrasound clinic, my GP etc etc etc. I decided to go ahead with the test. Early on I had thought that no matter what I would procede with the pregnancy no matter what. In going through this process I realise this is a wonderfully idealistic position. I think it is also very important to look at this path too, not only for yourselves but also the child involved. Both my partner and I are 40 and need to consider the wellbeing of the child not only for now but also in the future when we are too old or not around to care for them. It really caused us alot of anxiety. We eventually decided not to think about this until we had the results and would then look at our options then. We had both really bonded with the images on the ultrasound and knew termination would be a very difficult option.
The amnio procedure was not nearly as horrific as I had imagined and as a good friend of mine explained to me days before - the emotional recovery can be bigger than the physical one. I definitely found this. I took the advice of friends in making sure i booked with someone who was highly regarded in this area, Lachlan de Crespigny (Women's Ultrasound Clinic - Carlton). He was wonderful, gentle and sensitive. The procedure was a little uncomfortable but definetly ok. Hard to believe when you know they are pushing a needle through your stomach to the amniotic sac...
Anyway, I received my results back within 24 hours (FISH option) and have been given the all clear. I am finding this a hard one to digest too funnily enough... maybe it will take a little time to sink in. I am relieved we now don't have to contemplate any other options and really feel for those couples that do.
I really hope that this post helps others in their journey.
with love

Megan it does take a while to sink in. Even when i had my results i kept thinking what if they have got it wrong knowing that they can't get it wrong.
I'm pleased everything has turned out well for you both.
Did you get to find out the sex of the baby ?
Pardon my ignorance, but what is a CVS?
