Funnily enough chocolate has caffeine in it too but not so much as coffee.
For those who are interested there is a list of the amounts of caffeine in different drinks etc here.
They list brewed coffee but not espresso. I think that espresso has less than brewed because it is a quick process. I know that tea has more caffeine if you let it brew for longer and I assume the same is true for coffee.
yep, I am a one a day person too - real coffee - I asked my doctor she said it was fine - all about moderation and I figure there are worse things I could be doing.

I used to love drinking starbucks coffee before I got pregnant - Then I just couldn't face it anymore. Even though I didn't really get morning sickness I just went completely off certain things - the most surprising to me was baked beans - I used to eat them about 3 times a week before then! Anyway I think during the last 30 weeks I've had maybe one coffee, but made with only half a shot because I can't drink it if its strong anymore!
yep I still work a 40 hr week and I don't think Id be the same without my morning cup of tea or coffee!
at work I've got some herbal tea that I bought from T2. its such a nice drink as an afternoon pick me up . :) so thats another alternative for you...;)
With both DS and DD i waited until i was out of the first trimester (had decaf in the mean time) and then had 1 a day.
i say 1 cup of good coffee a day would be fine, if you are a regular coffee drinker. In fact, with decaf, there may be less caffeine, but there are heaps more chemicals!!
Hot or cold chocolate or just eating chocolate of course does contain caffeine but not as much. I love dark chocolate to eat, but this has more caffeine so I try to limit it.
I also enjoy a chai latte about once or twice a week. Yum!!
I however, noticed a change for the good when I gave up chocolate when breastfeeding. I hated it for the first week, but quickly got used to not having it.
I'm not a big coffe drinker anyway. I have had a couple of Iced Coffes though. The other thing i find hard to give up is coke or pepsi,so i getting the caffiene from them. I am cutting them down though.
I had one a day while I was pregnant.I asked my doctor and he said it's fine as long as you keep it to small amounts.
In the first tri i couldnt stomach it, but by about 15 weeks I was having one or two a day. I was a fulltime uni student and without coffee it would have been impossible to keep my eyes open long enough to concentrate lol!
Everything in moderation and like someone else said, there are a lot worse things you could be doing than drinking a cup of coffee.
personally i wouldnt do it i look after children and a parent of a 4 month old baby drank coffee all through her pregnancy and doctors warned her that she would end up with a very crying baby if she didnt stop drinking coffee during there pregnancy and she didnt stop and DB is constinely crying baby and can take a while to settle but he is never really totally relaxed yes he plays and eats well as any baby does but crys and its a very high pitch cry.

My first question to my GP when i found out I was UTD was "do i really have to quit coffee" LOL :lol:
he said as long as it's not 22 cups a day then no probs. I have always been a 1 proper shop bought latte a day and i've continued to be so right through being preg and will continue to do so.
i think i would probs die if i didn't have one in the morn :o i hate to imagine my moods being worse than they currently are! LOL
I did just read recently in a pregnancy mag... sorry dont recall which one... but it said less than 4 cups a day is fine.
i have only ever had 1 or 2 at most but since being pg i cant stomach it. I still love the smell and feel like having one when i smell it... but as soon as its in i mouth its just NO WAY!
I have never been a coffeee lover but I have 1 or 2 cups of tea a day and a diet coke so i am stulk consuming caffiene as I am addicted.

Hi!! I am a little early to be jumping in to this forum but at ten weeks today I thought I'd just have a peek!
Coffee is something very close to my heart. My doc says there is no medical reason to give up coffee. I did some research and found that the study that most of this no-coffee junk comes from was done on rats. To cause the same defects as were found in the study, the equivalent amount of coffee a 70kilo woman would need to drink is 600 cups per day! Obviously a bit more than most of us would drink. Other studies I found indicate that anything less than 5 per day is nothing to worry about. One other thing noted is that there is often a general correlation where people who drink loads of coffee may also smoke more, consume more sugar, drink more alcohol, drink less tea and water, and eat less well than those who tend to drink less coffee. This is a bias that is not always taken into account in medical studies.
Of course all of that is only in relation to pregnancy. As we all know there are plenty of other ways that drinking too much coffee can affect us.
I would love to be drinking my daily 2 cups of coffee but unfortunalty my pregnant brain has decided that coffee at home makes me sick! Weirdly, I can drink a cup when I go out? Placenta brains are very mysterious :)

I'm in the UK and read an article last weekend that revised caffiene limits from 3 coffees (or 6 teas) per day to 2 coffees (or 4 teas). So I really don't think you need to worry. I think we all have a tendency to over think these things. Our mothers' generation never worried about stuff like this and we all turned out pretty healthy, no? So enjoy your cup without guilt!
