SaraJane,
I too was told my iron levels were low. I think at 12 weeks it was around the 128 mark and then at 28 weeks it had dropped to 104 which they said was fairly low.
I was told to also start taking the FGF tablets twice a day but i picked up the Ferro Gradumet ones instead (white bottle, green lid with tiny red pills). The midwife said these are fine to take and these also have slightly more iron in them than the FGF ones.
I found they caused constipation in the beginning but now i think they are actually acting as a laxative :o Work that one out!
My iron levels were again tested at 34 weeks and it's now around 114 i think.
I was taking it with a glass of orange juice morning and night but the juice gives me really really bad reflux so i just take them with water now.
And yeah, don't take the tablets until after half an hour of no dairy products. I found this made a difference for me.
There's my 2 cents!
Thanks guys!
Well I went to the chemist and she gave me some one called Iron Plus, an ethical nutrients one. She said it has Iron with Cofactors which is apparently stuff that helps it be absorbed better and I have to take 1 a day. She seemed to know what she was on about so I just took the one she told me too.
It has folate in it too, 400mcg I think, and I'm also taking my preg vitamins. Can you have too much folate?
