well the plot has thickened! my friend got a call today basically being told either step down or else!
-
Hang on, did I miss something?
What friend and WHO called her?????
-
LOL, My friend & another lady are the co-ordantors (sp?) for canteen, they took over the role this year. the other lady rang my friend & said she didn't want to be part of the conflict that being associated with my friend is causing and that she will be takin gover th ejobs involved & doing as she is told. my friend can quit if she likes but she wont be making any changes if she stays.
Also told her this is what happens when you don't keep your mouth shut blah blah blah.
I feel for my firend as I have only known her 12 or so months, but all these women going against her are "friends" she has had for years.
Thing is the conflict is over the bloody lollies going!
-
Wow!
And its all over lollies....
-
well that & the profit loss taking the lollies away will cause. Which my friend worked out to be on average $450 a year.
But really its because someone has come in & dared to challenge the "group"
which is stupid cuz really, they have to do it, its the rules.
-
Your friend needs to politely tell them that they are breaking the law.
Honestly! They dont get to choose who tells them off for it, would they prefer her or the authorities?
If they want lollies keep them in the staff room, not the canteen - its not hard?
-
exactly what I told her to tell them. She said she going to arrange a 1 on 1 with the principal
-
o.. that is crazy! I feel for your friend FionaJill..
The teachers should be setting an example and eating the unhealthy food in the staff room out of sight.
We have a "staff canteen" loaded with everythign wrong, but it is not consumed in front of the kids or parents for that matter.
Best of luck.. and if your friend gets the boot.. i would make a formal complaint to the authorities.. the local council will come in about the Food Act breaches and from what I've read, the NSW Canteen Assos will coem in about the unhealthy breaches.!!

I know when I did canteen once a few weeks back one of the teachers had a yr 6 student come up in little lunch & big lunch to buy 2 packs of these sun fruit face lollies so 4 packets all up & these things are about the size of a 20 c piece & there would have been 40 all up (10 in a pack).
Apprently he gives them out in class but when I asked at P&C if teachers do that they all jumped in & said OH NOOO! LOL this teacher was first to say he doesn't. It amazing that they don't realise that the kids tell us different. DO they think we are stupid?
-
-
Woohoo! yay for you and your friend. Not so much for winning, well its nice, but for standing up to the mob and doing whats right :)
-
HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!!!!
How awesome is that... hope all the lovely P&C ladies enjoy that lovely juicy peice of humble pie.
:)
oops.. that was a bit catty wasn't it?
pass on my congrats... that is a win for her... but more importantly, a win for the kids health!!
-
OMG FJ what a hot bed of conflict your little school is!!
Our canteen is open today so i will get whatever documentation I can find for you.
We survive in our staffroom by bringing in our own treats and just buying healthy stuff from our canteen.
BTW one of our huge money makers are frozen pineapple cups- some unsweetened pineapple juice in a plastic cup frozen- they sell for 60c (it s about 1/2 cup full) and the kids LOVE then, DD1 who is in Yr 12 will still ask me to make them at home for her LOL
-
Thats a great Idea Mrs Mac. I will pass that one on for sure.
Well I got the low down of what happened. The pricpil admitted to be wrong, appolygised again & again & will be putting something in the news letter about the changes to be made.
They did air fresh popped pop corn yesterday & for a bag that cost a $1 the would have made that make in 3 bags as they sold them for 40c each & used the entire $1 bag (not sure exactly how many 40c bags they made from that but apparently it was alot. So she is pretty chuffed that healthier options proved they can still pull a good profit.
I can't wait to get into the school & see the faces on the P&C womens faces HAHA. I will miss it all though as I don't have a car for a little while yet :( still getting fixed.
-
Oh no! Fi you really deserve to be there.
Kudos to you and your friend xoxoxoxo
-
Good to see that there may be some changes at your school, well done on standing your ground:clap:
I hope your canteen can make the changes, ours did and are still making a profit, they make their money in other ventures such as supplying food at functions at the school eg. principal conventions, sausage sizzles at the fete and on Grand parent's day etc.
Our school has some great teachers that go out of their way to help encourage students to make healthy food choices, two of the most favourite with the kids are the healthy lunch box awards where the local fruit/veg shop and the P&C go halves in supplying vouchers to the winners to use at the fruit shop. The other is the nudie lunch box award, this is where the kids are rewarded for having no packaging in their lunch boxes. Both are simple to run.
-
That some great idea's.
Apparently the reason alot ofthe parents who attend P&C & the teachers think these lolies & stuff are ok, is because they say its a treat. We don't have a corner store the kids can go to & buy these things outside of school.
They also believe that its ok for them to have these things because they all live on land & the kids run around. Apparently obesity isn't a problem up here. Its only down the mountain.
This is such a stupid way of thinking. So because the kids a active its of to fill them up with empty calories & sugar?!
Im really going to push that the school sets a better example, not just in the canteen.

Great job Fiona :) Did you still want me to check work for that fact sheet?
