Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
Our school uses a traffic light situation green it's nothing to worry about, amber talk to your friend about it and red talk to the teacher on yard duty. It seems to work well. The preps have their own play area too, it's one of the reasons we chose the school over the closer one to us where all the kids mingle we didn't think dd1 would have coped with that last year.
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
Ohh how awful MN I hope there is no more and school deals with it well. Gee kids can be cruel I can't believe this is all happening in prep!! Hugs to all of you xoxo
Black_rose Glad party was good. Traffic light system sounds good.
DS1 has been very keen this week for his readers and reading eggs so lets hope continues.!! He has been walking with the teacher a lot of lunch times, he says he likes doing that!!! Seems much happier so hopefully continues, when asked says some kids he plays with but not sure how much he plays when walking with teacher so often. In process or organising private speech for him as school speech can only see him possibly once a fortnight for 30 mins and feels he needs more. It is $ exercise
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
When I brought up an observation about a 5yo being on the receiving end of bullying behaviour, I was told in no uncertain terms that kids that age can't be bullies because they are too young to understand what they are doing. Load of BS IMHO. They know they are hurting the "victim" (for want of a better word) and they do it because they think it is fun. They may not end up as serial bullies if their behaviour is caught and corrected early on. But bullying behaviour is still bullying behaviour regardless of the intent of the child in question IMO. It is the "victim" that suffers if it is not dealt with appropriately and quickly. Having been on the end of similar behaviour myself, albeit at an older age, I can tell you it is NOT fun. Whether it is physical or emotional bullying, it is NOT OK. Whether they are 5, 15 or 50, it is NOT OK.
MN, I hope the situation is sorted out ASAP. My heart goes out to your DS.
Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
I've just had an email back from his teacher, she and DS are going to do a discreet walk around the classes to see if DS can recognize the children involved.
Also when the PE teacher received the email she sent to the teachers about the hat incident he immediately bought a spare hat down for DS to borrow so he could play on the playground today.
They also have a program where children attend the OHSC building at lunch etc if they have anxiety or don't cope well in the playground. While she doesn't think DS needs it from that perspective she offered for him to invite a friend to visit there for a day or so until the can sort out the issues, but she left it up to DS to visit if he wanted to
I feel she is being very proactive and I am thankful for that
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
Small Victory but one that made my little preppie exceedingly happy - another check of lost property this arvo revealed his lost hat. Have never seen a little man so happy with a hat :)
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
Glad he found his hat MN! Dd was upset as she thought she had lost her new purple bottle we searched the classroom and lost property only to find it in her bag when we got home. It's grandparents day tomorrow and my dad is able to go dd will be so happy to have him there.
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
What a great idea with Grandparents Day. Not sure if our school does this.
Thanks for your kind words and support girls, it's helped me soldier on last night and today. Appreciate coming in here and reading your kind posts xx
DS had a great day today, helped by the fact that due to hot weather they stayed inside but nevertheless it was a great day for him
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
MN really sorry to read that DS is struggling with bad tempered kiddies. I hate when kids are mean, it breaks my heart. Sadly, I am stressing about being on the other end - I'm worried that DD is going to be one of the mean kids :( I might have a quick chat about it with her teacher - I've seen her being bossy to other kids in the playgroup and I know how she gets when she doesn't get her way so... Yeah, I'm worried she's not going to handle these social situations properly. All part of them learning about how to handle these situations I guess but I'd rather we are all on top of it. I talk lots with her about how things she does and says can upset or hurt other people and how we like to look after our friends and be nice to everyone. I hope she'll get there eventually.
And how funny about the hat - we lost DD's hat for a while too and then found it hiding in DH's car ( :wall: ) but she's gotten really antsy about it now - "Mummy where's my hat, don't forget my hat, I can't lose it again!"
Anyway, it sounds like your DS is doing pretty well under the circumstances. It's great that the teacher is aware and doing things - are you happy with how they are handling it? And how lovely that his friends are looking out for him.
We haven't heard about grandparents day. I'm assuming we will have something soon.
We also haven't had any sort of parent teacher interview type things.
So a question about Easter. What's the protocol gift-wise? Nothing, anything, something small???
We are almost at the end of term. I thought DD was going ok but then today she has been teary and losing it over tiny things. I can't wait for end of term. She needs to sleep. And play outside. And watch TV. And relax. Eat pancakes and not get out of her PJs til lunch time. And not brush her hair if she doesn't need to.
And so do I
How's everyone else going in the lead up to end of term??
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
We're there with you OP.
Depends on the school really. Our principle doesn't like any religious festivals celebrated, so our kids don't really do much in terms of making/sharing stuff. No gifts. In others it's expected.
We also don't do parent teacher interviews until term 3.
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
I had no plans re Easter gifts, thought I might send a few bags of Freddos in for DSs bday though. I have most of the school holidays off - yay!! Looking forward to having a couple of dates with DS while DD stays in care for the morning, movies etc
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
Dd is so tired she cried when her brother changed the channel on her tonight, she was sobbing her heart out on the floor! Some kids gave out eggs last year but it's too much effort for me and my kids get enough! No one has handed out anything on their birthdays either in class with dd2 yet but they are in dd1's. We didn't as we had all the class except three of them at the party anyway.
Re: Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2014 Chat
We talk too much :)
New thread time. You'll find it here.
