Foundation (Prep/Kinder) 2015 - Chat

looking forward to DS going back to school - the meltdown tantrums have been ridiculous. He lost it this afternoon when I had to go out to the chiro & was going fruit & veg shopping on the way home and I wasn't going to buy a roast for tea. Apparently we were supposed to have one last night & we didn't have any roasts in the freezer to have today instead. He also had one when I brought the rubbish bin in when I got back from the shop. It's been meltdowns over nearly everything and anything over the past week (no idea if he was like this on his first week as I was still teaching at different school - his school had a training week for the staff so he gets 3 weeks off). Decided to try the new Caruso's Kids Calm stuff as his behaviour has been just off the planet. Hitting/Kicking me & throwing anything & everything around the house when he doesn't get what he wants. It hasn't been this extreme until now. Only had 3 days of it and hoping it kicks in a bit more soon. Today has been reasonably mild in regard to meltdowns.

We have done a lot of movies though last week. We saw Minions as a family (there are 3 birthdays at the start of July in my extended family), Inside Out (I had a freebie ticket & took DS1 only with) & Home (as a birthday party for DS1's best friend from childcare).

Im looking forwards to school going back, apart from the early mornings!
But then I guess I get the evenings to myself with the earlier bed times

DD1 enjoyed her holidays. I work 3 days a week so she went to the school holiday program on the days i work, which she loves (she went last hols too).
First day back yesterday and she enjoyed it ☺

DD1 celebrated 100 days of Prep last Monday! She was chosen to be the class representative at the whole school assembly and got to speak in front of everyone. They had a free dress day, special pizza lunch and a trip to the park near the school as a reward. She's loving school.

Well done to your DD GW - I think is great when schools use the assemblies to give the kids a chance to participate and demonstrate really practical skills like speaking in front of an audience. I have heard a few people talk about first 100 days but I don't think they did it at DD's school (I am a bit of a killjoy and think there is way to much celebration these days so wasn't something I was fussed about). DD is still loving school, and is really enjoying the choir afterschool - they are doing Bruno Mars Count on Me and is very cute listening to her teaching it to DS and them both singing it - it wasn't a song I knew so is nice to be introduced to something new too.

She has finally been moved up levels in readers to bring home - I had to prompt them to check, as she just wasn't doing it because not interested as the books were too easy and boring, and they moved her up skipping a level so was right to prompt it seems. She has been a bit more interested with the books she has brought home the past few days as a better level - but still not that interested or she sits there going through it and says "I'm reading it my head mum, like Daddy does" -- mmm not quite what the teachers mean by practicing reading at home. Anyway she is interested in reading other stuff, like lyrics for choir, joke books, or books that are more like dialogue/plays so she can do voices. I can't remember the last time we looked at the sight words but she seems to be moving through the levels rapidly without us so will just let her be on that. She went through the Count on Me lyrics and underlined sight words in the relevant colors - so is just displaying an interest in them in a different way I suppose and I thought that was kind of neat.

Our school assembly is run by the Senior kids, which i think is pretty cool.

DS is off tonight at his first school disco! Sounds like drop off was fine, told DH he could go after they bought the glow sticks they had on sale.
He's also moved up reader level this week :) teacher hasn't had a chance I suspect to check his reading skills until this week, we'd suggested in his reading folder that he was reading to go up too. There's 28 in the class with an aide for some of the time.

DD went to her first school disco tonight too. We were at work (Camp Australia drop them off and pick them up as Foundation one is at 3:45 - 4:45) so she had to do the whole money and glow sticks bit herself - seems to have done ok but short one dollar :-) . She really enjoyed it.

Our school the senior kids run at least part of the assembly every week I believe and lots of different year levels deliver the sports report which is fun as it is in French so have to listen carefully to work out who won.
