I have a new pet hate: torrential rain at school drop off time. Grrrrr! Wouldn't be so bad if I only had DS1 to look after (we still have to walk preps to and from their classroom), but it's a total PIA with DS3 (5 months) on board! I'm so glad I bought DS1 a good little raincoat a few weeks ago!
It always seems to rain here too at 3.00 p.m lol. Saw the cutest thing this morning, DD has made a friend and she was away yesterday, this morning she comes up to DD and says "sorry I wasn't here yesterday". DD is so happy that she can now go to school on Wednesday's too.

Very proud of my little dd. she received a you can do it award at parade the other week :))
She has settled in beautifully at school and we only had one day where she was a little sad. Also parade day and award day. I think she was a little overwhelmed by it all
I'm getting used to not having any children at home. Some days are still super boring tho. Thankfully dh works rotating shifts of 4 on 4 off. We are getting some nice time together
Rainy day pick ups and drop offs are a nightmare for us too. Wrangling two kids is painful! Both times we've been caught in the rain Miss R and I ended up drenched! Not looking forward to winter :-/
This is our last Wednesday together as Miss R starts 5 days next week, well Monday is a public holiday in Melbourne so she will still have a 4 day week. As a treat we went out for breakfast and are currently having a play at the park.
Yesterday we had parent/teacher interviews and DD is settling in well. Just got to work on her reading and voice projection when talking in front of the class.

Last rainy day it took me 30 mins to get home, it usually takes 10-15mins.
I'm hating the 30c plus pick ups. I need to get to school early so i can get a park so then we hang around for 30ish mins in the heat & that just makes the morning sickness so much worse.
It's a nightmare. I can't wait to school holidays lol
DD gave me a heart attack yesterday. Normally we walk into the classroom and the teacher doesn't let the children leave until she see's their parent. The classroom was empty and the student teacher said the children were outside with the teacher, there was only one child with her when I got there. Thinking she has gone to the 5/6 area to get her sister, nope, not there. Try the playground, nope, start to panic. Go around to the front of the school and she's walking up with one of the mums. Apparently she'd crossed the road and was waiting for me at the car calling out "mum". I've now explained that if I'm late she is to go to her sister or wait inside the school grounds. She told me she's a big girl now and that I can just wait for her in the car lol, don't think so.

Just a quick question for you all. Does your preppie have to complete homework each day? I'm fairly certain that my daughter did have to do homework in prep. It was only sight words but she still had to do it. Both of my kids go to a private catholic school (my daughter didn't go to that school when she was in prep) and my son who started this year doesn't have any homework. The teacher said that her class does not do homework. Only problem is the other prep class at the school does do homework which I find really really odd. My daughter is behind in her schooling because she had a really bad prep teacher (didn't care, was late to class sometimes by half and hour every day because she had her own kids sporting commitments etc etc) and it put the entire class back. Now we are playing catch up at a private school and I'm very concerned that my son will be behind because of this teacher. Thoughts????????
DD has her reader to read each night but no homework as such.

We get readers next term, homework not until Term 4 (or maybe 3). But nothing this term.
We have a reader and/ or sight words she is also expected to do reading eggs. The reader can be read by us to her or dd can do it herself.
My DD has little readers to do each night. And sight words. She doesn't HAVE to do it every night, but the teacher asks if they can do it regularly, as in more often than not! DD loves it anyway, so it's not a hassle to get her to do it.
My DD has to do her reader - she reads it to us a few times each night and we were also give the 12 Golden words that she has to practise, but we have been a bit slack with that and she's picked it up really quick from school anyway. IF you are concerned, talk to the teacher about why they don't have it when the other class do? Also you could do something like Reading Eggs and borrow some level 1 and 2 readers from school, or local library. You can also find copies of the Magic 100 words online to print out and help him learn them.
We have a reader, sight words & a laminated piece of paper with lower case letters they can trace over & another one with their name in upper & lower case.
We have 5 sight words each week, little reader, tracing alphabet and number activity each day!!!

Cheshire - I struggle with the heat too! We get early to get a park and I wait in the car as long as possible with the aircon going but still by the time Miss R comes out of her classroom and we get back to the car it has heated up again!
Dianne - OMG, how scary for you! One time DD took ages to come out of her classroom. I saw pretty much all of her class had come out but she was nowhere to be seen! I was so panicked for those few minutes, I can't imagine how much scarier it was for you!
LS - My DD attends a Catholic PS and she has a reader every night plus her sight words. In addition they are allowed to borrow up to two library books per week for leisure reading. It is also encouraged that you get to school by first bell, walk your child in and do more reading prior to second bell. I'd be voicing my concerns to the teacher -when do you have parent/teacher interviews?
I'd look at purchasing reading eggs online or at a bookshop (like Collins Booksellers) to help your child.
We have 2 readers, sight words and sound book. Ds is at a catholic school.
