Irregular cycle and testing

I was sort of expecting AF today (day 31 of cycle), so I took a test, which was negative. My question is, I have an irregular cycle, the last 3 months it has come on day 31 but can vary from 30 to 38 days. AF has not come, I know it could either just be later this month or I could be pg but not high enough level to show up yet. How long should I wait to test again? It's going to be so tempting to test every day but it's such a waste of money and they don't come cheap! Should I just wait and see if AF comes? It's so hard!

Oh it is hard....the anticipation is almost unbearable. I know when I have been in that position, I think about testing all the time. But you are right, it is expensive. Could you wait a week? (I know, it is an eternity) but that would bring you to day 38....Or, can you wait 2 days?!

Thanks. I'm going to try waiting five days...yikes. Going to have to try to keep myself distracted! This is only the second cycle my partner and I have been TTC, so it's all new and overwhelming. I'm betting AF will come tomorrow, so all this will be a bit pointless! Thanks for the well wishes.
