The doctors keep saying - wow, never seen that before....
I have a bit of an embarrassing symptom (like so many in pregnancy). I have come out in a series of massive port wine coloured patches in my pubic hair out to my thighs and it is slowly making it's way down my thighs. It does not hurt, itch or anything else - in fact, if I never looked down or in a mirror I would never know it existed.
It started about 4 days after I found out I was pregnant with one circle the size of a 5 cent piece, it grew to a 50 cent piece and then started spreading.
I saw a doctor, she told me it was fungal and to use canastan - didn't work, doesn't itch.
Saw another doctor, she told me it was heat rash - absolutely is not heat rash. Had heat rash in Japan, heat rash sucks, and is itchy and terribly annoying, and looks like heat rash, not purple spots. It is so not heat rash. Bad doctor refusing to admit she doesn't know an answer - that's how people get misdiagnosed.
Since then, two OBs, one radiologist, two midwives and a handful of nurses have stood around (on different occasions) looking at my pubis shaking their heads and saying things like "well gosh darn - did you ever see anythign like that before - Lordy!"
I am now waiting on a dermatologist referral from the ever organised and switched on staff of the RBWH (so, may never happen).
THe only thing I have found that comes close is a pregnancy complication that is caused by weak capiliaries and increased blood - too much blood bursts the capiliaries and causes little pools that appear as purple spots (usually on hands and feet - no mention of pubis) and then goes away with the birth. My father has Rosea (sp????) which is otehrwise known as a red nose and cheeks due to burst capiliaries (like Santa Clause or an alcoholic - although my dad is neither) so it could be this condition - but it is extremely rare and I like to think that things that are extremely rare are not going to be the most likely explaination for anything.
Anyone got a better one?
