Washing Clothes???
Do I really need to wash all the baby's clothes/sheets/blankets/etc before i use them? Why?
I have no idea what size the baby's going to be and anything that doesn't fit I want to take back for refund or exchange. To do this I have to leave the tags on. So, what should I do?

Hi Heva
I've often wondered why we need to wash things before wearing/using them. I think it's mainly to soften the item, get rid of any smells (from packaging, etc), remove any excess dyes and generally clean them as they no doubt would have been handled by many people before you bought them.
With regards to the baby's clothes and bedding, maybe just wash the bear essentials and leave the rest until you get home from the hospital. Obviously this isn't helping you to be super organised before bubs arrives but it would mean you could then return items that don't fit or aren't appropriate.
HTH!

I think it is to remove any harmful chemicals, dyes etc used during the manufacture. There was a recent scare about formaldehyde use in baby clothes. Bubs skin is very sensitive, so best towash anything that will comein contact. Maybe wash a few things in different sizes (enough to last a couple of days), then when you have bub, DH can get the rest?

Ive washed the babys linen.....and ive got a few unisex bond suits and singlets that i would keep regardless if boy or girl - so have washed them. I have some new pink outfits and some new blue outfits that i wont touch till i know what baby is.
I also think the smell of Lux or purity is much, much more divine than the smell of a dept store.....thats just me....

I don't know why everyone else washes baby clothes etc but I will be because I wash everything before it's worn/used!!

I washed all mine b/c someone told me they needed to be washed before coming into contact with a newborns skin.
I would generally wash anything I bought from the shops before using it anyway. ie/ sheets, towels, clothing etc.
Perhaps if you just wash the things you think you will be taking to the hospital and leave the rest until you get home so if you want to change something you have the option to do so. I have exchanged things with the tag off, but as long as you have the receipt I wouldn't stress too much.
All the best.

hmm, trouble is I don't have that much stuff to start with. I'll definitely wash sheets, blankets and towels as I know they'll fit the cot.. I'm just not too sure what to do with regard to clothes, I apparently need 5 outfits and 5 singlets for the hospital stay, that's most of what I've got so far.
Pumpkin patch at least have said I must leave the tags on if I want to return them.
I'm not too sure about target and other places.
