I started taking it in the 1st tri but as with most "medication" type things...I always forget. As long as you have plenty of leafy greens (I was craving broccoli so was eating heaps of that too) and a good diet in general.
Like everything, it is optional.
oh thanks angelaarststudent. i took it religiously with pg 1, but am forgetfull with taking tablets. i do eat well, so hopefully it works in my favour.
is today your EDD? sending labour vibes your way
I think i stopped half way through 2nd trimester and thought that if I tested low for it at my next appointment I would take it again.
I was eating plenty of vegemite, potatoes and tomaties which are all high in folate.
Hope that helps. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy :)
Folate is most important in the very early days of pg when the spine begins to form - so before you even know you are pg and the following weeks. This is why it's so important if you are TTC (or really for anyone of child bearing age who is DTD jic). After that it is still good to take after that - 85% of females in Australia eat less than the recommended allowance of folate - but it's not as important as the early days. It can be taken right through breastfeeding as well, and in fact, even when not pg or bfing.
Um, yes, i was eating lots of "potato" also.
...in the form of hot chips. And potato gems.
:-S
Yes, today is the day...
thanks manta, i do eat well which helps but i probably should be taking it, i guess
Also, the level of folate in your body builds up over time as you take the tablets. So even if you miss some days, you are doing some good on the days you remember.
