Absorbency?

So cloth nappies are less absorbent than disposables??
Does that mean I'd be doing a lot more changes during the day??
How many do you go through a day? At the moment we go through about 5 sposies a day I think and only 1 change over night.

And what happens over night? Sometimes we have leaks here at night because she wees so much. Would I have to be changing more overnight?? Bc I would hate to do that, it wakes her up too much.

And when they get wet does the moisture get off their skin like in sposies or do they feel really wet? IYKWIM. I can't imagine how it just wouldn't be all wet and stinky. What I need to do is try some I know!! lol. But thought I'd ask you all anyway.

hun i change millie around the 2 hour mark, i change more often than if she were in a sposie

i find i go through maybe 1 more a day with DD she is a big wetter aswell
and i dont need to change over night at all, her night nappy (pop in) lasts 14 hours on her.

their skin doesnt feel wet feels teh same as a sposie.

we still use them for school and when we are away for the weekend.

If you get a proper night nappy, you won't have to change it. They are good for about 12-14 hours in a heavy wetter depending on type of nappy you get.

Depends on what they are lined with. Suedecloth is a stay dry fabric for example, but if they were in bamboo or whatever, they would feel wetness. I think most of my nappies are lined with microfleece, and I'm pretty sure thats a stay dry fabric too. So they aren't sitting in their stinky pee ;)

Ok thanks girls! I think I'm going to order a couple to try today!! Yay!! Have been researching and am totally confused but oh well, lol.

Oh, and I'm liking the idea of pocket nappies. Any suggestions for a few to try first, ones that seem to fit most bubs well? Slim ones?

The slimmest pocket in my stash is my swaddlebees. However, I don't like stuffing it cos I can only just get my hand in there to stuff it.. LOL.. so trim also means, trim to stuff ;)

Plus - DH wont' stuff that one cos he can't physically get his hand into the pocket, which means that I always have to stuff it. With our other ones, I usually get him to stuff them cos I hate touching microfibre :p

I have HEAPS of pockets, I love them. My stash is lots of green kids, a few happy heiny's, ecobubs, couple of swaddlebees, bumgenius.. umm.. trying to think what is in the drawers at the moment.... preggo brain... nope its gone.. LOL

Monkey doodlez do a trim pocket nappy as well - but OMG - talk about difficult to stuff - even harder than the swaddlebees.

This is just based on my experience though!

sorry to hijack SJ but what night nappies do you girls recommend? in particular for Miss D? (2.5yrs)

The favs in our house are Snoozywuns, GK minky times, GF super nights, GNST, Ticklefish Tots.. I think thats the majority - we have a couple.. LOL

I love my pop in nappy, I think that it is the best nappy I have ever used, I wish I had bought more of these instead of certain other brands that 'looked prettier'.

Alot of people try changing to cloth during the day first then battle night times, however I personally think that it is easier doing nights as a good night nappy will last all night, so no changing. I use baby beehind bamboo with a Maz cover, have since the start and NEVER had a leak or a problem at all.

I use GreenKids - love them! They're lined with microfleece so bub doesn't feel the wetness. They're pretty trim but I did find that as a newborn, they were a bit too bulky. We go through about 7-8 per day but DS is a big wetter and frequent pooer :redface:

For nights, I must confess that I just use a sposie - never tried the GK. I'm sure it would be fine but we have better peace of mind using a sposie at night. You could always try cloth during the day at first and see how you go.

One of the best decisions we made was going with cloth nappies - we've saved heaps of $ and hopefully saved some landfill too!

Heaven - I have just started MCN adventure too :) I am changing Zander about 7 times a day - so 8 times, but all mine are relatively new so only reaching their absorbency about now about a months rotation of use.

I haven't ventured into a night nappy - only reluctance is like at the moment Z is teething so his bottom is a bit sore so at night I like to put some zinc or pawpaw etc on it and by morning it is good as new again.

Someone point me in the right direction and I would give it a go - I find night nappies confusing with how much to put in them etc and the ones recommended only have stockings and i have only just found out what they are :rofl:

Oh, and I love them. I love the Ecobubs (my by far favourtie) and Itti D'lish - also the greenkids for absolute fool-proof-ness :)

Oh, and I thought it was just me with the skin crawl with the Eco bubs LOL - Heiny's too - eeeeewwww ... :)

Oh I wished I lived in Australia !!!!! I am making my own nappies and all these wonderfull fabrics are not ready avalible here yet :( BUT I am saving to order me some super cool night nappies from Aus .... I'll make my own day nappies, but are not convident about the night ones yet.

I just wanted to point out that Green Kids are lined with suedecloth - not microfleece ;)

Once you go to the dark side SJ - you'll never go back.

Sami - you can use the Ecobubs over night - I think you would be fine teaming it with their microfibre insert and a green kids bamboo insert. I use that during the day for DS, but I'm sure I could get away with it at night too. Plus you'll have the protection of a wool cover - and no need to lanolise - bonus!! ;)

Ok - Mel this is prob another q for you! - I just got microfibre inserts with the GK's but I'm thinking I should get some bamboo too - should I get another couple of liners and boosters too? :confused:
