Enid

So I love names that have some stage been in the top 1000, that are easy to spell and pronounce and not cause much confusion. I love things like Piper, Amelia, Lucy, Violet....and I secretly love Enid. But I wonder if it's too much for a kid. It's not had a comeback yet like Edie or Evie. I do have a friend that just named her baby Ivy...another old name that hasn't had a comeback. I think she's brave but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to fess up to Enid, let alone go through with it if I have a girl...

I think Enid is beautiful. I love old names too.

If you are hestitant about using Enid, then maybe you can use it as a middle name??

But really it doesn't matter what you call your child as long as you like it, thats all that matters. These days there are so many unusual individual names that I don't think it matters as much in this day and age.

I too really love the old style names......really like stella if we were to have a girl. I am a fan of Ivy, it was my grandmothers middle name........I mentioned it once & my mum almost fell of her chair LOL she was not a fan.

I think Enid is cute, but would want to be 100% sure first. I once worked with a lovely lady called enid. She was tiny & just soooo nice. The name gives me "warm fuzzies". I also love the other names you mentioned - Lucy being my fav (but that's my mum & dad's dogs name) & am a huge fan of evie atm too. goodluck.

I had to come into this thread cause Enid was my mum's name and her mum's too and they were both such beautiful people. Having said that mum didn't like her name much LOL and I was glad she didn't call me that too.

If you love it, and she suits it, go for it! I think Enid is a beautiful name, and she will prove to have the strength of character to pull it off

FYI too - Enid (Eneit) is Welsh, and literally translated it means "soul" or "purity" - the word it is derived from means "to breathe" - perfect for a daughter I think :)

I LOVED Enid, it was my top name choice - I was dead set on it and argued with DH for a solid three months over it. I love the meaning, I love the vibe, I love the sound of it. I even love Enid Blyton. LOL Unhappily DH flatly refused. (He was o/seas for most of that time - i reckon I could've worn him down better if he was at home LOL). We ended up with an Elisabeth instead. I think Enid will be making a comeback VERY SOON. Get in now before it's too popular again, I reckon.

Enid is really cute! A lot of the old names have or are making a comeback - Ruby, Grace, Isobella/Isobel, Ivy, Rose, Elsie (our choice for a middle name), etc.

Your baby will suit the name you choose and don't worry what others say. Another name you might like to consider is Eden. It sounds a bit like Enid but has a bit of a modern spin to it.

My Grandmother was known as Enid even though it was her middle name... her first name was Florence and back in those days the abbreviation "Flo" was quite common... and she just didn't like it. She also was a very calm and patient person.

I also love old fashioned names and have brought back quite a few with my children (middle names included). Having worked in an ELC I have heard many "old fashioned names" in use again: Harriet, Trudie (full name Gertrude), Connie (fullname Constance) and Hester. So really Enid will most likley fit right in because I'm sure the trend will continue. I reeeeeally like Edith as a name but my DH vetoed it as well.

I love Enid - it's beautiful! Ihad Edith on my list as well as Enid!
Another that loves old fashioned names and all my children's names reflect that!:)

Yes, I was very keen on Harriet for a while... I even suggested Harriot... but still no go :( Oh well... ended up having two boys...

All the more reason for using it! My DP has suggested several lovely old-fashioned girls names (if Pipsqueek is of the pink variety) however I'm not keen as they all seem to be really popular already.
My favourite girl's name is a no-go for us cos it just sounds awful with DPs surname (and I'm adamant we'll be using his surname for a number of reasons....). Luckily there's a similar sounding old-style name that goes perfectly - with the added bonus of being Scots-Irish - with DPs Irish surname :D

Bath, ... my Nana was also a Florence as you mentioned commonly known as Flo for those days, though she was a simple woman & Flo she didn't mind (though myself on the other couldn't stand my surname so changed it thru deed-poll at the legal age of 18 at the time ;)) ... I went to school with a Harriet she had the exact same hair as you Bath & i remember she loved to dance !!)
