Nappy Cover Fabric
So I'm on my Quest to clothesize (yeah it's a word) my DS. I have patterns for AIO's coming from Canada, but I'm having a really hard time to get my hands on PUL.
I have checked out the internet and WOW so many choices, but non of them is cost effective. So if I were to use regular PVC waterproof fabric, would that work???
See in my eyes I don't think PVC can "breath", but I don't know. I can get LOADS of nicely coloured and printed PVC fabric that would look awesome on a little butt.
What other material can I use as a hidden layer, or outer layer for that matter??
Any ideas

hi nadine
i would not go PVC it doesnt breathe and will create an environment for rashes and infections.
NOt to mention possible allergic reactions.
Why dont you knit wool covers?
or Fleece covers?
And make fitteds?
i am sure some of the WAHM mums can help but i think if you had a maiden mills fleece outer this could work on an AIO?

Yeah I thought so too, about the PVC :(
Ok, fleece ... that sounds good. Is that regular Polar fleece? Oh BTW .. what side is the right side on polar fleece?? I made a pocket diper with a polar fleece outer and one wash and it got little pils on it :(
Knit  I'm just turning domestic goddess :p and are currently rediscovering my knitting skills, or rather lack there of. Any idea where I can get a pattern?? Silly me and colour me purple, but is woolcovers waterproof??? Like don't go through on clothes??

drop into the cloth nappy thread! there are some girls there that make their own nappies.
mm i dont know about polar fleece as in outer in a AIO... i def know maiden mills can be used.
Wool - as long as it is 100 % wool (8 or 12 ply) and you lanolise the cover then yep it is water proof.
Wool holds a huge amount of water and the lanolin helps to neutralise the urine and aids its evapouration.
I knitted my own wool shorties and used them on night nappies - 13 hours in 1 nappy and under pj's
DD would wake with a drenched nappy, the wool cover felt wet but clothes dry
really is something you wont believe until you try lol!

Interesting ... I'll check out the woolshop, and the net for some patterns!!! Wool longies might be fun for winter, yeah?
I'll also google maiden mills, no I'm not just pretending to be a novice!!
Thanks PP :)

polar fleece will pill if you wash if its a cheap quality....micro fleece is a really good effective material to get and it doesnt pill.
DO NOT us PVC hon.....would you be happy with plastic on your butt???
if your worried about compression leaks with fleece you could use 3 layers of fleece
