Awake every hour last night...what's going on????

I need some reassurance I am not a complete failure when it comes to DD and sleep! Last night she woke more times than I can count, and DH and I feel like death this morning (more accurately I feel like I have been drinking Tequila and smoking and clubbing all night!)

She still feeds in the night, so i fed her when she woke at 11 and 2am, but then woke an hour later, so I cuddled her and put her down awake, and she settled off to sleep for like 10mins and would be awake again whinging. This went on between 3 and 7am with me trying to feed her to sleep without success. She ended up in bed with us at about 5 am but even then kept waking every sleep cycle.

Seriously. What is her problem? I have cut out all caffein...she doesn't even look like she's teething and hasn't acquired any new skills recently.

Arrgghhhh...she is getting worse as she gets older not better. When, oh when, oh when can I have some sleep????????

Sorry for the vent. I think I will cry ifI have this conversation with my mum or my mothers group again.

Hun you are doing a great job - and what she is doing is completely normal. Increadibly frustrating, but normal.
I promise it doesn't last forever! It could be a number of things keeping her from sleeping, at her age there is often things like developmental changes, teething etc so hang in there! Youre not a failure!

:rofl: I wish that was the cause of how I feel this morning :D Similar age and similar issues. I am almost falling asleep in the chair this morning because of the recent poor sleep and constant feeding overnight (and through the day but that is another post :rolleyes:) My little one - she is teething, she is developmentally reaching the sitting stage and is frustrated lying flat and resisting being held upright (wants to do it herself), she is vocalising and she is having another growth spurt :rolleyes: Consequently, she isn't sleeping and neither am I. While it might not seem like she is doing anything different, she may be gearing up to it and that is enough to throw her sleeping off.

It does get better. I am hanging for the 6 month mark where they change again and sleep longer through the day (and night) and become more predictable for a little while.

Hang in there. It does get better :hug:

I feel the same. It feels like DDs sleep is just getting worse with age, not better. But I am in a bad mood we had a bad night too.

Oh Michelle im :pray: that this happens to ds soon. He has never been the best sleeper day or night and the night he turned 6 months he woke up at 230 and was up till almost 5 when i managed to get him back to sleep till 7. I really needed the sleep that night too.

Anna DD behaviour is completely normal and it is very frustrating when you hear of these babies that sleep so well and yours is up all night.

I feel your pain! My DS only last night finally slept for 6 hrs straight!! it has been nearly a month of waking nearly every hour overnight! It does get better, Dont know what his problem was, no new teeth, maybe a growth spurt? but its all normal. Hugs hun, youre not alone xx

We had a shocking night with ds2 last night as well... i think i was up every 1/2 hour either feeding him or putting the dummy back in.. ahhhhhh i need sleep!

I wish i could tell you it all stops at a certain age and your DD will sleep all night through but unfortunately that hasn't been the case for us :wall: DS1 is nearly 3 and he's only just started sleeping through the night without waking, we had a shocker of a time with him too so i'm not holding out much hope that ds2 will improve any time soon :doh:

BUT i can tell you that you're doing a wonderful job and you are NOT a failure!! I know its hard but things will eventually get better. I find ds goes through phases where he'll be an awsome sleeper for a week or two (he was sleeping 11 hours straight at one point!!) and then he'll be shocking for a few months :rolleyes:
Teething and growth spurts definitely make him worse. Do you think your DD could be teething?
Hang in there, try and have a snooz when she has her day naps if you can. Sorry i can't be more help but just wanted to let you know you're not alone. When i'm up resettling DS2 at 1am, 2am, 3am.. i like to think of all the other mummies that are probably up at the same time cursing under their breath (or out loud lol) just like me :lol:

sooo many things that we will never figure out LOL will keep them up & down at night, but they will get to an age where they do sleep better & several night wakings will usually mean somethings not right eg....ear infection, teeth, growth spurt & so on.

My DS got his first 2 teeth at just over 5months, we didn't expect it so when he woke every hour or so for two nights in a row we just didn't know what to do. IL's were visiting so they rocked him during the day etc whilst we rested & I remember clearly thinking gosh it hasn't been like this since 6wks!!!! then pop out came 2 teeth & we figured it out. So it could be something like that or just a comfort thing.

Oh no, i just started a thread about starting solids and sudden night waking. Ds has been constantly waking at night (not hungry, just whingy) and it coinsided with the introduction of solids so i thought maybe there was a link. Atleast we are in it together and i'll give you all a thought when i am up hourly with you all tonight ;)

Could be teeth or an ear ache. Has she seemed unwell?

Might also be that she's really hungry. I know that people say to wait until 6 months to start solids but she's almost there and might be ready. I know my DD was ready at about 5 months.

You're not a failure though, babies just go through these stages.

My MHCN says that the new advice suggests solids from 4 months is a good idea (at least for some babies, evidently). I'm not certain of the reasons - something to do with allergies, I think. Not that we're close to that yet, with DD (nearly 7 weeks old now).

Anna, I feel for you. Hope you all get more sleep tonight. Can you and your partner take it in turns, maybe with one of you sleeping elsewhere, so at least someone is getting some sleep? One of the things that helps us stay sane with a newborn is having DH get more sleep at night, but be able to take DD for a while while I catch up somewhat during the day.

The allergies and early commencement of solids are two different things. Last year a baby food company sponsored a MCHN education session where they were informed the WHO guidelines for commencement of solids was about to change. They aren't. Just a convenient *education* session to promote their product. Be dubious and check where their change of practice has come from.

As for the allergies, there is now some evidence to suggest the delay for introducing certain foods is probably of no value (except for honey due to botulism). So, for example, you could introduce eggs / nuts etc when you feel ready to rather than after a certain time frame with no difference in allergy rates. If you will be allergic, you will be allergic.

Ultimately, we all get conflicting advice on solids and it probably will change for every child you have :rolleyes: Just do what suits your baby and what you feel comfortable with.

I think its hard when you think you're onto a good thing, and then it all changes again (for the worse!). DD is a great self-settler these days, so I am surprised she can't seem to resettle at all at the moment.

MrsB26 - DD also just started solids...hmmm...I didn't think of that!!

My favourite thing about babies though, is that nothing ever stays the same for long...
