Natural Birth Noah 29th May -
Hello everyone,
I was 7 days past my EDD and was booked in for a CS at 8am the following morning as bubby would not engage his head into the pelvis. After going out for dinner with our two children as a bit of a last hoorah we had come home and I was pottering around making sure I had all my things done that I wanted to.
While watching the news in bed, bubby moved and I had a funny clicking popping sort of sensation. I got up and went to the toilet and I had a bit of a show, I told my hubby and thought there was no need to worry as with my son the show came three days before I went into labour. He wanted to know how much of a show, so I said, I will show you as I can't describe it properly anyway. Once I sat down on the toilet there was a tinkle tinkly noise... my husband is like... WHat? I say to him well I am not doing a wee, my waters broken!!
We ring the hospital and they say to come straight in as we had some issues with a prolapse cord as bubby had not engaged his head. So I ring my mother, who lives an hour away to come to the hospital to collect our two older children (8&6)and off we go to hospital.
Once arriving they put me on the monitor and we wait, chat to the kids who are very excited, before long mum and dad arrive and take the children back home to bed, who have now also wrangled a day off school as they were awake till 1.30am. And we went to sleep at the hospital.
From 2.30am to 3.30 I had contractions every 10 mins and by 3.30 I couldn't sleep in between them anymore and called the midwife. After an examination I was 3cm. I asked for an epidural at this point, but was told it would slow things down considerably and if I could go another hour that would be better. So I agreed to try for an hour with hopping in the shower. Once in the shower the contractions very quickly went from 7-5 mins apart to 2-3 mins apart and very intense. I told my husband that I could have done an hour with 5 min contractions but not every 2 mins and after half an hour we called the midwife back. She decided it was time to move us from our room to the delivery room.
Once i hopped out of the shower the contractions became extreme, oh I just couldn't handle it, and I wanted that epi now!! They rang my doctor who was comming in as I was now 5-6 cm quite a progressions for a half hour. The doctor took around 20 mins and as soon as she walked in the door, I was begging, please epi now, quick..
The doctor examined me and I was 6cm, but my cervix was super thin and very soft, so she wanted to push against it with the next contraction. I didn't want this as I just wanted pain relief now and I knew her course of action was going to mean no epi for me With the next contraction my cervix jumped 2more cm with the doctor pushing it open and the contraction after that we went to 10cm and I was told I could push.
I was very upset, I was sort of crying you know that exhausted wimper stuff saying I didn't want to have him with no pain relief and I couldn't do it. When my husband got my attention to snap me out of my sooking winge and said there is no time, lets push and meet our son. And with that I started to push.
The first push didn't seem to do much except it stopped the pain of the contraction, something I was very interested in, and then there was enormous pressure on my bottom and when I pushed again I could feel him crowning. One continuous push and three big breaths through it and the head was delivered, with the next contraction his shoulders and body and my gorgeous boy was placed on my chest. It was 5.37am. he was 8lb 13oz (4015g) 52cm long and head of 36.5cm and just beautiful!
I was very glad to have no stitches (i had stitches of 2nd degree tear with both previous babies)and due to no drugs it was a very quick recovery and I felt fantastic pretty much straight away.
My best friend is a birth photographer and she only just made it in for a couple of push shots and then he was born. Here is the link if you would like to watch. There are no graphic bits so is ok to watch if you kids are in the room. Just scroll down till you see the play button
