123 Magic Program
- Have you used it?
- Did it work....how did you find it?
- If not, why do you think it didnt work?
- How long did it take to work for you
- What age was you child?
I currently have Chelsea in this program as she is displaying challenging behaviour. The development team are giving her 2-3 weeks to improve, and if she hasnt then she will be booked in for a full behavioural and development assessment.
TIA :)

Tiny bit OTT but - did you attend the course or did they just give you a DVD?
Reason I ask is that we attended 2 x 3 hour course and one of the best things we got out of it was being there with other parents and not feeling so alone about having a nutbag ;)child.
I imagine just watching the DVD would be a little bit 'dry'. We had the chance to discuss various issues with the group and I found alot of value in that part of it too.

kim i read the book a few months ago as time out doesnt work for sophie.
we only use it for the stop behaviour and not the start behaviour as she's too young.
yes it works!!! we found it great and she soon learnt! we often only have to count to 2 and she stops, we still have to oput her in her room but not often, i think its very important that you and craig both read the book or watch the DVD you need to both understand the technique~!
goodluck!

I attended a course on it like Lulu. I'll admit at first, after watching the intro dvd with those 'perfect kids' I thought 'yeah right' but afterwards when I started to use it I found it REALLY DID work.
Have you used it?
Yes and still do to this day
Did it work....how did you find it?
It worked after much persistance on my part, I found it really hard work at first. I can be quite lazy with things like that but I perservered and found it was fantastic.
If not, why do you think it didnt work?
How long did it take to work for you
about a week, maybe more until they realised I was serious about it lol.
What age was you child?
From memory they were 7, 5 & 2. So the 2 year old has just grown up with 123 magic going in our house.
I tweaked some things in it to suit myself but get the same results. At first I had problems with getting DS to his room, I found I'd do the 123 then say go to your room and hten do anohter 123 to get him there. So in the end I found as long as he went away from me it was still acceptable. I very rarely get to 3 these days though which is fantastic.
I'd love to do a refresher on it because I have forgotten some of it. I might hunt out the book.

tinkerbell i borrowed the book from a friend who borrowed it from the library

Lulu, i have the team come to me rather then in a group scenario. This week they explained the program briefly.
Next week when they return im getting the DVD.
Chelsea just laughs at us when we put her in time out, or counts back at us.

Mate, I'd find a course to go to. It would be a hell of a lot better than having someone briefly explain it to you.
We watched the DVD together, stopped at various points to discuss each part. Again, being in the same room with other parents was good for the sanity ;)
We did it and modified it too, but like I said on FB you need to be RIGIDLY consistent. If the cheeky monkey counts back (hey she can count!) to you etc etc etc, even though it does your head it, try NOT to react, keep your voice even and keep at it.
DS has lots of trouble with his hair trigger temper. Timeout sucked a bit, until I worked out 2-3 minutes wasn't going to do a thing. Sometimes I sat at the door with him for timeout (yep, worked), but as he got to about 4 I found putting him in his room for at least 20 mins worked like a charm - he needed alot longer to settle down and find something else to distract himself. He usually comes out rather charming and feeling heaps better.
It's ok to modify it a bit. DD was one of those 'perfect', timeouters. Plop her in her room and she would stay there and come out a new, happy kid. I thought it worked like that for ALL kids. What a rude shock I got!

kim there are courses on at the moment around the suburbs!
-
What is this 123 program?
Where can I get more information?
-
I did it as a CC worker, and loved it.
As my lot got older, the time out at 3 didn't work, so I changed it to a "loss" if I got to 3.
Like no dessert, toy in the bin (for GOOD,) no playstation etc....
I just say 1 now... even on the phone I just hold up 1 finger, they know!!!! ;)
(I meant, if I'm on the phone and they are playing up, I hold up one finger to them, .....not that they can see me over the phone holding it up!!!!! Hehehe)
