Time for a new carrier - any suggestions?

Blue was the original HAB baby and it absolutely saved my sanity for quite a while there.
But I think at nearly 7.5kg he is a bit big for the HAB as it just won't stay tight anymore.

He doesn't go in it much - he is generally happy to kick back on his mat if I have to get some jobs done but it would be great to have a carrier DF or I can use when we are out and about and we don't want to use the pram (or have forgotten it more like).

We have a RYCO carrier that was a gift which is similar to a baby bjorn but we aren't big fans of it at all....cuts into our shoulders and blue seems to be leaning back in it and looks pretty uncomfortable.

Really want something that can be worn front or back - is comfy for us AND blue and really supportive.

Blue is very heavy and very long so not sure what would work.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

What about a Ergo?? I personally haven't used one, I am going to the expo this weekend and hopefully will get to try on a few there and get a new one for this bub coming. I have 2 baby bjorn's....the sports ones and the one with the back support and with DS they were perfect for me but could only wear them for short amounts of time cause I found they weren't supportive for me.

I know that doesn't help but maybe go into your local baby store and try on what they have with Blue that way you actually get to feel what they are like with him in them and whether you will be able to withstand it.

I swear by Ergo baby carriers! I love mine, it puts the weight of your bub on your hips rather than your shoulders. You can wear it on your front, back and hip.

I have only used on back once as i couldnt manage to get him in there without assistance but i know others do! It was so comfortable and apart him pulling my hair i couldnt feel he was there!!!

We generally use on front easy to use

I have heard so many great things about the ERGO - had a really quick look at it when we bought the HAB but they didn't have any in stock then....

Are they easy to use and ok for big babies? Up to what weight / age can you use them?

I love the ERGO too - but I also have a mei tai which I have found really good. Front and back carry and small enough to fold up under the pram. DH has used it too so it can't be too bad ;) See if you can try on a few to see which suits.

ETA - ERGO is easy to use and put on. I use both the ERGO and mei tai for DS who is 2yo and 12kg. I have used the ERGO for my 4yo niece for back carry and the weight limit is 40lb (I think that was it on the DVD :think:) which is roughly 20kg (if you want to carry them for that long ;))

weight is something crazyy like 25kg if you want to carry a child that big!

Ergo!!! and yep as far as I know up to 20kgs... It is ultra comfy and I still do front carries with DS who is about 10.5kgs and I am pregnant... I have to move him to the back soon... But it is the best.

If both of you are going to use it, you need something that will suit both of you - so either the ergo or a meitai would be perfect for you. Plus they both have versatility in that they can be worn in a front or back carry (meitai also on the hip - not sure if an ergo can be worn like that? prolly not I think) plus the ergo has a newborn insert, so you can use it now for Blue, but also when you have a new bub too.

Ergo can definitely do a hip carry.

just a thought - I use my hugabub for hip carry. my girls are pretty small for their age but they are 9kg so sounds like they are bigger than your DS at the moment.
I know you are only supposed to front carry with it but I have had a play around with mine and have found a really comfy hip carry. Worth a shot. Have a look at baby k'tan website and look at the video for hip carry - that is what inspired me to use my hugabub like that.
Have also heard good things about ergo. Was going out to get that when I bought my hugabub. the sales lady talked me out of the ergo. kind of wish I had got it now but never mind...

Dee - knowing how big your other half is - you might want to look into getting the sport ergo - I need the sport one cos DH can't wear the normal one (he's 6 foot 7) because the straps aren't long enough over the shoulders.

Plus its like, black, so very fashionable for men.. LOL

dee- we still carry lewis in the ergo now and you've seen the size of him. dh did the 1000 steps a few weeks back with lewis in the ergo on his back. it's fantastic, worth every dollar in my opinion.
