just wondering if anyone has used Castor oil to induce labor??? if so did it work??
I can only reply from what the midwife who did my antinatal classes told us.
She tried it about 20 years ago, got severe diarrhea and vomiting (at the same time). She went into labour the next day and the ob told her there was day old meconium in the amniotic fluid, which was caused by the castor oil.
This is 2nd hand info, but she told us not to try it.
Its the only old wives tale that my OB made me promise NOT to try to bring on labour.
She said it will just make you feel like utter crap and you'll spend all night on the toilet, and it may not even work anyway. She said to stick to more positive things ;)
Not advisable hun. The theory behind castor oil is to empty the bowel and allow for bub to drop further down. Castor oil dehydrates you and makes you uncomfortable. This is not want you want when you'll be doing as much work as a marathon runner!!!!
Go the EPO's and lots of sex
i did it and it worked
its not to empty your bowel its to induce cramping which then turns in to contractions. just part of it is that the cramping creates diarohea. that part is yuk
i wouldnt advise doing it, although it was the last resort my M/w uses.
it is a specific ****tail not just taking a swig of castor oil.
It will not work unless your body/baby is ready
have a raging orgasm will do the same thing(jump start the contractions.
BUT your only 38 weeks do not try anything until your 40 weeks as your closer to being ready and you wont stress your baby out either
My XH was told castor oil in orange juice and then talked me into swallowing a glass of it.
However I was hyperemetic, so it went in and came straight back up. No idea if it works.
i was told that this can be quite dangerous and is not advised...
i would stick to other 'safer' methods like epo, rlt (both of which wont induce but will help prep), acupuncture, dtd, walks and then the old wives tales like curry, pineapple (get a juicemade so you get lots of the enzymes - make sure the core is in there) etc
hope it happens soon honey
my doc told me about it lol she said that her sister had just had a baby and thats what she used to kick start labour!!
so i went home and tried it and it did NOTHING lol
and it was so gross, i was struggling to swollow it lol
all the best and i hope you dont have to resort to this, here is hoping you go into labour by yourself xxx
Ugh- I tried it and no it didn't work. Nothing at all will work unless baby is ready. I very much regretted taking it as the consequences were dreadful and I followed the m/w instructions on how to take it. Never again!
