Up 10 kg at 24 weeks!
Hi girls,
I am nearly 24 weeks pregnant with no. 2 baby. With my 1st pregnancy I put on 23 kilograms all up so I was determined from the start of this pregnancy not to put on as much. I have been exercising 4 -5 times a week (either on my treadmill or at the gym), as well as running after my 2 year old daughter. I eat pretty healthy (most of the time) but I have still put on 10 kilogrms already.
I have friends who are pregnant too and they haven't put on that much weight. I have shown really early in both of my pregnancies so people always think I am further along than I am. I suppose evveryone is different......what are your experiences?

I am just over 24 weeks and last pregnancy I had put on 13kgs. When I found out I was PG till now I have lost 7kg's and only just put back on 600gm!! Lol.
-
I would of been close to 10kg heavier around 24 weeks and I put on 20kg all up.
It came off pretty quick though.
I think it's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about :)

Sounds normal to me. I agree with you, I just think every woman is different.
I've been really lucky and (without trying at all) I have only put on 4.5kgs and I'm almost 28 weeks. My sister though, who is shorter than me but very similar in size, put on 20kgs (total) with her first and 17kgs with her second. I was certain I'd be similar to her!
PS: my sister lost the weight easily both times and looks incredible now - one hot mamma that's for sure!

Hi Firstbub
Weight gain in pregnancy can vary a lot from one woman to another. Some women put lots of weight on in early pregnancy whilst others put on the majority of weight later in their pregnancy. Your weight gain does not sound excessive. Try not to compare yourself with other pregnant women as everyone is different.
-
I varied so much with my 4 pg's - I put on 24, 27, 20 and 15 and I did the same amount of exercise and ate the same for all of them. You may not put on all that much for the rest of your pg either.
-
I'm 18 weeks with our first baby and have put on 9kgs already ...so I think you're doing great for 10kgs at 24 weeks
-
Hun I wouldn't be too worried about the weight gain it varies from person to person and from pregnancy to pregnancy.
I have only gained about 4kg so far but I look biggish for 19 weeks, I personally also retain a lot of fluid despite my best water drinking efforts. I think you are lucky to be doing so much exercise and I am sure it will help bring everything back down once your baby is here.
Don't feel bad or compare yourself to others, your body is acting the way your body should and you can always lose the weight after bub comes, just keep doing what your doing and stop stepping on the scales ;)

As everyone has already said, it varies from person to person and even pregnancy to pregnancy. I ate like a horse and did zero exercize with my first (due to a debilitating back injury) and only gained about 8kgs in my whole preg. I was bigger to begin with and my understanding is that if you're already overweight, you gain less because your body 'knows' you don't need the extra fat stores for breastfeeding. The weight didn't come off easily for me at all despite breastfeeding, i weigh 5kgs more now than I did at the start of my last preg! So even if you do gain more than you were expecting that doesn't mean you're unhealthy or that you won't be able to lose the weight.
-
Yeah don't stress, each & everyone is different.
I only put on 6kgs the entire time with DS, but I threw up 24/7 & really did not enjoy it at all. My sister was laughing at that amount when she realised she'd put that on in the first 3months with her first!!!
I'm now 12wks with my second & I couldn't tell you how much as I have not been weighed & we don't have scales.....but I am still wearing all my clothes, but TBH I really don't care. I'm still throwing up heaps so it will be what it will be........though I would love to enjoy just one meal LOL.

Hi Guys
Im so glad I discovered this thread because I was feeling a little worried about my weight gain too. Im 25 weeks & 2 days & id already put on 9kgs at my 20 weeks appointment so id hate to think what my gain is now. Im glad that there are others that seem to have the same issue because all my friends have put on only 10 - 15kgs their entire pregnancy! I am 5 foot 2 inches & weighed about 56kg before I fell pregnant & just like you firstbub I go to the gym 5 days a week & eat very well but nothing seems to make a difference & im getting the same comments like "you mustn't be far away by the looks of things" & im just 6 months! Thanks for making me feel a little better about it.

Hi All,
I am so glad I found this website. Firstpreg and Kell77 I am just like you, very fit, healthy diet, still excercing at least4 times a week cardio and I have put on 10kg's at 22 weeks! This is my first pregnancy so i did not know what to expect but I have been a little bit worried about the weight and get lots of comments from people about how long I have left. I am 5'2" and only weighed 55kg pre preg, it is all in my belly! I am trying to rest assured that there does not seem to be much I can do about the weight, since I am doing all the right things to look after myself. It has been a blessing of a pregnancy, no morning sickness and feeling really good, just sometime tired. I wish you all luck. Stay happy and healthy:D

I'm in the same boat, up 9kgs at 18 weeks (will weigh in again on the 20th July;)I feel I'm retaining alot of fluid around the mid section too, and my outer thighs.............they are enlarged somewhat  I just hope it comes off easy, it's a little scary for some I guess because this will be the heaviest they've been in their entire lives (is for me anyway)

 to you all worrying about it...don't stress too much.
I have put on 20kg give or take with every single one of mine, sometimes I tried to keep it down, other times I just let it go. Each time I gained more or less the same. I think your body just does what it needs to a certain extent.
This time I will admit I was worried... at 24 weeks I had gained 16kg! I then went on to gain nothing at all until 34 weeks, I have put on another 3-4 since then but I have a lot of fluid atm. I have no idea how that works...I was freaking out thinking there would be waaay more than 20kg this time! but no, I've ended up the same.
Just relax & enjoy it - plenty of time to worry about it after ;)

Lots of us in the same boat! I have been worried about this too. Nice and fit and healthy leading up to being pg - four times a week at the gym, personal trainer etc, at my optimum weight, feeling good.
Then got pg, first trimester was horrid and so didnt put on any wt but by 20 weeks had put on 10kg, 28 weeks up to 14kg! My goal for the pg was to only put on around 14-16 kg as I am older and think it will be harder to shift the wt after.
I failed the first glucose test and so we all thought I had gest diab for a week until I got the results from the long glucose challenge test. Thankfully dont have GD! BUT I am now going back to counting calories and keeping a food diary. I am eating 2500 calories a day - my usual pre pg is 2250.
This strategy will hopefully see me grow a healthy baby without growing my butt and thighs too much more. I hope to stay around my current wt for most of the rest of the pg.
As I am a high risk pg I am seeing my OB very often and as my sis is a registered nurse (and is taking my BP every second day) and my friend is a nutritionist I am well supervised with this eating plan.
How are others managing their intake? I know keeping a food diary and counting cal has helped me feel in control again. :D
