weaning from the bottle and formula

hi everyone,

just wondering if anyone had some tips on weaning my 14 month old from his bottle and when i should i begin to wean off formula.

the situation.

My son weaned himself of breastfeeding at 3months and his dummy at 10 months. i am currently trying to encourage him to drink his milk from a straw or sippy cup during the day how ever he just throws it away.
--if i give that same milk to him in a bottle he is fine.
--i never give him juice in his bottle and will only give him water in his bottle at night if hes thirsty.
--he drinks poppers and uses sports top bottle and sippy cups for water during the day.

--he won't however take his milk in anything other than his bottle. he has 2-3 bottles a day depending on what he's eaten. usually before bed.
--sometimes he falls asleep with the bottle but usually drinks it rolls over and goes to sleep.

so i don't know if it is a comfort thing or habit and i don't know the best way to get him to drink milk from a straw or sippy cup so can throw the bottles away.

also how loong should he stay on formla for?

He doesnt need to have formula after 12 months.
If you have any other milk drink you can give him that instead if you wanted to, I mixed mine with the formula over a week or so gradulaaly giving more milk less formula, and then when we weaned off bottle completely it was less in there each time.

I had trouble getting DS to drink from a cup as well, we tried so many sippy cups becuase he would bite themt ops off them, so a screw top cup is best. I like the tommee tippee ones, sort of hour glass shaped, no handles and a soft straw.

i have that problem with the straw cups. bites the tops of them and spills it every where.

i have tomy tippy sipper cups with the soft teat and like i said water and juice fine . but when it is his milk. he throws it sticks his tongue out blows raspberries and looks at me like i have sinned. lol it cute but frustrating. i don't mind him having the formula before bed its just expensive and i know that its a boost to his body so not overly worried about that.

will look for the TT cups with straws that screw on to stop him takin the lids off. just need to solve the whole getting him to drink milk from it. short of throwing them out and not having anything else i dont know what to do. it seems a bit of a cruel way to wean him

Kira, my DS sounds almost exactly the same, except he won't drink ANYTHING from a sippy cup- water, juice, milk- nope.

He still has 3 bottles a day, each one before bed and I think the whole warm milk in bottle is a big comfort thing. Sometimes I put the bottle in bed with him, other times I feed him myself before bed.

We're still using formula, but will be gradually going to cow's milk over the next few months.

I'm pretty stuck on this one as well. Do we really NEED to get rid of the bottle? I'm sure there is a good reason why, but I don't know it!

I was told its something to do with their gums and teeth? Dont worry, Ry still needs a morning and noon bottle to get through the day or the apocolypse is on our doorstep
