The birth of Ella Jaye
Our beautiful little Ella Jaye was born the 11th March on her daddies birthday
Almost four months later i have finally got around to writing my birth story
Here it goes ....
I had an easy pregnancy up till 30 weeks when i found out i had gestational diabetes, then it got a bit rough. My blood pressure and blood sugars gave us a bit of a roller coaster ride for a couple of weeks with a pre eclampsia scare thrown in as well. I had to finish up work early and was sitting around at home very anxious for my baby to be born.
Finally my OB thought bubs was big enough to be born so i was booked in or an induction for the 11th of March at 38 weeks! We knew from our 20 week scan she was a girl and we were very excited to know we were finally going to be able to meet our little princess.
This would be my first time giving birth i was pretty scared but trusted in my doctor, i just wanted her out safe and sound.
Jason (my partner), Mum and I made our way to the hospital at six in the morning, We settled into the labour room waiting for my doctor to come at seven to induce me with gel. He came at about seven fifteen and he thought it would be a long labour with the possibility of needing three lots of gel and maybe some iv meds. He put the first lot of gel in and he said he would be back at lunch time to check on me.
I was on the monitor for a while, bubs was happy so I got to get off it. We read some magazines and watched a movie to pass the time. Jason slept for a while in the recliner!
I started getting some back pains early morning so was happy some thing was happening. I leaked some fluid around 11am, but didn?t think much of it. The pains started but were okay, mum rubbed my back for me.
My doctor came back at lunch time to check me and maybe break my waters, but id already done that myself and I was 3cm I was so happy.
He had the second lot of gel in hand but he didn?t need it.
After lunch real labour started, yikes nobody ever tells you what it is really like. I had to be on the monitor for a little while and I hated it, its horrible to labour in bed, strapped with that thing on, so that came off quickly. I went and laboured under the shower and in the birthing pool which was great. Mum and Jason took turns rubbing my back for me.
The pains got bad enough I wanted to try the gas so went back into the room and laboured leaning over a beanbag, I loved the gas, couldn?t get enough of it.
By five o clock I begged for an epidural so she checked me and it was too late I was already 8cm.
I went back under the shower with the portable gas, The next part is a haze I did tell Jason I hated him at one point, he says I looked at him with evil eyes.
I said I needed to push so I went back on the bed, they took my gas away!!!! I pushed for an hour but I couldn?t get her out, the midwife said she has black hair (we thought blonde for sure) and with the mirror I could see her there waiting to come out Jason and my mum were great and encouraged me all the way but id had enough by then so with the next contraction he used the vacuum and out my beautiful little girl came into my arms and into my world.
The most amazing moment of my life looking into those eyes, her dad cut the cord and my mum cried. After a cuddle and a breastfeed she was weighed she was 7 pounds six ounces a pretty good weight for a 38 weeker and 50cm long with a dark head of hair.
Her apgars scores were 9 at a minute and 10 at five minutes. Her aunty and other Nanna were able to come in and have some cuddles as well about 25 min after she was born.
The midwives and my Obstetrician were so great and calm throughout the whole thing. I had the best support in my partner and my Mum. I couldn?t have asked for a more beautiful birth surrounded by the people who love me.
We are so in love with this little girl, thanks for reading our birth story!
