Im moving home to Sydney. $$$ mean I may have to consider NOT living in my old haunt and moving to a completely new suburb. Problem is I havent lived anywhere but the old suburb and have zero clue on where is child-friendly/safe and so on.
So tell me the good and bad about your suburb!

Inner west (PM me for specifics ;)) Lots of children and families, close to public transport (bus and train), lots of community resources like activity buses that visit the local parks, nice local libraries, great food locations, convenient shopping etc
Can be expensive depending on the area and a house with a backyard is often hard to get but there are townhouses with courtyards and lots of parks close by to run them ragged. All areas have potential safety issues but relatively safe in most suburbs around here.
I second Michelle on the inner west. We love it. And there is so much to do and so many families living here.

yep, inner west! I have lived all around sydney and we have decided to strive to stay around here, its just soooo much nicer. we'd rather live in the worst house in a nicer area than the best house in any of the areas that we have lived before.
the bonus of being around here is that even if you are in a unit there is always something close by to do cheaply. we have a park which over looks the water just down the road, the baywalk is close by, public transport to pretty much anywhere..... a trip into the city is a lovely sunday afternoon thing - not a full day of stressful planning
I'm not quite in the inner west (although some people do consider my suburb inner west)... my suburb is more sort of north, but not 'north shore'.
I dont mind my suburb, there are a few parks but nothing overly fancy except for one nice park in the next suburb.
There is pretty good public transport - frequent buses into the City, Parramatta, Chatswood/Lane Cove, and I think Burwood.. Luckily most of the buses are those wheelchair accessible buses so you can get the pram on easily usually.. and Ferries into the City/Circular Quay/Darling Harbour, Parramatta etc.
Few shopping centres in the area, with a brand new one being built about 5 minute drive up the road.
Theres a mix of units and houses, townhouses in my area. We live in a unit.
Heaps of GP's around although I dont know if many of them Bulk Bill.
Theres 3 primary schools near us, but I dont think there are many preschools/child care centre (the CCC I enquired at recently is a massive rip off at $90 per day!)
I have lived at Seven Hills North, West Ryde and Greystanes and liked them all.
