losing child in shops....worst feeling ever ???

For me it was........

To top off a great week im having - NOT - i decided to venture to the shops today - not for toy sales, but for a night light for when i feed H. Started off early, dropped DD#1 at school. At shops by 830am......feed H in the car - kids happy, i might even be able to skoot into pumpkin patch i thought.
ANyway, in Bigw (bad moove...crazy mums with prams with boxes of toys.....)...DD#2 whom is 3 yrs was having a look at the barbies. I turned to check the price of something and she was gone....looked around a bit....nope, not there. WIth all the prams and mothers in the aisels, it was hard to get down there with my own pram. Did another quick search. Nothing. H starts to squirm...that newborn cry sends me crazy......i start getting all panicky. DD#3 is constantly saying 'mum....mum....mum'.....I found a sales guys and in a quivering tone said 'ive lost my little girl'.....he asked what she was wearing and went and said it over PA. I started to bawl.......i thought of the worst things in those 10 mins....dirty men at the toy sales, her running out to the carpark.....weird sick stuff. Two little old ladies ended up comforting me...then i heard 'there she is' - out popped DD from the change room...:rolleyes:.
'whats wrong mum?' she asked
'mummy lost you!'-i said in tears.
'oh, its ok mum, im here now' !!!! she replied.

We had gathered a crowd by now.....i thankd the 2 ladies and bolted otta there....
oh and when i did get to the car - noticed DD#3 was reading a diego book she musta picked up at the shops...so not only did i feel like the worst mother in the world...but im a thief too....

Might wait until they are at least 10 years old to do that again......:wall:

My eldest did that once to me when he was about 3. Took us around 10 minutes to find him sitting playing with the toys..

Oh dear. That was way too much stress for any mum! I'm glad she's okay now. Dont worry it happens to every parent. Good luck next time :)

I am crying just reading your story . . . stupid pg hormones!!! I would probably have done exactly what you did. Sometimes you just need a good bawl.

it is scary isn't it I lost jack in a best and less a few months back one minute he was standing beside me next minute gone, Iwas calling out starting to get hysterical this lady finally asked if I was ok told her I couldn't find him then I couldn't remember what hewas wearing found him after 5min felt like hrs, sitting playing with some other kids at a womans feet

Yep, it is the worst feeling ever!

We recently lost DD at a birthday party which was held at a reserve that backed directly on to a river. She is 4 so we sat her down when we got there and explained that she was NOT to go near the water without mummy, daddy or nanny.

I swear those 10 mins we couldn't find her were terrifying...I just kept thinking 'she' can't swim properly, she can't swim properly'. Thankfully she was found safe and sound but the thoughts that ran through my head that night had me awake for hours.

I'm already saying there's no way I'm taking three of them to the shops!! LOL.

My mum lost me when I was about 3 years old in the Myer City shop during the Christmas sales. She says it was the worst feeling of her life.

However she found me about 30 minutes later. I was happily chatting away to a Christmas Tree and none the wiser of the worry I'd put mum through.

God, i know how you feel. I lost DS1 in bigw today too! I was dashing around the toy aisles in a panic looking for him and he was with this lady who had found him trying to look for me. Jeezes! Scared the life outta me. Just so lucky that nice lady was there for him.

I'm with you mbear - Flynn did that to me recently. Not fun!
He is now TERRIFIED of getting lost (to the point where if a person with a supermarket trolley comes between us he bursts into tears. So my poor tyke may be scarred by the experience, but at least he doesn't stray now.........

oooh I know this feeling all too well! i was shopping with fellow BB member MaryDean and DD (14ish months i think) just completely disappeared. one second she was between my legs while i was choosing out a toy for her the next nowhere. i swear my heart stopped and the cold sweat panic began. by the time we found her (thanks MD!!!!) she was already out in the foyer of the shopping centre and pecariously close to the sliding doors taht lead straight to a road...and not one person thought that it was strange to see a baby wandering on her own...

(She had also had stolen something!).

Cassius - Makes you wonder when no one notices a child of that age, wandering around on their own? That would set off alarm bells for me & most mums I would think.

DS did that to me in Safeway - vanished in the space of 10 seconds. All I could think of was Jamie Bulger - I honestly thought I was going to throw up from the fear. Fortunately the shop was quiet and another customer found him and was holding him by the hand trying to find me (she'd remembered him and remembered me - his curly hair is pretty distinctive).

However, I was still alarmed at how trustingly he was holding her hand...gives me the horrors. And all he said was "you found me!" so cheerfully.:rolleyes:

It is the worst feeling ever. I have lost my nieces before. Omg, i felt so sick, i was pale and all i could do was cry. They were called over the PA and my god did they get an earful when i would see them.. it truly is a horrible feeling. I think it was worse feeling, what the hell am i going to tell my sister. So many things run through your head. Thankfully i have always found them and choose not to go to many busy places very often with them, even if they are 7 and 12.
