Food poisoning whilst pregnant

Hi.
Was wondering what risks may arise in regard to my baby, if i had food poisoning at 23 weeks.

Last night i cooked hamburgers, using patties i won on a meat tray at our local rsl club.

Whilst cooking them, i thought they smelt a little odd, however i thought it may just be the smell of the meat cause i had defrosted them in the microwave first.

When me and DP were eating he also commented that they had a funny taste. so we stopped eating them, half way through.

During the night, about 2 am, i woke up with bad gut cramps, and nausea.
I went to bathroom, but couldnt vomit, so went back to bed with a bucket.

DP felt okay, but he has iron guts.

I have since been worried as to whether it may be food poisoning from the bad meat, or whether maybe im getting a little late morning sickness (as i have had none whatso ever so far)

Is it unusual to have morning sickness at 23 weeks at 2am?

Don't know about getting morning sickness for the first time at 23 weeks but would not be worried about feeling sick unless it was to continue and then would mention it to your doc or OB.

When I was about 6-8 weeks pregnant something similar happened - had eaten out with friends and had just finished the meal when I thought uhhh ohh not feeling too hot here and went to loo and threw everything up - was sick again that night and tummy was dodgy the next day (but wasn't sick) and threw up several times on the following day. Then it just cleared up and went away. When it happened first I thought I must have had the shortest timeframe morning sickness ever ! But when I mentioned it to my OB he said that the baby just takes control of our bodies and that if our bodies suspect that there may be anything dodgy with something we've eaten it will just get rid of it - almost like it wants to be on the safe side :D.

Remember body filters out anything bad and only gives the baby whats good for it. So baby should be safe.

I'd say this is what has happened here but if you still feel rough and are getting sick then I'd get it checked out. Also think food poisioning effects both ends - sorry TMI i know. Just make sure if you are vomiting that you don't get dehydrated.

Im hoping it isnt food poisoning, as i have had no other nausea or anything all day today. It was just that one off time last night, bout 2 am that i felt so sick...

Wonder what it was? Maybe something didnt agree with me, but may not have been as severe as food poisoning.

Just hope im not getting morning sickness this late in the pregnancy...sorry , i know im winging lol

If you haven't felt anything since then i'd say the advice that my OB gave me applied to you .... body wasn't sure whether something was good or bad .... so it got rid of it! So I am sure you are okay.

Like you haven't suffered any morning sickness but ............ one of my friends who did suffer morning sickness for the first 3 months of her pregnancy told me the other day that hers came back ................ ahhhhhhhh ........... for the last two months! I had never heard of that happening before :lol:

Relax, what you experienced sounds nothing like food poisoning. You get violently ill with that.

good, yeah im sure it wasnt.
was just unusual that i got heaps nauseas after the rissoles i cooked that night. But lately ive been feeling ill after everything i eat...so could just be weird and wonderful symptoms of pregnancy

I had gastro at 20+ weeks. It was horrible, i thought i was going to induce labour. And yes it came out both ends. Lasted 24hrs thank goodness but my 2yo had it for a complete 10 days the whole time i was pregnant and passed it on to DH as well. As far as my knowledge, the microbes involved can't be passed onto the foetus. All is well inside the sac that protects them from the nasties we mothers get exposed to. You do need to keep an eye on your fluids and nutrition if you are throwing up heaps.
